View Full Version : Your take on the heated PS3 vs X360 battles?

I personally think this is the dumbest thing to fight about, but then again, most forums, articles, YouTube videos & comments and blogs looks to be nothing more than a bunch of raving lunatics battling it out, flaming each other and Sony/Microsoft over which console is better overall. Some points are valid, though they can be a bit exaggerated but most of the batter I see is just pure, nonsensical fanboy bullshit. It's obvious that both have their own strengths and weaknesses but in the end, they're almost identical. Being that the average gamer on these next-gen consoles (if they still are next-gen consoles) falls somewhere between the ages of 25-30, I was really expecting people to understand that and be more mature, but no! When you buy one, the new trend seems to be.... FLAME THE OTHER!
R98qC0fd_1w
Typical X360 fanboy retardedness:
The PS3 is too expensive
The PS3 having to install games is bullshit and sucks
The PS3 has no good games
Blu-ray is useless
Online play on the PS3 sucks and is laggy
I buy consoles for games, not to watch movies or surf the web on them
All good games on the PS3 are coming out on X360 soon
Xbox has better graphics
uZQA2zGihCs
Typical PS3 fanboy retardedness:
All X360's are unreliable
No more good games will come out on the X360
Paying for online play is bullshit
XBL is full of whiny, potty-mouthed 13 year olds
The X360 is good for nothing but FPS games
Halo 3 isn't that good
Microsoft support sucks
PS3 has better graphics
Now I personally don't own an X360 (PS3 fanboy here), but I've borrowed it, played it extensively on and offline, and I give it respect. It's a great system, through and through. Almost identical to the PS3, except a few awesome exclusives, like Gears of War. Same exact thing goes to my buddies who don't own PS3's. They have nothing but praise for the system and were completely blown away by MGS4. One thing we all hated is that you can't play the same game online if you have different consoles. I think that would've made things more peaceful for both sides.
Whatever, that's just my rant. You can add yours too, but please, let's not turn this into another flame fiesta. Be mature.

(I got this information at http://forums.megadeth.com/showthread.php?t=330900)
If you look at a price comparison.
PS3 - $500 with two games and one Wireless Sixaxis Controller and a Blu-Ray Disc from HMV (as of 10-10-2007)
Xbox 360 - $400 with one game and 1 controller
Now PS3 has WiFi and Blu-Ray and free internet access, so to make it the same im adding it on the Xbox for a real price comparison.
Xbox 360 + $85 for WiFi + $170 for a HD DVD drive = $650
$650 + 1 games @ $40 + A years worth of Xbox Live @ $55 = $750
So the Xbox is $750
PS3 is $500
You choose which one...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I know some of you Xbox fanbois will be arguing about the Elite. Now lets do a price check on that shall we...
PS3 - $500 with two games and one Wireless Sixaxis Controller and a Blu-Ray Disc from HMV (as of 10-10-2007)
Xbox 360 Elite - $500 with Halo 3 and Forza 2 and Extra Wireless Controller
Now PS3 has WiFi and Blu-Ray and free internet access, so to make it the same im adding it on the Xbox for a real price comparison.
Xbox 360 Elite + $85 for WiFi + $170 for a HD DVD drive = $650
$650 + A years worth of Xbox Live @ $55 = $815
So the Xbox is $815
PS3 is $500
Xbox 360 Elite does have more memory but has not increased its power, so there really isn't a huge benefit seeing as no-one even uses anywhere near that amount of memory.
Take that, Xbox fanbois...

Here i took those arguments and added some lighter notes, don't really know if it helped but i think it will.
Xbox 360-
1. Only a small percentage of Xbox 360's malfunctioned
2. There is a line up of great games coming out including madden 09, Fallout 3, Mercenaries 2, Fable 2, Rock band2, and many more.
3.Considering the amount of support and organization of the xbox live community ill pay 5 bucks a month to play the games i love against other people.
4.You can mute the whiny potty mouthed 13 year olds.
5.Theres great games that arent fps, mainly grand theft auto 4 and many of the upcoming games i mentioned and of course the pre-existing sports games.
6.Halo3 is bomb, its just harder than halo 2 so people whine
7.This i cant really argue because i never had to encounter Microsoft support.
8.Graphics vary by game.
Playsation 3-
1.The price is going down to a more affordable level
2.Installing games doesent take long ive tried
3.Resistance:fall of man, Grand theft auto, and Metal Gear Solid 4 are great games.
4. Blu-ray is going to explode in the future now that hd dvd's are gone. Xbox users will just have to but the expansion.
5. The ps3 online community is growing more organized and more enjoyable. Lag depends on your connection.
6. If you feel that way than buy the lowest ps3 and just play games.
7. Many good games on the xbox360 might come out for ps3!
8. Varys by game

Well, I'm not getting WiFi because my internet port is right by my TV, and who the fuck needs the HD DVD drive? Did you even read that part? That's at least 255 dollars off the 815. Plus, I'm MORE than glad to pay 50 (not 55, if they are not including tax) to play online with friends, and not with complete strangers that I might as well do on the computer.
Edit: To spiffy.

