What can be said about this gentleman. He's an excelent writer. New York Times BEST SELLER with nearly every book he's ever written.

What Im crrently reading: Rainbow Six
How is it: INTENSE! A non stop thinker with a great combination of action and story. John Clark, while no longer in his prime is still a gripping character in this book. I dont think i want to give the story line to this book away. just pick the book up and read it. This is a must read for all FPS players and shoot'em up lovers everywhere!!

I still think that at this point, my top three books by Tom Clancy are:
1) Red Storm Riseing
2) Without Remorse
3) The Hunt for Red October

my qestion to all of you is, whats your fave? why? and just generally post what you think is a must read by Tom Clancy. also feel free to post those little facts that maybe some of us may not know about Tom Clancy.

I think my dad sumed up Tom Clancy very well when he said "Tom Clancy is solid. His books are like field manuals sprinkled with just enough fiction to keep you hooked. Its addicting. He writes in a way that many try to emulate but few can really do".

post away!!

Never enjoyed Clancy. His books were always too long (at least the ones I picked up :P) and I couldn't motivate myself to finish them.

Although, wasn't he the guy that gets invited to the White House for dinners because they want to know how he knows the stuff he does?

He's ok. He follows Show-Don't-Tell a bit too far for my taste, and he should use more telling. Books are exciting, but they use too much whitespace to get to the climax.

Hunt for Red October - Pretty short
Patriot Games - Didn't understand the ending because he only used cardinal directions (North, south). Maybe I should have written down the description of his house so I knew what direction the house faced.
The Sum of All Fears - By far the longest climax ever. Over 200 page excitement to the end. Awesome book.
Without Remorse - EXTREMELY interesting book for those into moral dilemmas. Very exciting. Highly recommended.
Debt of Honor - Only so-so up until the biggest surprise ending ever
Executive Orders - Interesting, but not much more
Rainbow Six - Extremely exciting book, but the climax was way too short

I've read The Hunt for Red October (my favorite so far), Patriot Games, Red Rabbit, and Clear and Present Danger. They're all good books, but some of them do tend to drag on. Especially Clear and Present Danger. But I get all of mine from the rack of discarded books at the library for a quarter each, so they're a damn good deal.

I've read Rainbow Six, Patriot Games, Red Storm Rising, and The Bear and The Dragon. Rainbow six was probably my favorite, followed by Red Storm Rising.

A lot of stuff has a lot of behind-the-scenes politics, which can be really boring, but he puts our more good stuff than bad from what I've read.

It's "Clancy".

duely noted... thanks.

I just finnished his new one, EndWar. Really good read. I believe there will be an RTS game based on it as well, which I REALLY look foward to.

there was also the game World in Conflict, also an RTS, in which the US gets invaded by the russians. Clancy was consulted on the game as it played rather heavily off of his book Red Storm Riseing. Again, another two books, and games for that matter, that I would highly recomend looking into.

now, with regards to Tom Clancy, has anyone read the NetForce series? I'm thinking about starting the series, but I'm not a tech-weenie and I want to know a bit about it first.

It's not actually by him, but I enjoyed the "Net Force" series. Although I forgot everything now, since I read it 2-3 years ago.

Edit: Huh, I should of read up to the last post of the thread.

Bah, I can't remember anything. It has a good amount of action, but I don't think the series didn't really measure the big impact of the net. I think it was something about drug trafficking on the net for the 2nd or 3rd book, and the 1st one might of been about starting a terrorist attack with the net.

Just skim through the first book, which should be in paper back, and evaluate it. I remember the first chapter of the first book being good enough to hook me in.
