Check these out, everybody. Total. Nerdgasm.

Basically, these watches are Japanese imports that utilise creative means by which to show the time. LEDs are used a lot and the design is generally very modern and, frankly, beautiful.

I know it's definitely a niche market, though, so what do you think of them?

I'm thinking of getting one, but I can't really decide which. Comments? Ideas?

Whoa. I'm gonna order one. When someone asks me for the time, I would feel like such a cool guy and such a massive douchebag while reading it to them.

This one's pretty cool:

I would love to buy one of those like this one.

But the price is a bit of a bitch and I can only imagine the shipping to the us.

Says the shipping is free on orders over $95. And the prices aren't too bad; the analog watch I bought at Wal-Mart cost me almost $100 and it stinks. For cool watches like these, I'm willing to pay a bit more.

I like the look of the watches but I really don't like to many of the straps. They seem to shiny and or corny.

This is my main problem, a lot of the straps look stupid to me.

If you buy one that has standard strap pins, you could just replace the strap with whatever you want (some don't have that luxury though, like the one Soul posted).

Yeah, the prices aren't too bad when you think about it. I'd say they average at about $150 (meaning free shipping), and a cheap watch from one of the bigger brands is still probably upwards of $200.

I really like the watches Tempest and Soul posted.

I can't decide if I like this one or not.

My main problem is, how the fuck are you meant to tell the time on them?

My main problem is, how the fuck are you meant to tell the time on them?

It tells you in the description of each watch.

The hard way.

The one Matterialize posted has one set of LEDs for the hour (1-12), one for the first digit of the minute (0-5) and one for the second digit of the minute (0-9). You'll get used to it eventually, but not before you get fed up and throw it out and buy a normal watch.

Check out some of the videos on YouTube featuring the watches. The animations on some of them are pretty damn cool.

The only thing that sucks about them is that they can't stay on all the time because that'll quickly drain the battery.

That's true. Another thing that irks me, on some of the watches, is that they pulse every minute or so from 6pm to 1am, and once every minute for 12 minutes if you press the button during the daytime. That'd get annoying.

How do you know they pulse do you own one? Or does someone you know have one.

Nah, just random things floating around the web. On the Tokyoflash site, for example, it indicates that all Pimp watches pulse. Like on this watch (http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/pimp/pimpin_aint_easy_ip_gold/).

Some of the video reviews/unboxings also point to that fact.

Upon more thought, though, it's probably just the Pimpin Ain't Easy line of watches that pulse.

Oh i remember seeing some of these watches awhile back.

The Scope one looks fantastic, even if it does have an asymmetric front-panel.

Infection looks really cool too.

The JLr7 one is a little strange.. the panel layout is really smart, well, except the seconds one. (but most of them don't look that precise with seconds anyway)

The one i really don't like are the Retsu style, whats with the massive unused space??
Did they put about 6 batteries in there or something?

Ugh. I can't believe I'm considering spending $170 on a watch ... Damn you trendy Asians!

I know how you feel Jay, I really want one but it seems like a bit too expensive for my tastes, if anyone here gets one let me know how you like, I may reconsider.

I am this close to buying one, really. There's a fierce battle raging inside me between my great desire to own one and my fear of looking like a massive geek while wearing it.

I like the Galaxy. Nice and symmetrical, easy to read, Looks awesome, and not too nerdy. I'm considering ordering.

That's the one I had my eye one too, I don't want anything too bulky or weird/nerdy looking. So I think I may just break down and get one of these.

It figures that as soon as I get some cash I'd stumble upon something like this and consider spending it all. :argh: One thing that's keeping me back from ordering (though that Galaxy one is pretty damn spiffy) is whether or not these watches have the same typical functions as regular watches. I mean, do these watches have timers, stop watches, or alarm settings?

No....

But they look awesome right? That's enough to spend close to $200 on them, instead of those shitty watches from sears.

I must be the only guy that doesn't like these. I hate watches that look like toys, but these things take the cake. I'd personally rather have a regular one any day.

Actually, yeah, these might look cool, but I'd prefer a regular digital watch with LED numbers, like those back in the 70's.

Sweet, I convinced my mom to buy me the Oberon one and I'll pay her back bit by bit.
Unfortunately, I think my brake pads on my car need to be changed, so I might have to give up my well being (and possibly life) so I can have an awesome watch.

Awesome, DAD. Tell us how you like it.

I've decided some of these would look super amazing with those thick, cuff style leather straps. I always thought chains were pretty mediocre looking.

edit: A new line of 5 watches has been released, with offset, but otherwise more traditional looking, faces.
