Internet domain names as we know then are going to flip the fuck out (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/06/27/icann-blows-domains-web)
Is this going to make everything too chaotic?
Personally, i don't think it's such a great idea. I mean, a country is having to get an injunction against a company. What has this world come to?

It had to happen eventually, with us running out of domain names and all.
We're watching evolution here, people. Sit back and enjoy it.

Charlie you're a fucking retard. For one, find a reputable news source, and for two I assume this I mean, a country is having to get an injunction against a company. What has this world come to?
is in reference to this;
Colombia, for instance, is rumoured to already be drafting an injunction against Coca Cola corp for wanting its .coke web domain.
:blanky:. Just :blanky:. I mean part of me think this might be an elaborate joke on your part, but most of me thinks you're just stupid.

Reputable news sources:

Enough?
Also, Quadros, what?

This will be happening, it is on ICANN too.
Do i agree with it?
Well, as long as it can't be abused easily.
Just imagine going to www.google.goat and seeing goatse.. well, don't imagine it, but you get the point, www.microsoft.crap, www.apple.sucks and so on...
edit: haha, it added URLs
Also, this will allow for .xxx to finally be created after years of battling with people to get it approved.
They should have just agreed to .xxx to be honest, easier to protect kids by blocking the TLD, regulate .xxx to make sure no scam sites get in, etc. damn ICANN.. -_-
And ICANN (along with IACA i think, or IANA..always forgot which it is, yeah, N) were hacked recently, redirected to that atspace.com site saying they control the internet.
Pretty funny how easy it is to hack sites these days, almost pathetic (and even more so that the top layer of the internet, the routing, is all based on trust... which is why Youtube was killed that day, and why the internet was nearly taken down years ago when a global route was entered to redirect to 0.0.0.0)

So to go to a japanese porn site I'll have to get a japanese keyboard?
CharlieH

Probably.
I don't like the idea personally. I think they should purly just add a few new endings, like they did when they added ".net" and ".biz".
Not make it unlimited.
This will just be a complete pain in the tits. I already forget which sites are .net or .com or .co.uk, this will just create far more confusion, will make finding websites harder and will make for easier online fraud.

It'll probably make generic .com names worth a lot more.
People, start buying up .com domain names!
I'm gonna buy .cmo versions of every major website.

Why .cmo?
Probably.

Not make it unlimited.
This is what I was thinking when I was that their may be hundreds of new suffixes.
I'm gonna buy .cmo versions of every major website.
There's going to be billions of dollars spent in court over things like this.

Why .cmo?
People misspell "com" as "cmo" is my guess.

It won't be illegal to purchase a domain name. :indiff:

People are doing stuff like that right now. (http://eplosm.net/)

There was an msn article about this and Disney is already prepared to take anyone to court who makes disney.anything.
As for the cost, from what I've seen, your average Joe won't be able to afford one. More like just big companies and nations.

As far as I know it's legal to buy any domain name that is available, even if it has a word in it that is copy written.

Well it's hazy, but if you're infringing on their trademark blatantly they can just contact ICANN and they'll manually revoke your ownership and if they suffer enough damages they can take it to court. Cybersquatting is frowned upon.
It probably won't be worth it as the prices to register such domains are for corporations.
This will truly be interesting. I wonder what they were thinking, allowing domain names to change? And as for court cases, I'm sure that ICANN has foreseen all trademark stealing website ideas and quite possibly will not sell domain names like "disney.cmo".

I'm sure, with their billions of dollars, they could find something.
