Okay, now maybe this might be an unsolvable problem and even possibly, that none of you can help me.

Anytime I put a disc in my Wii it makes the absolute most EAR-SHATTERING grinding of noises. Anytime I play something, I have to throw a pillow and/or blanket on it to muffle the noise, which barely does much.

I really don't know what's wrong with it. I never dropped it down any stairs or anything. It just keeps making this loud fanning/grinding noise whenever a disc is inside.

Any advice or help?

Maybe some teething problems... do the discs take damage? I'm sure you can change it back were you've bought it.

Trade it out, it should only make noise when loading the C.D. after it is loaded the noise stops. Also the noise should not be ear shattering, it should sound more like loading a C.D. into your computer.

Get an exorcist!
But really just send it back or trade it in if there are any other ones in stock.

No, the disks stay fine.

Sounds like a serious P.O.S., I would take it back to the retailer or something. I don't know if Nintendo does some sort of return for broken systems, though. If you don't have a warranty of any kind and some technology skills you could always crack it open and see what the error is, but I seriously wouldn't recommend that unless you know what you're doing. Maybe something is grinding on something else and wasn't assembled correctly?

It used to be just fine. It just started making this crazy grinding noise about a month ago. Other than that, it's tip-top.

It sounds like there is something broken in the drive itself. It is nothing you can fix. You should either return it or contact Nintendo and see if they will replace or repair it.

If it has always done that and you still have warranty info, then Nintendo should fix it for free.
If the warranty is up, I'm not sure if it'd be free but I pretty sure they'd fix it.

It could just be that the gears are unaligned, If you feel like destroying the warranty you can open it up and realign the cd track, or just have it repaired.

I remember reading about this somewhere, it's a problem with some of the Wii's. I can't remember what causes it though.

Ring Nintendo and they should send you a new Wii.

My warranty ran out, btw. So, I'm not sure if I'd get a new Wii by contacting Nintendo. :frown:

I would still contact them. They may repair it for cheaply.

How far out of warranty is your system? Nintendo is pretty good about replacements, so I would imagine that if you were just out of the warranty period, they would replace it.

My advice:

Contact a wii modder. Not to get it chipped or anything, they may be able to open it up, take out any dust that needs cleaning, fix the problem.
