View Full Version : Death of an Innocent Infant?

Yesterday my World Regions teacher, Underwood, got a call from his wife. The message said to call him back immediately. Being the fun guy he is, he joked around a bit before finally taking out his cell phone, walking out of the room, and calling her. A few minutes later he comes running back in with a white face, grabs his keys, and runs back out. At that point, I think he only knew something was wrong with Connor.
He was less than a year old. He died extraordinarily suddenly at his daycare. Underwood has requested that no one try to contact his family in any way (and if anyone dared try, they deserve to be shot, in my opinion).
Although I've no relationship with the family or child, I couldn't even begin to imagine how hard it must be on Connor's father. In light of this event, I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this?

SIDS, maybe? I feel really bad for him.
I have no experience in child fatalities, but I did almost kill myself a few times when I was a toddler.
ACCIDENTALLY. :indiff:

Haha, if it weren't for my father and his friends, I would've been dead several times older.
I've pulled dressers, televisions, and hot skillets down on myself. Luckily they were caught each time.
Although I don't imagine the guy who caught the skillet was too pleased.

As much as I personally feel terrible (day ruiner), Explosm is not the right place for sympathy. I believe we know why. But maybe children are different.

Explosmateers are just as capable of showing a little sympathy as anyone else.

No, the Spame forum isn't any place for a thread like this.
That is horrible, though.

I wasn't even aware the Spame forum still existed.

That's horrible. In related news there was a 2-week old kid near where I live that was mauled to death by the family's dog. That one was really tragic because it was avoidable.

Did you make a dead baby joke?
EDIT because that'd be terrible.

I have a feeling that dog didn't live very long afterwards.

True. That's what always gets me about the death of people that haven't blossomed yet. Who's to say they wouldn't be the next Ghandi, or Pope?
And if you think you'd like to reply saying you don't like Ghandi or the Pope, then keep it to yourself. I was only using examples.

Ahh, I had an experience way too similar to this.
I was at work when my dad got a call (I work for my parents) saying that there were ambulances and firetrucks outside of the house of one of the kids who works for them. They are also really close family friends.
My dad and I rushed over there to see what was up. What happened was that my friend was backing out of his driveway when his 13 month old niece climbed under the tire when he stopped to get something from his brother. I got there about 15 minutes after this happened, and it was the most horrific scene imaginable, I wouldn't know how to describe it.
I don't know which was harder: being at the scene, the calling hours, or the funeral when my friend, his brothers, and their mom spoke. I couldn't sleep for a few nights.
This all happened about a month ago, by the way.

Like I said, I couldn't even begin to imagine what it must be like. Just to think of how it made you feel, and it wasn't even your son, let alone your family. Something like that could destroy a person's life easily.

Seriously whats the big deal? Just make another one. It's not like he was really contributing to society in any way at that point.
The kid would've probably been the next Hitler anyway.

Eh, babies die all the time. Where do you think all the jokes come from?
I hate calling it "sudden infant death syndrome". That just means the kid died and they have no clue why.
What is really bad is that we'll never know what was capable of that life.
Coulda cured cancer or some shit like that. It's too bad. I mean, I want to make a joke, but Jesus, that's just cruel.

My neighbors had something almost exactly like this happen to them. They left their son on the crib, and he and a slight fever. The mom goes to check if he's ok half an our later, and he'd turned around and vomited, then choked on his own vomit to death. Turns out what he had was a form of pneumonia that has almost no symptoms.
It was the first time I actually saw someone in shock. They didn't cry for days, they just sat around like zombies. Then about a week later we heard this wail, man. It was like a scream of physical pain.
It's fucking horrible when children die.

That's so depressing. I hate hearing stories about children dying. Adults dying on the other hand...
I'm just kidding. It's just more depressing to hear that it's an infant who's died because they're so innocent. They haven't even had eonugh time to screw up too badly.

You'd think we would all feel bad but most of us don't.
Oh noes, whatever shall we do? I know, let's post about it on explosm. Don't know the guy, don't care, not too many others do either. Pop out another screamer in nine months if it's a big deal.

Or he may have been the next Hitler or Mao? Who the fuck knows, and what does it matter?
"What if's" are irrelevant and useless at times like these.
I feel sorry for the parents, I can't imagine losing something that dear to you. It must suck a lot.
Oh and I've almost killed myself a couple of times as well.
4 times, 5 if you include sicknesses.

Aren't the day care centre people responsible for it? They must have been more careful with the child.

You are a horrible person and should die for saying such terrible things. You can't know if it would be a second Hitler, he could have become a great person. Don't you have any sympathy for the parents

My question is where do you find guilty infants? Iraq?
The ones who steal from the cookie jar are the guilty ones.

I was thinking the exact same thing, if you can't watch your kid for the first year at least then maybe you shouldn't have him in the first place.

I am pretty much an uncaring stone of a man, but so a baby died. It happens a lot. Basically it is just one less person taking up the world's resources.

I'm not asking you to feel sorry for anyone. But I think many of your opinions would change if you all had children yourselves.

I dunno how to quote on this forum, but whoever it is that said "meh babies die all the time where do you think all the jokes come from" i aren't gonna say i don't laugh at dead baby jokes, however, there is certainly a time and place for the mentioning of dead baby jokes, and this is not it!

My opinion would not change if I had children. I am not fond of children and I see them as anyone else, another strain on the world's resources.
Also the reason I will never have kids.
There was this one time when I was three, this uncle (Whom I still haven't met since) gave me a cigarette. When I started coughing, he gave me vodka to "wash it down."

The Explosm Forums are always the time and the place.
Dead baby jokes are only funny the first time you hear them.
The one with the microwave was great!
@Lag: You've got a cool uncle.
