I'm not sure if there are a lot of really computer-savvy people here, but I'll ask anyway:

1. My MP3 player isn't detected by some programs on my computer, and after a quick email conversation with Creative, it seems I need to change one of my USB registry permissions.

2. When I try to change the permission I need in the registry, it gives me an "Access Denied" error. I can't make changes.

3. There's only one account on this OS, mine. It's the administrator/owner. There's no other ones, that could have access.

So, does anyone know how I can correct this and make registry permission changes? Don't just tell me to "email Microsoft". I'm going to do that too, but I'm banking on someone here having a quicker solution.

When you try to edit the key itself? Or just open regedit?

I used regedit.

No I mean when does it tell you access is denied? When you open regedit? Or after opening when you try to edit the key.

Oh. Yeah, I can use regedit fine, locate the key, and get into the permissions window. But when I click "Ok" or "Apply" after making changes, it give me the access denied error.

You may try to recreate the key with the change in it and then delete the original version of the key in your registry.

Try right clicking the registry key you want to edit in the left pane of regedit, clicking permissions and selecting "Administrators ([pc name]\administrators). Now click advanced and give yourself full control over the key.

See, I would, but

Huh. I didn't do anything, but it's letting me save changes now.

Resolved I guess. :ahe:
