What kind of video game would it be? I was originally going to post this in the Media Funhouse, but it's gone now, so I guess it can go here. I am putting this question forward because I have what I think may be a fun idea for the forum.. It's kind of in the same vein as the "Explosm records a demo tape" thing that was here before.. Only I want to gather several people up and basically create a development team for a video game.. Of course, we won't actually MAKE the game (unless we have some video game programmers on explosm that I don't know about), but I think it could be a fun little project, to see how well the members can work together to create an interesting-sounding layout for a video game.

Please note: Racing and Sports have been left off intentionally, there's not a whole lot of plotline, etc you can do with them.

Shooter/Adventure. It would be a FPS zelda with guns. You have a general overworld but they're dungeons and you'd have to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, etc. BUT YOU'D HAVE GUNS. Also shields. I have it all worked out in my head, if only I knew how to make a game. This idea is actually really simple compared to my other crazy ideas, because I picture it with graphics equal to that of DOOM.

But I really have every type of game worked out in my head, you see I don't spend much time in school thinking about school.

I had an idea for a Zombie Outbreak MMORPG where you choose from differing classes of citizens such as police officer, paramedic, army, teacher, office worker and ruffian. You'd have to go along, trying to escape the city to get to an island the the infection hadn't spread to yet. It would take ages to get there as the world would be the size of the world, you'd have to stop for food and fuel to travel. If you became infected you could become a zombie which would also have it's own story archs.

I ended up giving up on it because there is currently a game in development with basically the exact same premise.:/

Just to add in my two cents, by the way, I chose Survival Horror. I've always had a lot of great ideas for, say RPGs or Strategy games.. But I've always been especially interested in Survival Horror games, I believe there's so much untapped potential that gets passed over because everyone wants to make the next great zombie game.. Survival Horror != zombies, that's merely one (played out, not to mention) thing that they could pertain to. I think Survival Horror could be so much more than it currently is.

Mine would be like splinter cell, but no sneaking. FUCK SNEAKING! I want to burst in shooting, and when you do backflips and acrobatic shit, time slows down. I would also make a super hero game where you pla a guy who shoots lightning out his hands. And a roman warrior game where can either conquer land or befriend leaders and the cool thing is: you live forever. You can help in the American Revolution or WWII. And your weapons go to spears to guns.

P.S. Tempest Devil, Your Icon ROCKS!!

I was thinking along the lines of RPG meets Tactical Shooter meets Adventure. Obviously.

Think a modern day-setting Deus Ex, but you're an army commander. Open ended, I was thinking, so it's possible to either run in with guns blazing, or bribe someone to open a side-door for you, to sneak in from, like how Deus Ex was. Also some squad tactics and puzzle things added in for good measure. Obviously.

Yeah. The concept amuses me, but it sounds very similar to some current games. Eh, I'll have to work out the kinks.

RPG's all the way.

I love survival horror games. I would want to make something between Manhunt and Resident Evil.

I'd make something that would resemble God Of War or Prince Of Persia. I've always liked games like that.

I think I would make a game, where you play as a short, fat Italian man. You have to defeat turtle guys to save the princess (I think I'll name her after some sort of fruit) From the king of all the turtle guys. How does my idea sound?
OR
I would make a game where you are a sniper for your country. You have to infiltrate enemy bases and find the sniper spot to kill your man. (The guy only appears once)

Mine would be an RPG. I've always been a sucker for games like Final Fantasy :wail:

Well it seems like RPG is going to be the clear favorite in this, I kind of figured it would be that way. That's okay though, because I know with the decently creative minds around here, something interesting could come of it.

Also: If any admin sees this, could this thread get a move to the Media forum please?

I'd do Survival Horror. The genre need's reinventing, as i feel that since around Silent Hill 2 (2002?) it's been pretty much standstill.

Tactical Shooter. I've always been a fan of the Ghost RECON/Rainbow series.

Definitely RPG/Adventure.
I love games where you have no real objective, or where you do but it becomes secondary to exploration.
You always need a good story, though, to keep it going, and some level of mindless anarchy when it comes to fighting.
Maybe fps bullet hell?

To really make a game, RPG Maker would be the easiest, I have some experience with it.

But if I'd make a game I would make a GTA/Postal with raping and other sick shit :evillaugh

I'd make a beat-em-up. An AWESOME ONE with alot of violence and crazy moves. Your right hand would have some crazy gypsie curse that'd make it uber brutal, and your left hand would be a bigass cannon with which you could uppercut people and blast them apart at the same time. The main character would be a total joke of a cliche, like the Punisher but worse- And he would come up with a rediculous play on words every time you beat a boss, even though nobody would be around to hear it.
As you get furtehr through the game, you can buy more awesome moves and combos, customising your moveset. There'd be Cel-Shaded explosion all over the damn screen, as everything would be destructable. You can also use scrawny enemies as close-range weapons or projectiles. The game would also be full of vehicles, and it would not be free-roaming, but level-based.
I guess it'd be a cross between Duke Nukem and God Hand.
EDIT- I drew the main character (http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/425/seargantbadasswh4.png)

A Shooter. It's easy to make, it's funny and intense. Would be one like Natural Selection, where you have to kill to gain upgrades.

