Basically, this is the question. I'm pretty set on the 80gb, most will be mp3's but I know I will be putting movies/shows on it as I'm often sitting at work... Not working.

The Zune doesn't really impress me aside from the larger screen and WiFi synchronizer. Aside from that, I've heard disheartening things for both sides. Software sucks, things break, interface issues. I'm sure I'll get one of those FM transmajiggers for the car if possible.

Mostly just looking for some feedback from people that have either of these. Wasn't going to bother making this thread, until after I read the other topics. As soon as it turned into an ipod/zune cockfest, it was either broken up pretty quickly, or focused on other mp3 players.

I would get a Creative Zen. I just tend to not like Microsoft products that much, and iPods, while good, are overpriced because of the brand name. But if I had to choose one of those two, I'd go with the iPod.

I have only heard great things about the zune from unbiased (see: not apple fanboys) and if I were upgrading my mp3 player that would be one of the first places I looked. On the other hand creative makes some sexy products however the I haven't heard much about the ones with the larger LCD displays.

Like I stated in the other thread, I love my Creative ZEN. Although I'm not sure if they make my model anymore (Vision: M) I'm sure you can find it on eBay, if they don't decide to sell it anymore on the Creative website.

But I've also said that if my ZEN was to ever die, I wouldn't think twice about getting a Zune. I've heard the same good and bad things, but in general I think those bad things can get taken care of quickly. I have friends with both iPods and Zunes, and one seems just as satisified as the other. So I'd say go for it.

Creative Zen's are nice. I have 20GB Sleek Photo and so far, my only problem is a cracked screen due to sloppy handling. If you do get one, use Windows Media player to sync. It's so much easier. The only problem with a non iPod MP3 player is that due to the iPods mainstream awareness, many products are made solely for that. Auxiliary cords and what not are needed if you want to use docking stations and such.

my zune was good enough to be stolen.

I don't have much personal experience with the Zune because they don't sell them in Australia, but from what I've heard (I have a friend who bought one in the states), if you use iTunes get the iPod, if you use wmp or another player, probably get the Zune unless you don't mind switching to iTunes.

I have a Creative Zen. I've heard people bad mouthing it because of 'difficult to use software' which I've never understood because I just Copy+Paste things using Windows Explorer anyway. I love it, but if only I brought a case to protect the screen. the material is very soft and scratches easily. I've had my Zen for a little under 2 years now, in the same amount of time previous to that I'd had 4 iPod replacements.

Will Creative ever make an 80gb competitor? I don't want to leave Creative for something else. :frown:

I was looking at a Zune, but then I noticed that the music software had security stuff on it. Hell no, aint dealing with that shit.

I went with a 16GB iPod Touch, best media player Ive had, ever.

What are you talking about? You can use regular mp3's with the zune.

This forum is the only place I've ever heard anything good about the Zune. All I can say from personal experience is that it's damn ugly. This may be short-sighted, but if I'm going to drop a few hundred bucks, I better be getting something nice and shiny.

That's completely subjective though. I'd probably buy an iPod over one, even if they sold Zunes here, but I still think the Zune looks a lot better than the Classic.

I don't buy music, and apparently the Zune has DRM, from what Ive heard. Not dealing with that shit, no sir.

Obviously you don't understand DRM, DRM is put onto songs independent of the device, if you buy songs without DRM from a legal source IE Amazon or ripped from CD's you already own then you wont have DRM and they will run on your Zune.

Ah. I was under the impression that DRM was a software put onto devices that only let the device play media that has the special "code" that complies with the software.

I was about to get a Zune. Thanks for the information btw

Zune got a bad deal with the music industry. 3 play squirts?

Sounds gross.

Actually its 3 plays or 3 days or something like that. Either way, its pure assfuckery.

That's only for songs that people send to you no?

I'm thinking of picking up the new creative zen 8gb model. I have the creative zen V plus right now but the volume increase button is jacked on it and it's only 4 gbs.

The new once has all the same features as the V plus, a way bigger screen and an sd card slot which will make it so I don't have to buy another for awhile do to not havign enough memory.

Ya, its for sharing songs via an AD-HOC (non wifi, device to device) network. Kind of a gimmick.

Anyway, the Creative Zens look quite good.

I've never owned a Zen, but I've played around with one. It has a really nice interface, really user friendly. It just feels good to use. Yeah, 8 gigs should be more than enough if you buy your music. If you pirate, get like a 30 gig.

I just got a nano, last week I think. Really liking that. No moving parts, so the battery life is insane. The reality is whatever you pick up, you'll be happy with.

The fact that a device has no moving parts (flash memory) doesn't necessarily mean that the battery life is good. That depends on the OS's power demands, the amount of data stored and needing to be accesed, the efficiency of the screen, the brightness, and in rare cases, the GPU.

But it is true that flash memory is much much more efficient than HDD's. The only thing is that flash only goes up to about 256GB's, and that raw chip will cost about 3,400 dollars.

HDD's on the other hand, cost about 300 bucks for a TB.
