Ya the whole series. The ending was unexpectadly perfect, I mostly felt sorry for Gluttony =(
It's an anime. Just thought I'd say, before you found out and got dissapointed; I'll probably still be watching cartoons when I'm 50. So there, I came out.

Remember when I made that thread telling everyone to go watch Elfen Lied and the first page was full of "I watched the first episode and it wasn't very good but I'll watch the rest", then the second page was nothing but "THAT WUS AWSUM"? I'm doing it again.

So what's it about? Alchemy is a real Science that's used to reconstruct elements into different elements. Like breaking down a Lego house to make a Lego car. In FullMetal Alchemist, alchemy is like a super power that can break down anything to produce something else. Like smelting down a gun to make a sword.
The first episode shows two brothers who are alchemic geniouses. Just as their future starts looking bright though, their mother dies and they're left alone to raise themselves. Unable to accept this, the brothers devise a plan to use alchemy to break down their mother's dead body and produce a living one. Of course, that's impossible, and they end up with changing their mother's corpse into a hideous pulsating sack of mutant. They're traumatised and the story goes on from there. It's actually a pretty good starting point.

The problem, I thought, was: For the first 10 episodes, I couldn't work out wether this was aimed at children or adults. That first episode was pretty freaky, but then the next few- I was waiting for the violence. I was about to stop watching when it suddenly got really weird again out of nowhere. The whole series goes on like that:
There's a fuckin cool episode
Then a bunch of character development
Another awesome episode
Some embarrassingly stereotype anime
Freakishly crazy episode
It's just full of hits and misses. It's really the type of series you've got to stick with until the end, because there are some awesome plot twists. It turns out nothing's what it looks like on the surface and nearly everybody dies. Once you get passed about episode 20, there's alot of blood and explosions. The story runs so deep that it's a shame they don't show anything in the first few episodes.

When I finished watching the last episode, I thought the characters gave the biggest surprises. Every one of them has their own weakness and can change their personality just instantly, going from some boring side-character to the most insane monstrosity of a person in the series.

So even though it was awesome (Especially the ending. The episodes just got better and better), I really wish they would've got there faster. 51 episodes in all: That's alot. I think they could've cut some early ones out all together. So if you're about to start watching this (It's the start of school and college now, sorry about that) just keep in mind that it gets hella freakier. If you've allready seen it, what was the best part? The best part was at the end when he fought Envy and if you're not going to watch it atall, then why read my thread? Come on man, that's pretty sad.

+The dubbed version has a really really good voice cast, so I insist completely that you don't bother with subtitles.

++I'm the slowest person on the internet, so don't tell me it's stupid-old.

Fine I wont tell you its stupid old.

But yeah really good show one of the only anime's that I like the english dub's of. If you liked the series you should watch the FMA movie it's about what happens after the series with Ed and Al.

FMA is a great anime. Have you seen the movie?

A friend of mine told me about it, and once I watched the first few episodes, I was hooked. I spent the last week doing pretty much nothing but watching FMA, I loved it.

It's one of my favorite animes.

Yeah the beginning episodes are a bit slow. But the characters are awesome and it's pretty violent. They kill off the right characters too.

Have you seen the movie yet?

Elfen Lied was the first anime I watched, shortly followed by FMA and Lain.

Have you seen the movie?

I really did enjoy this series. I'd have to say the one thing that most grated on my nerves was that every time someone called Edward short he would freak out (joke got old quick.)

One thing to consider when people mention the lameness of the first episode is that the show seems to be an allegory/metaphor for growing up. At first it's childish and naive, but by the time the show gets to the end it is tackling much more adult issues and has you hooked.

And to keep the trend going, have you seen the movie?

Haha, I didn't notice that trend until I looked over it again.

I've tried and tried again to like FMA but I just couldn't. The characters are unbelievabley annoying, and the every episode I've seen was boring as anything.

JESUS CHRIST ON A TOAST I was about to say exactly the same thing!
I've a lot of friends who tell me it's awesome, but I couldn't bring myself to watch more than two.
That fucking robot says the word for "brother" all the fucking time, it's horrible.
There are some good things about it, but I can't get past how annoying they are.

I did tell you it starts off annoying, but you just about missed the part with the vommiting bird guy.

