Once again, very few suggestions. There are some really good books up for next month though.

I've gone over all the suggestions and narrowed it down to these books based on length, potential for discussion, and the overall interest shown by people in the suggestions thread. I also looked at how they did in last month's poll (if they were in it).

Voting: Please only vote for a maximum of 2 books this month. You're not obligated to vote for 2 books, it's just the maximum.

If your book didn't get in the poll, don't complain to me. Read it on your own and post an individual thread about it. Just because you want to read it doesn't necessarily make it suitable for the book club, and just because it wasn't chosen doesn't mean you can't read it.

Here are the links to the posts suggesting each book (includes genre, length, synopsis, and review):

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess (http://forums.explosm.net/showpost.php?p=523324&postcount=3)

Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson (http://forums.explosm.net/showpost.php?p=527031&postcount=4)

Samedi the Deafness by Jesse Ball (http://forums.explosm.net/showpost.php?p=527686&postcount=5)

Life of Pi by Yann Martel (http://forums.explosm.net/showpost.php?p=537357&postcount=6)

Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk (http://forums.explosm.net/showpost.php?p=546484&postcount=10)

A Clockwork Orange and Snuff. Clockwork because it's fucking awesome and Snuff because it's new and it'll be easy to get, so we'll hopefully get more people participating. And cause I love Chuck Palahniuk.

I voted for A Clockwork Orange and Life of Pi.

I've always wanted to read A Clockwork Orange, but I heard it was kind of hard to follow. Anyways, this would give me motivation enough to finally go out and get it.

Life of Pi because I read it recently and it's fresh in my mind for discussion. It's definitely a must-read.

I voted Snuff because that's really the only book I'm interested in reading. I'd consider Clockwork Orange, but I don't like reading books that I've already seen the movie of, at least as long as I have other options for new stories available. Seeing the original story in book form is cool and all, but I can read a different book and get an entirely new story :0

Won't Snuff being a new book be harder to get a copy of, especially for people who borrow books from librarys and such?

And I voted A Clockwork Orange cause hopefully i'll be able to read past the first chapter this time, with motivtion. And Snuff becasue Chuck is just so awesome.

I voted for Clock Orange, because I jsut want to read it again. Abbey and Matt, you guys definitely need to check it out. The only difficult part to follow, at first, is the Nadsat the main characters speak. Check out basic Russian for a lot of the insight on that and you're golden. Matt, when you read it, you pick up a whole new feeling, apart from the movie. Alex is only 15 in the book, which makes it ever-so-slightly more fucked up.

Plus the ending is tee-totally different, and really leaves you wide-eyed.

Yeah abbey, it's only hard to follow for the first few pages. I had to read the first few paragraphs like 8 times before I could decide if the book was English or not. But after the first chapter or two the language became one of my favorite parts of the book.

And Alcoholic Lollipop, don't be giving it away. :tsktsk: But you're right, Stanley Kubrick really made it his own when he made the movie, and the whole atmosphere oh the book is way different. Definitely worth the read if you've already seen the movie.

My friend has been preaching to me to see A clockwork Orange since he loves Stanley Kubrick but I always try to read the book before seeing the movie so here's my excuse. My second choice is Life of Pi because a handful of you chose that too. That and I love books surrounding isolation.

huh, someone voted for the book I wanted.

What the hell, I don't expect my book to win, so I'm completely fine with reading Snuff. I expect to get it for my birthday :p
