View Full Version : Psychedelic Rock
I've always enjoyed Psychedelic music, but have been confined to people like Jimi Hendrix and Cream. I'm trying to branch out to other artists of the same genre, but can't really find much. I'm not looking for the mellow psychedelic rock which some bands play, but the same kinda stuff Cream and Hendrix play. Does anyone have any suggestions?

That I've noticed there isn't anything quite similar, that's also good, out there at the moment. The closest would be bands like Klaxons (kind of electro-psycho-rock) and Hot Chip. I love the Klaxons. If you don't already know there stuff I suggest checking them out.
I would really categorize Klaxons as Techno-Indie, not so much psychedelic, but I still like some of their music.
And Hot Chip is really electropop, and I'm not too fond of that.

I recommend The Brian Jonestonwn massacre (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=118802742) also listen to Syd Barett and early Pink Floyd.

The only full Barrett floyd album is Piper at the Gates of Dawn, also check out the two solo albums he put out. If you are after more 60-70s psychedelia I'd suggest:
Moby Grape
Jefferson Airplane (not starship)
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Iron Butterfly
Hawkwind (Lemmy from Motorhead's first band, also before he blew his voice out)
Country Joe and The Fish
Easybeats (Friday on my Mind)
Jethro Tull
Neu!
Can
Tangerine Dream
The Byrds
King Crimson
Procol Harum
Moody Blues

Try the Grateful Dead, whose Anthem of the Sun and Aoxomoxoa are their most Psychedelic style albums with "That's It For The Other One," "Saint Stephen," and "China Cat Sunflower" being the most psychedelic of the songs on those albums.

Most psych stuff I listen to is the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd.
Atom Heart Mother and Piper at the Gates of Dawn are the best Pink Floyd psych albums in my opinion.
And as for The Grateful dead..There way to trippy.

Ooh, a nice thread.
Listen to Space-Rock. Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Eloy and Ozric Tentacles. Ozric is amongst the trippiest bands I've ever known.

And for the Floyd, Syd Barrett is overrated. Their best psych/spacerock was after, in their experimental years. Recomend you to buy the DVD, Live at Pompeii, or watch it's parts on youtube.

Okey, that's Avant-Garde, but it's psych alright. From their second LP.

Their pure Space Rock song. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.

A favorite, instrumental with a scream.

Okey, this one is pretty standard, but this is one of Syd's best.

Another one, this one is very rare though.
And for Hawkwind.
