Over this summer, I have three books that I am required to read for school. I'm starting The Red Badge of Courage (Stephen Crane) and I was wondering if anyone here has read and what their thoughts are. So far, I'm really not enjoying it. The pages are long and small typed and the plot isn't very interesting.

I also have to read Alive (Piers Paul Read), and Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway). I'd prefer thoughts on The Red Badge of Courage, but if you have read any of these, feel free to comment.

I found The Red Badge of Courage to be less exciting than To Kill A Mocking Bird. Just wait till you have to read The Scarlet Letter. Oh my gawd.

Just get through it as quick as you can, but I didn't like it at all.

yeh, get it over with as quickly as possible. its a good book when you consider the literary advancements of the period blah blah blah, but it can be just torture. until you read the scarlet letter (even the sparknotes are a chore to read)
