WARNING: Possible Spoilers

I just finished reading Halo: Ghosts of Onyx this morning. The last chapater was helpful in explaining why the Master Chief was always (prematurely) called the "last SPARTAN". And it will now stop my rantings at people when they say that.

Seriously, how the hell is Blue team and Dr. Hasely ever gonna get out?

Also, knowing Forerunner technology... There's probably some sort of time difference. eg. a few days spent in there might equal up to a year in the outside world or something. (Remember with the crystal found on Reach and how it effected the slipspace stream and time..ness?)

So, what I want to know is how you found the book, and what theories you might have come up with after reading it. Also, what you might have heard about it from other sources.

Please, no book bashing, if you think reading a book based off a video game is stupid then keep your opinions too yourself because no-one will care otherwise.

I read it a while ago. But I'm guessing that they are going to find some sort of mainframe for the sphere to control it. The forerunners wouldn't have built something so massive and not have a way to open it from the inside. My second guess but this is highly unlikely but they might find some forerunners in there or at least some sort of guilty spark type AI.

I know there was one on Harvest in Halo: Contact Harvest, I think there might have been one on Reach. There's one on every Halo too. Stands to reason there'd be one there. Wow, didn't think of that.

Then they'd have to go through the whole "Reclaimer" thing though. And as good as they're supposed to be, the SPARTAN-III's didn't get it the first time round, so they'll see one of the Guilty Spark's, think it's a Sentinel and probably try and shoot it down...

Yea but the Guilty Sparks are basically indestructible and eventually I'm sure they would figure out he poses no harm. And doesn't Dr.Hasly know about the the Sparks anyway?

I came across the book at the library after reading the first three, so it was only logical to read the fourth one.

I think that Dr.Hasly and the Spartan III's are going to either meet or have an epic battle against the forerunners. And I really haven't browesed any secondary sources.

I'm going to assume that they find another Cartographer. Have you guys read Contact Harvest?

I've read heaps of spoilers for it, but not the book itself. When I go to a bookstore with no money, its there. I come back 5 minutes later with cash, it's freakin' gone.

And I don't think the forerunners survived, I think something went wrong and they didn't get back to Onyx in time so that's why the weird slipspace world is, as yet, uninhabited.

Contact Harvest is all about the first contact with the covenent. Nothing to advance the story-line, it just clarifies how it all came started.

There probably isn't a way to open it from the outside as everyone outside the slipspace world is supposed to be dead. I think it's set to open after a preset time has passed i.e. however long it takes for the Flood to starve to death.

And that will probably take billions of years. What if it's only a few week to them though (time dilation thing again)?

the time dilation thing is a very logical thing that could happen. but i'm wondering if they are going to come out with another book.

I'm wondering who's going to write it

I hope Eric Nylund. Out of all the Halo book authors so far, he's been the best. In my personal opinion of course. But think about it, he's had the most experience so go figure.

I really don't care who writes them as long as they continue to write 'em.

I don't think a civilization as advance as them would make it so they can't open it from the inside if they want to. I mean a preset time would be kind limiting their option when they're in there. I'm betting there is some sort of control room.

Or maybe they're so advanced, they recognize human errors in themselves, and know that in a moment of weakness they could let the flood in so they put failsafes on it. O.o

Well Flood would be dead because as soon as the door closes all the Halo rings are supposed to be set off to wipe out all sentient lifeforms.

I've read all the Halo books and loved them, this one was really good but i'm dying for another one to come out and tie up the loose ends/continue the story.

I'd rather a book that did that than Contact Harvest, to be honest (even though i really enjoyed it).

I hope Eric Nylund. Out of all the Halo book authors so far, he's been the best. In my personal opinion of course. But think about it, he's had the most experience so go figure.

I'll have to agree with you on this one, Eric Nylund is my fav. Halo-writer too.
I've read all the books, except Contact: Harvest. Basically I thought that book was pretty lame, maybe I'll buy it soon though.

(The Flood; that book sucked pretty much. In my opinion it had a lot of repetitive writing and it didn't tell anything new about the whole conflict it basically IS HALO:Combat Evolved.)

Ghosts of Onyx is my fav. book of all the current Halo books; I liked the Spartan-III's(, not as much as I like Linda or Kelly though; For some reason I like the Sniping and the Speed. The part in First Strike where Linda had set herself between some ducts was awesome.)
The things said by blue-team insinuates there will be a next book "BLA BLA LETS FIND THEM" something along the lines, can't remember exactly, but they'll probably find a control-thing and with Halsey's expertise and the strenght of the spartans. They'll be able to get any Index the world requires.

Problem would be though; this place lacks enemies! Who would there be to fight? Only sentinels OR maybe Forerunners... I doubt Forerunners are hostile though and if they are, well blue-team is dead. (In The Flood the Spark said that Masterchiefs suit was reading as a class 2 and he should upgrade to a class 12.)

Could be though that Ghosts of Onyx is the last part and now we can just imagina what'd happen after.
Sometimes imagination is better than to crush thoughts of anything special.
