My question is different from that posed in the below topic, so I thought I'd make my own thread.
I only got Xbox Live this weekend, and would like to start playing online. I'm a bit of an achievement whore, however, and don't want to have to start a whole new account. Not to mention I went to way too much work getting all that armor on Halo 3 to start all over. Is it possible to take a pre-existing account and upgrade it to a Live account, or perhaps to transfer the info?

So you're account doesn't have live? You should just be able to go to the Marketplace and find a link that says "Redeem Code". (I believe if you want, you can go to xbox.com and sign on in there and pick "Redeem Code" as well.) You should be able to keep your offline name, so much as it isn't already taken by an online player. In which case, you'll need to change it.
If you want to 'transfer', I don't think that is possible. As your save data (Halo 3 armor that you got on your offline or past account) is attached to your old gamertag.
You would have to make your account with the achievements your online GamerTag. To do this, just set it up as a silver, then upgrade to gold. If your name is taken, its relatively cheap (maybe free the first time) to get it switched.

Yes, thanks. I remember there is an "Upgrade to Gold" option somewhere. But I believe if you enter the Xbox Live code into "Redeem Code" it'll do it as well.
I sure hope it's free the first time. That would suck for so many people. I know you can change it at a later date for only 10 dollars. (800 MS Points.)
