Amazing but sad pictures, don't ya think. :wail:

I know this isn't really open up to much discussion, but just thought I'd share it with you guys. There's not really a section for this sort of stuff. :ahe:

Aww, that makes me sad. In the second picture, you can see the look of helplessness on his face.

*OM NOM NOM NOM NOM*

They are some pretty cool pictures. All credit to the photographer.

I find this weird, because Herons don't usually eat anything but fish.

They're sad pictures, but that's what nature's like. I'm sure this sort of thing happens all the time.

For the most part, i see lions eating gazelles all the time. Kinda turns me on

It seems sad, but if you take a moment and imagine them as dinosaurs it suddenly becomes awesome.

EDIT:

Herons, which are wading birds, usually eat mainly fish or frogs and only occasionally bolster their meals with small mammals or birds.

With a wingspan of between 70 to 80ft, they are terrifying to smaller animals and birds when in full flight.

I think that would just about terrify anything.

that´s kind of funny and strange at the same time :P
like, it's the nature, so it simply has to happen, the will of the strongest, but at the same time it's weird, cuz i thought they only ate fish and bread and stuff :P
not other birds!

Herons are becoming an increasingly persistent problem across wetland towns in the UK. They terrorise local residents and shop owners and are nuisance to the general population. The recent increase in knife-related crime has been attributed to herons, and it is widely known that their violent regime is related to over consumption of drugs and alcohol. If you encounter a heron it is best not to make eye contact, even if they don't seem threatening at first; a request to light a cigarette is often used as an excuse to get close to a target in order to steal their personal belongings.

This article goes to prove how low these herons will stoop to fund their habits. Most likely the heron will dismantle the duckling and sell it for parts the next day.

Be vigilant; if you see a heron up to no good, don't hesitate to inform the police.

That Heron looks like one bad ass mother fucker right here.

With his bad ass haircut, he looks right into the eyes of momma duck, and says "Yeah, whatchoo gunna do 'bout it?"

The photos don't really show how he leaves momma duck to cry about her lost one, but I bet he moonwalked the fuck outta there.

I think that Heron is thinking, "Can I fit the Momma in my mouth too?"

Wow that duckling got owned in the face.

Pretty brutal as well, but it looks like to me that the duckling was still alive as it was being swallowed since the heron didn't chew it. So, either thats a really painful, slow death being eaten away at by herom stomic acid or it was still alive and wriggly and annoying so the heron vomited it back up. Or something.

What that momma needs is clearly a man. But also a bird. Perhaps some sort of pelican...man?

Herons don't have wingspans 70 to 80 ft, it would be like a tractor trailer in the sky. Or a mobile home if you will. Think they meant inches.

Never trust a bird that can walk. They're just one step away from becoming Velociraptors.

Never trust a bird that can walk. They're just one step away from becoming Velociraptors.

a) Birds that can walk will evolve into velociraptors
b) Velociraptors were dinosaurs
c) All dinosaurs are extinct
d) Anything that was extinct, will always be extinct

Therefore, if birds evolve into velociraptors, then they'll become extinct, circa logic of Lewis Carroll.

Birds truly are disturbing (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_sexuality#Necrophilia) creatures.

Screwed up (in a faulty way, christ) link but...

Kees Moeliker of the Rotterdam Natural History Museum, Netherlands observed sexual activities outside his office between a live duck and a dead one. Two male mallards which Moeliker believed were engaged in rape flight, a common motif in duck sexual behavior, collided with his window. "When one died the other one just went for it and didn't get any negative feedback—well, didn't get any feedback," according to Moeliker, who described the event as "homosexual necrophilia."
Oh lawd. And rape flight? Haha, that sounds like interesting rape.