Obviously you werent paying attention when you watched it because the "robot" actually is his brother. Because there was an accident and he had to put his brothers soul into that suit of armor.

FMA remains one of my favorite animes of all time. Apparently a lot of FMA manga fans blammed it, though, because the anime strayed extremely far from the manga. But whatever, it's still an awesome anime, in my opinion :).

The movie was the biggest disappointment ever, to me. I haven't watched it in a year or so, but I remember being really let down by it. It wasn't that funny like many of the anime episodes, the story could've been better, and the ending was only okay. For the sake of spoilers, the "giant mutated white guy with lots of tentacles" versus the "small homunculus boy with black hair" fight was the only really good part of the movie.

Like most of the animes I've watched I got my start on FMA thru CN, the awesomeness and gore in the first episode got me hooked. After finally seeing the rest of the series I wanted something more, then I found out FMA:COS was coming out to theaters and to DVD, apparently it was way old in japan but new to me :) I didn't catch it in theaters but I bought the DVD first chance I got. Its a perfect ending to the series with some of the bests fights. Wraith Vs Gluttony = made of win.

Sigh.
I have a brother, but I don't say the word "brother" in every sentence when I'm talking to him.
I wasn't annoyed because I thought some random robot kept calling him brother.

It's a Japanese thing, they usually call their siblings 'Brother' or 'Sister' rather then their names.

Yeah I notice that in all the anime's I watch.

If this comes so highly recommended, I might have to start watching it once i'm caught up on DeathNote and Claymore. Roar!

I have to say i am a closet fangirl.

I am in the middle of watching a few animes: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya, Ouran High School Host Club, and Moon Phase. They are all rather cutesy though.

And I just finished watching Gunslinger girl, which was awesome, if not very short.

Someone recommended Gunslinger Girl to me, but now I'm in College and I'm surrounded by big anime nerds who watch Naruto and Bleach =[
This Malaysian guy was reading a magazine yesterday and said "AMERICANS CAN'T DRAW!". I nearly walked over smashed his knees in. I'm probably not watching any more anime.

Naruto and Bleach are two of the worst animes I have evr had the misfortune of stumbling upon. I watched about fifteen minutes and went to do something else. People who watch just watch it for the sake of watching anime.

And Smelly, I am telling you now to go watch Gunslinger Girl. It's really good, albeit short.

I saw the anime first time about 3 or 4 years ago, when it came on TV. I started watching it because of curiosity. There aren't so much anime series coming in Finland, so this was special :3. I've been it's fan ever since. It's now my favorite manga and anime.

But I still disagree, I've never liked any dubbed shows. The original japanese voiceacting makes it the best. Besides, you can't even get the DVD episodes dubbed in here. In Finland we use subtitles and dubbing is only used in kids animations like Pokemon. FMA is for teenagers and adults, even some of the DVDs are K-18.

I must say, that I love it. And I'm an Alphonse-fangirl, which is rare, because some people like Ed more(but that's okay). You'll get it, if you've read the 16th manga.
I'm waiting for the next version of anime to be released(15 more days >w<). You've probably heard of Brotherhood. The 1. opening is awesome >:3.

Al is no robot(facepalm)!! Sorry, but I admit, that FMA is a that kind of a serie which you have to watch for several times to get it all. It's long, I know. But it is explained in the very first episodes!! (cries) or I don't know, the dubbed version may be different than subtitled.
But you can see that Al's not robot, In the first episode you see, that he's empty. So why? Is it so hard to realize that Al is Ed's brother, when he calls Ed "niisan"?(Big brother in japanese)
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f100/DreamLegend/49664td75tz3ptj.gif
And yes, it is a japanese thing. Although Al calls Ed "niisan" only in anime. Ed calls Al "Al" all the time, in both, anime and manga.

I didn't watch a whole lot of the series, but I did like the dude who had the tattoos all over his arms and dissassembles alchemy, that and his whole story is pretty damn wild. And the Burning alchemist who turns people into bombs.

I couldn't get past the first episode. The manga (http://www.onemanga.com/Full_Metal_Alchemist/) is much better.

I got into this for a lil bit when it was on TV, and really liked it. But then I'd miss episodes and I got really confused
