Idioteque

Alright, so I am trying to get start, uh, remixing music, but I do not have necessary software to do so.
Is there any half-decent, free, and somewhat user friendly software I can use to edit and remix music? (adding effects, choppin beats, etc)
Any advice on how to get started remixing is appreciated as well.

Well I don't understand the whole remixing stuff but I used Audacity to edit certain sound clips. It's pretty nifty for free software.
The link is in the big list of Applications.

Audacity is pretty sweet, but I'd imagine that to get anything half decent you would need to pay.

I use Audacity as well for my music. You can use it to mix and layer. If you want to add beats and stuff, you're better off just googling drum tracks, because any program that has it built in, you'll have to pay for.
I remember having loads of fun on this until the trial ran out, Traktor (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9206/picture1qb8.png), download the free demo.
I've never tried it but UltraMixer (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Other-AUDIO-Tools/UltraMixer-Professional-Edition.shtml) looks pretty neat.
Let me know if these work.
