Hi. I'm hoping to get the Orange Box for my birthday in a few weeks. However, I'm a bit worried because when I try to play the demo (downloaded from Steam), it freezes within a few seconds of the intro starting (the sound it was playing when it got stuck loops and the video stops, and I have to reboot the computer). I have a fairly good computer. My friend suggested that I download a driver for the graphics card, but I don't know how to find one. Suggestions, anyone?

What graphics card are you using?

Well, PM me with your OS and graphics card manufacturer and I will help you.

Don't take this into a PM with Carter. Never take any tech support into a PM, for that matter. If he gives you bad advice here we can tell you it's bad - otherwise, you take it into PMs, you're fucked. Also people will probably be able to respond faster right here.

Anyway, as Spastic said, tell us your graphics card model.

Edit: Nevermind, fuck CPU-Z. Read Spastic's post below. Much easier.

Are you using AVG 7, or Norton? Steam was having some issues with those programs sharing resources, and the effect is basically what you described.

If you want to check your what card you have without having to download any software, just do this.

Start > Run > dxdiag

When the box pops up, just click the display tab.

Sorry it's taken so long to put this up. The situation is now URGENT as I got the Orange Box for my birthday today.

I’m running a Compaq Presario with Windows Vista Home Premium. It has an Intel Pentium Dual Processor CPU with 1.6 GHz. I have 1014MB of RAM. The graphics card is an Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family.

Based on research I've done, I'm confident that the problem is the graphics card. I don't have much money to spend on a new one, though. Does anyone know of a passable graphics card (able to run the Orange Box) available for under $100?

I don't know about the graphics card, but the processor won't cut it. TF2 requires 1.7 or higher.

Also http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest is a great tool.

That's where I got my info from. It said the Orange Box would run with my processor. It was slightly below the recommended level, but well above the requirement.

I had a similar problem getting the demo to work and like you also said systems requirement lab said it will run. Try some suggestions form this link even though its for an intel 945. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623213&highlight=945gm

I don't know about the graphics card, but the processor won't cut it. TF2 requires 1.7 or higher. And if the computer is a dual core it will be able to run it.

To be honest with you, the problem is everything. That processor is pretty bad, 1gb of ram isn't really enough for Vista or games, and integrated graphics are always a problem. Still, you've already bought the game so you might as well try to play it, even slowly. Do you know what sort of graphics card (probably agp or pci-e) your computer takes? It isn't a laptop, is it?

I had a similar problem try going to the options in steam and Unchecking the Enable Steam Community In-Game checkbox .

After i did that it worked fine, if that doesn't do it then it will probably be inadequate graphics card/pc specs.

So I have the exact same comp as you, and I had the exact same problem as you did. If you upgrade your graphics card, you'll be able to play the orange box, but it might be a bit a laggy or slow. At least, that's what worked for me. I upgraded to a GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video card (http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Verto-GeForce-8500GT-512MB/dp/B000P9CWTI/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1214590373&sr=8-1) and it works for me. Like I said, it'll be a tad laggy/slow, but it'll run.
