In the last 2 hours I've seriously fucked up my computer. I had an arguement on the phone with PCWorld and they agreed to sending me a Recovery-Disc in 7 working days. To which I said "Nothing in the world can't be fixed with a little Piracy". So I downloaded the correct boot CD (which was legal actually), and fixed Vista, much swearing later I have nothing on the computer at all.
However one thing bugs me, when I turn my PC on it boots up so far then offers me a choice of, what I assume are different OS
[Windows Vista]
[Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (Recovered)]
Only the one with the really long title works, so, how can I make my computer boot that one straight away? I think the other one is the Recovery Part or something, so I don't want it wiping out, just get it to boot the other one straight away?

Type msconfig into Vista's start menu search box and hit enter.
If you have UAC on it will bug you now.
When it opens, click the boot tab and select the OS (the long named one) you want to be default. Click 'Set as default' and change the timeout to 1 or 2 seconds.

You can use a program out there called EasyBCD. It is allows for a dual boot of two operating systems (usually Vista and XP but it will work in your case). You can choose which one to boot on startup and how long it will let you choose before it just automatically boots.

You can, but the steps in my post do the exact same thing without needing to download additional software.

I was just offering another option.

Yeah, I guess that would be an alternative if the msconfig way doesn't work or something. EasyBCD has a nicer gui and more options, but for what Hick needs to do I think msconfig will be fine.

I've had an issue with booting up like that. I had a partition for XP, and a version of Vista before it was released. I took Vista off of there, and I still got the "choose your OS" selection when I booted up.
I forgot what I did exactly, because this was a long time ago. But I think it was similar to what opn4bzns said. Fixed my issue with ease. They should really make things like this easier to do.
