Intel has managed to make a fully functional motherboard at about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of a business card. Not only is it that small, but it is not bad when it comes to specs, either. Here is a direct quote from the article

The Moorestown motherboard houses the processor, chipset (including graphics), and memory, along with silicon for 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS, he said. "This is the heart of the new machine.

If so much can be packaged so small, soon we will have whole computers that take up no more than a DVD case. This is pretty amazing to me, and the things you can do with such a small motherboard are endless.

It has pretty amazing potential for mobile devices, but I can't imagine it would be compatible with any standard...anything really.
Fake edit: yeah, it does have integrated graphics, making it a lot more useful.

Integrated graphics, has that been done before? I don't think I've heard of that before.

It's extremely common. iMacs all have it, as do a lot of cheap, non gaming computers and laptops. Intel's are called GMA-something, but it's not rare by any stretch.

Oh? I guess I just don't get out much, heh. I need to keep up with the times.

I've always thought of that scenario with anything small. Like those Razer phones, and that really really small nintendo handheld. Kind of funny, really.

I can already picture cellphones with this sorta cards. Next thing we know, we'll have notebooks the size of a pencilcase and as expensive as cheap car.
I dont really trust such small things. I rather have 'em big and resistant to strokes, falls, knee-bumps and stuff. The resistance of a tecnology is proportional to its size. The bigger, the more resistant. I think thats the main problem they'll have.

Size has very little to do with it. If I kick someone's laptop it's going to be fucked beyond repair, whereas a mobile phone will come out just fine.

They have also made a fucking tiny processor that is in use in the Macbook air, I was more excited when I heard about the processor than I was about the laptop.

Are you serious? Thats damn odd that you havent. Anyway, I dont see this being used for gaming for heavy hardware usage, as additional, more power gpus and ram are needed, and as far as I know they dont make them this small.

I must say though, this could be a HUGE step for mobile phones, I wouldnt be surprised if Intel stuck there noses into to mobiles. They are so far up microsofts but I wont be suprised if they eventually try compete with apple or any other brand for that matter.

Thats a pretty farfetched predicition though.

Given that Google's Android is so far severely lacking in devices that run it, an Intel/Google partnership on this could be very interesting.

Oh damn this is sweet!

I just wonder what the battery life would be for portable devices using these.
I know they will use less power because of the smaller size, but that size decrease might be balanced out by the power increase too, or maybe even beaten.
Can't be too sure though, the sub-65nm is a whole different ball game.
