I thought it was great. I loved the other Max Brooks zombie book (I can't believe I forget what its called), and while this one wasn't as entertaining, it still was really funny and great. Really gave you a good perspective on zombies. 9/10.
Aren't they making a movie about it?

Yep, still working on the script though.
I really loved it. It was defiantly the best, smartest, and most interesting piece of zombie fiction I've read. It dealt with the pandemic on so many levels and from so many perspectives which were realistic enough to be scray on there own. Some stories were a bit boring than others but defiantly a great book overall.
I thought the Zombie Survival Guide was better, but I loved reading how people dealt with the zombies and what not. I only wish I could find some books/stories about it, not just short little bits.

Yeah some stories defiantly were much more boring than others but once you hit a good story it makes up for it.
Hahaha, I loved everything about this book. From the celebrities getting attacked, the the asian guy in the apartment. A really interesting take on zombies.

AT first I really liked it. Same with ZSG.
However, I'm a fucking zombie freak. Massive, massive Romero fan. As such, the more I have gone over it, the more I hate it.
Actually, the more I go over it (and ZSG) the more I hate Max Brooks. The guy is an egocentric fuck knuckle who has the arrogance to think he can determine zombie lore while pissing on those who have come before him and who are true legends eg. Romero.
His attitude is absolutely dismissive of anything in the zombie genre that might be contradictory to his work. As such, he can go fuck himself. He's little more than a shill.
As for the book, it is full of holes. His elitist upbringing is highlighted by his utter dismissal of survivalism. His understanding of American society and culture (Read: everyone has guns) is almost nil, once again due to the silver spoon he was born with. His description of the military response is evidence of a total lack of any military experience (or extensive research).
Some of the stories are good, others little more than thin coverings for his liberal political agenda. In true egotistical style, he misses the opportunity to build meaningful subtext (once again, see Romero) with the best he can come up with being the liberal political soapboxing I just mentioned.
He should be given singificant credit for the scope of the work, even if it was done extremely poorly. To date, zombie texts have almost exclusively been "group of survivors in a farmhouse" scenarios, whereas he addressed the implied global apocalypse that has been there since Night of the Living Dead.
However, compared to the shortcomings of both himself and the book, the points he gains here are meaningless.
The more time goes on, the more I think about zombies (as I always do) and the more I think about WWZ and ZSG, the more I am becoming utterly dismissive of these texts and their pompous, arrogant author.

It's really detailed, and the characters are nicely diverse. It has the tone of primary sources, which makes it feel that much more credible.