Survival Horror!
I've always wanted to make a good nuclear apocalypse type game.

Survival Horror. There's so much that hasn't been done yet. Silent Hill branched out a little more with the inclusion of other creepy things besides zombies. And Fatal Frame II has one of the best storylines ever. Plus I'm a sucker for anything horror. I actually had a genius idea for a survival horror game and was going to write out a nice storyline but I'm so damn lazy I haven't even started.

Did anyone ever play Indigo Prophecy? Another game like that would be amazing if it included actual combat and wasn't just centered around dialogue and cutscenes.

I'd make an RPG based on the modern world with awesome super weapons and with gruesome deaths. My game game would be like Earthbound but with much more violence.

Everyone is going to pick RPG. MMORPGs are all the craze.

A Massive Multiplayer Online Strategy Game would be awesome though.

Real Time Strategy - Bugger
A game where you wage war with your opponents with bugs.
Can play as the Hymenoptera, the faster, mobile insects who have the most flying units, and have ants as workers. A unit example is the Sawfly, who can use its serrated "saw" sting to demolish buildings, but is too cumbersome to attack moving targets.
Can also choose to play the Dictyoptera, who have insects with more defensive capabilities, with termites as gatherers. A unit example is the Mantid, who can camouflage herself, has excellent vision and can spot other hidden enemies.
Or lastly you can be the Araneomorphae, who specialises in expensive, powerful spiders, who starts out with a herd of relatively tiny species. I don't have any ideas or examples for this. =<

Role-Playing Game - Cult Clash
You participate in a battle of cults, as a Pirate, Ninja, Robot, or Zombie. Every race levels, fights, functions, and perceives differently.
The Pirate excels at weaponry, whether ranged or melee, and is pretty tough to kill. He levels up relatively quickly, but he needs gold to buy new weapons and ammunitions, and he'd have to travel the world to find them.
The Ninja specialises obviously in stealth, occasionally using weapons. He takes a little longer to level up than the Pirate, but money isn't as important to him, and he needs only to return to the same temple he trains in to learn new skills.
The Robot is very adaptable, and can transform into different forms depending on the situation. He doesn't gain experience points at all. His level depends on what parts he has on his body. However, new parts are very expensive, and hard to find.
The Zombie, on the other side of the extreme, takes the longest to level up, but does not need to buy any new skills, as he mutates over a period of time. Not necessarily a slow-moving character, he is the most perseverant of all.

I have an Adventure game idea, but it's too much to explain. I also have a Fighting game idea, but it's turning out to be a bad one.

Nice. Anything over-the-top and cliched is good.

Well ive just started on a mod (practically a game) with some friends for UT3. Anyways it's pretty much what ive been wanting to make. It's a post-apocalyptic tactical shooter with some horror elements. We have 4 enemy classes so far.

The Tainted: Humans who have been infected with the Black Vein, which is a radioactive virus caught by breathing oxygen made by blight woods in the wastelands. Symptoms are expulsion of blood from orifices and veins turning black, starting from infection point going to head. Once these humans have caught the disease and it reaches the brain they start to mutate and become nothing more than savages.

Xenosapiens:Bio engineered humanoid creatures that are immune to the high radiation levels and Black Vein. The Humans had created and enslaved them to build towns and collect resources for them. They eventually end up rebelling against the humans.

The Bandits: Humans that were cast out of the cities for committing crimes. They have to raid and steal to survive out in the wastelands.

The Machines(Arka?):Back before the incident there was a nation of 'no souls' that had been created to keep peace on the planet and to protect mankind. After the incident happened the machines went into hibernation because mankind was known to be extinct. The Xenosapiens later awaken the robots to use them against mankind and the tainted.

You would play as a member of the M.S.C. (Militant Security Coalition.) A force of volunteers to make up an army that defends the last of mankind. We already have about 10 pages of info and terminology and about another 8 on the story. As for game play elements, we want to have no crosshairs, iron sights, sprint, cover, climb, blind fire, down but not out (like CoD4), destroyable cover, kill moves(to make the game a bit more gruesome), attachments, inventory system and a heavily scripted single player with lots of animations and such. Were also working on a new FPS aiming system that is different from most FPS games.

If not that I would probably like to do an RPG of some sort.

MMORPG. No idea what it would be like though, haven't given it much thought.

My and some friends are making an mmorpg zombie survival game right now, its going to be pretty damn awsome. We dont know weather or not to make it free but with adds and weapons you can spend real money on or make it pay per month.

Don't think anyone else is interested in voting, and I doubt anything is going to overtake RPG anyway, so the poll is ending early.
