Help with classical music

I've always had a fleeting fascination with classical music, and am finally interested in getting into some. The thing is, I really have no idea where to start. People have been creating classical music for hundreds of years. There's composers, orchestras, symphonies... Damn, it's overwhelming.

This thread is for suggesting specific albums. That means composer, conductor, orchestra, whatever. I don't want people saying "Beethoven is awesome" or "try some Mozart." That's no help at all.
