Yeah. It sucks.

I'll either be on the start screen to play a game and I'll hit "start" and it'll freeze on the black screen, or it will freeze when I get into the game menu and try to actually start the game.

When I say freeze I mean it won't let me do anything. I can't turn it off, I can't reset and I can't eject the disc. I have to unplug it just to get it to stop.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the Wii System Update, since it has never done this before I updated it, which I only did last night.

Is there any way to reset it? Could be something else? I really have no idea where to start on this.

EDIT: The power light keeps changing colour when I turn it off. It used to always be red, but now it'll glow orange and sometimes the blue light around the disc entry with fade on and off. =\

Orange indicates you've got an internet connection active, although it's not hugely reliable, unplugging my router didn't stop it. Blue light fading on and off indicates a message, in the bottom right of the home screen.

As for the actual freezing, does it feel hot? It sounds like it might be overheating.

It felt the same temperature as it has always been but I tried it again just in case, it froze instantly and was barely warm.

So it could be because the cooling fan has STOPPED SPINNING.

I think it's stuck on something.

This is retarded.

Shine a light in and see if you can get whatever it's stuck on out (while it's unplugged, obviously.)

Yeah I fixed the fan but it's still freezing. :argh:

If there's no software update available and it's in warranty I would just call Nintendo tomorrow and see what they say.

It could have been from an uncomplete software update (which you would have no control over). It could also be because the CPU is overheating. Either way the best thing to do would be to contact Nintendo. They should be able to tell you how to either clear out the newly installed update or how to send it in for repair.
