View Full Version : Phone Choices
I have to get a new phone because my current phone is a piece of shit and need a slightly better one. I was wondering if any of you had experience with any of the following phones;
LG 285

Motorola W385

LG Chocolate Flip

Nokia 6265i - refurbished

Comments on how you found these products to work and which one you'd recommend the most. I also use my phone mainly for texting.
I'm not sure what your price range is or if you're willing to stray from those three choices, but if your priority is texting you should consider the Samsung u740.
It has a full QWERTY keyboard on it which is awesome because you don't have to deal with that T9 crap or other annoyances.
Plus it flips open two different ways and is just generally awesome.

I have one and I love it. I've had it since October and it's still in wonderful shape and working great.

If VZ, get a Voyager. If AT&T, wait for the 3G. If any other provider, switch providers.
All others blow from my experience, and I've had pretty much every provider.

You're right about the budget, but I was thinking in terms of investments haha
Verizon and AT&T are the only consistent service providers I've ever had. T-Mobil blew, Sprint was only good if you live in a large city, back when Cingular was around, it was OK but it was consumed by AT&T so there you are.
My review of all the large service providers.

From my understanding, ATT and Cingular are the same company, they just changed names recently.

I believe Cingular was purchased by AT&T. But it doesn't really matter, they complement each other just fine. Cingular was a wireless service provider, and AT&T is a long-distance and land line company as I recall.
So, it wouldn't make much difference.
I use pay and talk and I am rather limited to what my choices are. I don't take exceptionally good care of my phones either. And I'm really not looking to pay more than $200 for it.

You know what, judging by the OP, I don't think he is interested in our kinds of phones. The stuff thats pictured a few posts up is the crap they give to welfare applicants.
For budget phones, I reccomend either the Nokia 6102i, the Samsung A117, or the Motorola RAZR (not really a budget phone but its dirt cheap nowadays)

Firstly, you screwed up the links. Secondly, I used to work in the mobile phone industry and the LG chocolate flip is a terrible phone. The features are average and the flip tends to snap off. Motorola phones recently have had issues with the software dying in them, so I would wait until you see some good reviews of the phones before you decide if that's what you want. If you see ANYONE mention a slight software glitch, don't get the phone. So, out of your list, I'd go for the Nokia, even if it is refurbished. You don't look after your phones anyway so it won't matter if you get it already with a couple of scratches on it. They're reliable phones, they used to have some issues with the slide breaking but they've been resolved now, they're just not as user-friendly as some of the others are.

Ive noticed that Motorola's OS's are clunky and slow as hell.
I've got a LG Sleek, it cost like $40 and I pay $20 a month for pay and talk. It doesn't have a shitty camera or any of that stupid ridiculous crap most phones have now. It's a cell phone and thats all it does, aside from texts. Virgin mobile is my carrier and I haven't had any problems with them as of yet.

I got the Chocolate Spin (http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/bto/20070705/NewChocolateH4Web_270x359.jpg) for $50 because my plan wasn't done when my last phone broke, and I love it. The spin instead of a square touch pad is actually what I like about it the most. It's not a touch dial, like an iPod or other slide phones, it's an actual spinning disc. The only issues I have with it are occasionally your thumb will accidentally tap the back button while you're using the disc. You also need to install something to use the music feature. It's an MP3 phone, like most these days, but you can't just drag and drop. Mine didn't come with a CD yet it says I need to install something. It's not really a big deal since I wouldn't use it for music anyway, I'd use my MP3 player, but it is a bit irritating.

I still don't think you told us the carrier.
I have the LG Muziq for Sprint.
Yeah. (http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/lg-muziq-lx570-black/4505-6454_7-32441322.html) It's a music player but also takes pictures, videos, and other stuff. If you text a lot on a small 1-9 keypad phone, this phone is for you. I can usually send a text in 5 seconds, where it took me about 20 seconds on my old phone. The only bad thing is is that after you send a message and you close your phone, the music touch controls (if you have the key lock off) it'll becomes off anyways and if you touch it, music will start playing.
I'm a fan of the LG Envy, I've had it for almost 2 1/2 years and I put it through hell. I strayed for a while cause I wanted a Chocolate which could be one of the worst decisions made ever. The Envy has full querty text, mp3 capabilities, web..basically everything every other phone now pretty much offers, but it's the usability of the phone that makes it tops.

I have 2 Nokia phones and they both work fine. I drop them from my hand every other day and they don't even care. They're reliable phones in general, so I say Nokia.
