View Full Version : Editing mp3 Track Information
Some of my mp3 files don't have track information, such as the artist or song title.
When I attempt to edit this through the Summary Tab in Properties, I can't.
There is no space to enter Artist information and if I enter the song title, it says that 'A disk error occurred during a write operation'.
What do I do?

The easiest solution would be to open them in a player such as iTunes or Winamp and change the ID3 tags within that program. They will update for every media player once that is done.
Oh, that's the obvious solution, man.
Thanks.

I use a program called Tag & Rename. If you are going to edit MP3 tags often, you might want to look into downloading a separate program that can edit a batch of files at once.

That would probably work out. Winamp gets shit done but I can get loads of songs at a time that don't have tags and shit.
You would recommend 'Tag & Rename' then?

Have you tried clicking advanced in the summary section? Because it has artist names and all kinds of shit.

That's what I do. Works like a charm.

I would recommend it. I have batches of songs I rip from CD's and they do not come with ID3 tags usually, so I just use it to edit a bunch at once.

If I could just do that, I wouldn't have made the thread.

Thanks, I'll check it out :gj:

Tagscanner is the ultimate in file renaming and tag editing. I would recommend it. Especially if you download music alot and the file names are always mess up but the tags are perfect, because you can just click an option to rename all files to the same as the tags in different formats. Example: Artist - Song
What's good about it is that it can handle thousands of files at once rather quickly. Though, with using the winamp method you have more of a hands-on control.
So you can select your Guns N Roses folder. Select all the songs, and then edit the tags for every song as the exact same artist name. Helps loads when you have an MP3 player that reads off tags and creates a separate artist for really no reason.

Most importantly, are you using XP or Vista?
XP.
I'll have a look at Tagscanner then, Sarge. You've sold me.

If you put tracks into the Windows Media Player Library you can edit everything there, but it's easiest to put the Artist and Album in, then high light an album and right click, theres an option called "Gather Track Information" or something similar, that'll connect to the database and download all of the information. Also WMP has an "Advanced Tag Editor" but I've never used it.

If you're suggesting getting tag information off of the internet by clicking "Auto-Tag" or something similar, I wouldn't trust that if you're going for perfection. Hell the other day I tried that on the new Motley Crue single and got Beck - Paper Tiger. If you want something done do it yourself.
Also, Tagscanner should be free, if I remember correctly. Which is strange because it's such an excellent program.
