Well, there are a few threads in here about American politics and the American electoral system, however as we are due for an election this year I thought I'd make a thread about it. To see whether Explosm is generally skewed to the left or the right.
This is a fairly open topic so feel free to bring in your opinions on the following:
- Howard's ability to lead (Is he a good PM?)
- "The alternative PM" (Would Rudd be a good PM)
- Life after the election for Howard (Will he step down for Costello?)
- Policies (Such as workchoices, immigration etc.)
You can also say you're political affiliation if you'd like, but you don't need to.

I think I'll also attach a poll to guage who can actually vote, just to compliment the discussion.

How is this a debate? Put some effort into your threads, don't just choose a very broad topic and say, "Discuss!"
Moved to G&S. If someone wants to make a proper debate about something to do with Australian politics, go ahead.

Dude, it aint sport, you don't go for a side.
Specifically though Aussie politics for the last 20 years has not been a matter of who would make the better PM, it's been a matter of who would make the worse PM, and people voting for the other guy.
Personally I'm gonna vote for Howard this election, at least we know how many promises he breaks and whether or not he's good for his word. Rudd seems like the kind of guy who'll be all sugary and sweet until he gets what he wants then he'll unleash Julia Gillard with a gimp-mask and whip. No thanks.

Democracy and majority rule doesn't work in prisons :facts:
Jk, though Howard seems to have lead australia into a war they didn't want, relaxed immigration policy that has only caused more segregation and hostility, and evidently ultimately racism amongst 'native' austrailians, and pushed his 'good guy' image almost to the brink. I don't know much about australian politics, but I do know that the only real way it seems the guy could win is if he was facing a communist. I honestly believe a lot of ozzies would vote for a nazi over him now.
PS that's not meant as an insult against ozzies, more of a comment on howard's disasterous immigration policy. The prison dig WAS, however, so throw a boomerang at me or some shit.

Howard is a jerk. Your absolutely right Quadros about howard.
Rudd is a champ, he seems well educated and well spoken, and got caught at a strip club lol :D. definately voting out howard.
To be honest Howard has done well for the economy, but he is so shifty, with the whole david Hicks thing, children overboard, Iraq and anti terrorism, not to mention spending some ridiculous figure just recently on APEC. If Howard wasn't such a jerk id vote for him.

If everybody in politics wasn't a jerk, then we'd have a pretty fucked up world.
Pfft, considering how many aussies seem to think NZ is a part of Aussie, I reckon we should get to vote in their elections. But no, you can't vote in ours. We manage to vote the same retard in enough thank you.

New Zealand was going to be a state of Australia, but they pulled out of the constitution and became their own nation.
Labor does need to win two elections (one extra to make up for Latham), but they look well on their way to doing that. Although you have to take into account that you don't vote for Howard per se, as you vote for the person in your electorate, so whilst Howard should step down (I live in Costello's electorate!!) the Labor guy in your suburb may be an even bigger jerk... Besides, chances are the newsreader will beat Howard in his own seat anyway.
The opposition party do not win elections. Governments lose them.

John Howard is no longer fit to run a country. Howard developed political complacency a long, long time ago. Once Mr.Rudd beats the crap out of him this coming election, Howard wont stay as leader of the opposition. Howard will gladly step down for Peter Costello. Maybe even Alexander Downer.
