I just drew this up in MS paint, free hand. I was thinking of using it as my avatar. What do you guys think? Negative and positive critique welcome.

That sucks. The outward lines are too thick, Prawns don't have arms, it's singularly colored, awfully pixelly, and STEALTHPRAWN looks like one word.

Also it sucks.

Yeah, I was running out of room. And I know prawns don't have arms. Also, its pixelly because I used MS paint.

I figured it was bad, that's why I asked for critique first.

So I should shave off a bit of the outward lines and put some more diverse color?

EDIT-http://i7.tinypic.com/2nimia1.jpg

This is the same thing, but I've given the prawn a little color.

Anyone with a speck of art talent could whip that up in half a second. Why would you waste our time with that?

Wow, dumbass. If you yourself think its bad then why waste our time with that shit? I'm just hoping you're like 12 or something, otherwise you have some sort of a serious mental defect.

The problem isn't the program he's using, the problem is that he doesn't have the patience and/or the skill to make it look better. Seriously, if you wanted the outline to be a perfect curve, you just need to have some patience and paint and erase or use the circle tool or something. Don't just draw a line and say, "Well, that'll do!"

Also, MSPaint has a text tool for a reason.

A good tip, since you're planning to use this is an avatar: cut the canvas down to the acceptable size of an avatar (I believe it's 80x80 here), *then* draw it. It'll be easier to smooth things out on a pixel scale. Check out the Spriting threads to see that it is indeed possible to draw things on that scale that look amazing.

Another good tip: Don't waste our time if you don't bother to spend your own time first. It looks like you did that thing in 2 freaking minutes.

Why do people always bad mouth Ms paint, it's not a painting program no, but you CAN draw brilliant pictures on it, and it is possible to make lines that don't look too pixelly, if you do a few things.
1. Take your god damn time, as Lynley said don't draw a line and leave it, if it doesn't look right rub it out and try again.
2. If you want a curved line use the curved line tool, do not try and draw it yourself, unless it's a tiny line chances are it won't look good.
3. Get rid of corners, you see those pixels that look like right angles? Delete the pixel that juts out, this gives lines a much much smoother appearance.
4. Learn to shade properly with dithering or just use a drop shadow, in other words a small shadow that follows the creatures outline and shows where the light source is, for example, the light cource is above on the shrimp so shade in the shrimps bottom half. You can also add a highlight at the top for extra impact.
5. Never, ever use the paint brush tool.
And finally, number 6, if you are going to try and draw in paint do so on a smaller scale, this way you can add good amounts of detail without it taking hours.

By the way if you would like me to make you an avatar sized stealth prawn just ask and I'll see what I can do.

Hats of!

First of, It doesn't look like a prawn.
Second of, It's horrible drawn.
Thrid of, There's no point shading if you don't go for a 3D-style.

It kind of looks like a rolled up penis, doesn't it?

Jiggz

Clearly you don't have a penis?

That's pretty shitty by the way. Didn't reading showcase-showdown show you the standard of art we're used to? And how sub-par this piece is?

Refer to post #14 for further action.

Just really, take your time next time. *Care* about how it looks. Zoom in and make it the 80x80.

Example, my new avatar, a dragon. I made it in MSPaint, at size 80x80. I zoomed in and did it pixel by pixel. Took me probably 2 or 3 hours total. You just have to have the patience to work that small and for that long a time.

I thought the whole idea of ms paint was to draw doodles without making it a master piece? If you intend to make a master piece surely you should just use a program that is better aquainted for such a drawing?

I thouhgt it was amusing, but no offence it looks more like a mutated penis than a prawn.

No Rampant the whole idea of MS Paint is to be a free program that can be used for simple tasks, however, I'm sure a quick look on the MS Paint art thread will confirm this, it can also be used to great effect. Remember it's the artist that makes the work good not the program, Stealth Prawn could pay 300 dollars for flash and it could still look like a bendy cock.

I'm honestly suprised that you guys let this post stay here for this long. And actually, I've never been too great of an artist, and I don't have a couple hundred bucks to spend on any programs just to make an avatar, because, as you can tell, I'm not an artist.

Also, it was meant to look more like a cartoon than a realistic drawing. Also, I don't really like any of the fonts that MS paint has. And I don't like the lines that it produces with the line tool.

Thanks to the people who gave real advice instead of just shouting "THAT SUCKS!" I know it sucks, I was looking for advice on it, seeing as how that's really the first thing I've ever drawn with the paintbrush. I wanted to see how it turns out. Also, I completely forgot about the size limit.

Also, Lynley, that really does look good. I'm surprised you could do that with MS Paint.

Also, not 12. 16.

Also also also also also.

Seriously though, I didn't think it was that bad. It's just for an avatar, why does everybody expect the mona lisa replica?

Vortex: Avatars aren't worth a thread, especially if whoever posts it admits themselves that they suck.

Seriously prawnfag, if you just put your crappy avatar up we would've kept it to ourselves. There's no excuse for putting crappy art on the showcase. Period.