I'd like to point out that at HMV, and you can check the website if you want, a ps3 is £300 with one game and an xbox is £200
no ifs, no buts, that is the price

I just wanted to play all the new games without havin to spend like £300. I got my 360 from HMV, it's the deal Chrono just said.
You'd have to be fuckin crazy to spend all that on a PS3.
I think those two youtube videos were made as more a humor thing, because I laughed at both.
On the topic I couldn't care less. I like the 360 exclusives more but PS3 has MGS4, and most of the games are out for 360 and PS3. I can't say anything about PS3 online because I haven't played it, but paying for 360 online isn't that bad because its freakin awesome, and its only 50 dollars for an entire year. I usually defend the 360 more because I own one and not a PS3, but who cares PS3 is fine too.
Matterialize
07-31-2008, 2:33 PM
I own a 360 and like it a lot, but I've never played a PS3 so I don't have a factual opinion. Based on what I've heard, though, it sounds great too- the free online play coupled with new online features like realistic-looking avatars and interactive game rooms is pretty cool. I would actually like to get one and own both consoles.
Really, though, console wars are retarded. I'm not trying to seem all 'superior' or 'above' the nonsense, but it's true. The fanboys/girls are just ridiculous. Even my 360-playing friends shake their heads when I talk about getting a PS3, but why? What's the point? If you go out and buy a 360, where does this sudden urge to hate the PS3 come from? The fact that the two companies are competing is irrelevant to consumers, because you're free to buy whichever one you want. And owning one doesn't mean you can't own the other, unless you're really damn poor, in which case you should be spending your money on things like food and shelter instead of video games.

Everyone I know who gets defensive about the 360 owns a ps2. The ps2 was a magnificent system, everyone loved it, even when the xbox came out there wasn't much flaming at all. But for some reason when the 360 joins the gang, hate emerges, and the love for playstation is gone.
I'm not going to get into the price, because it depends on the country. Down here, both are practically the same, with ps3 having the advantage of blu-ray and wifi and what not.
Just my list of disadvantages:
Xbox:
According to the forums, 27.50% has gotten the RROD.
If you need/want it, you have to pay extra for wifi/HD.
2 years of live = 100$
Ps3:
According to some people, the Ps3 is terribly over priced.
Chrono
07-31-2008, 3:13 PM
I don't use live, even if I did surely £60 for 2 years doesn't quite hit the £100 difference in price.
Xbox is both cheaper to buy, and to buy games, i'm not sure why people keep saying it's not.
http://www.definiteplay.co.uk/?gclid=CJe5386F65QCFQNaFQodRTBcRA
Thats the link which says £30 for 12 months xbox live
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=824390
Thats the ps3 from HMV for £300, that is actually minus any games
http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=709986
And that is the Xbox360 for £200
If you're going to tell me i'm wrong about the prices, and that they are the same, please either link me or just shut up

40g PS3-$399 (roughly 200 pounds?)

60g Xbox 360- $349 (roughly 180 pounds?)
So thats the difference over here.

I think it's stupid battling with these systems. Both the PS3 and Xbox360 are awesome. I own a 360 but I wish I had both (I really want to get LittleBigPlanet and MGS4). I didn't like having to pay for XBL either. I think it's funny that everyone is argueing about the PS3 and Xbox, but no one gives a shit about the Wii.

I use a PC. Cheaper games (I got CoD4 for £2), essentially free online play, Modable games and frequent patches, Mouse is easer to use, and my PC has awesome graphics (4 GB ram, GeForce 8800 GTX), and PCs have a lot more to offer in the way of games and different platforms.
The only problem with teh PC is that your friends can't play with you offline. For this i use my Wii, which is great for multi-player (Brawl, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Blox etc).
PC for single player, graphics and online
Wii for fun, friends and family.

I disagree. In terms of a controller, it really comes down to personal preference.

Except when exclusives come out. Not only that but PC's can be very stubborn. Don't get me wrong, I also say that PC's are in some ways dominant over the consoles but everything has it's flaws. Not only that but not many people can save a lot of money on pc parts by buying them separate and putting them together, they don't have time to learn. Consoles are a good way to make it easy. If I had to choose I would pick pc over any console but saying the rest are a waste of money without even owning them is kind of ignorant, of course I'm gonna hear that you played them at your friends but that doesn't mean much.

I had a x-box360 and I have to admit GoW and Halo3 are pretty awesome games, had lots and lots of fun while playing it, but it got the RROD and it pissed me off so bad I got it fixed and sold it.
Ps3 only played with the brother of my gf and it's also a lot of fun! GTA4 is in my opinion better on the ps3 then on the 360. I prefer the xbox' controller, although it's a minor adjustment to the ps-controllers. I had a ps1 and ps2, so maybe that's why I adapted fast to it.
Only I think that Ps3 and Xbox360 are more something for gamers rahter then for casual-gamers.
That's also the reason I'm thinking of buying a Wii. The Zelda game, brawl and the upcoming The Force Unleashed( a star wars game) are attracting to me.

I own both, along with having Live on the Xbox. I'm selling the 360 on Craigslist, does that answer the all powerful question?
I used to think the 360 was the god and future of video games until about a month after Halo 3 came out. It just didn't have the depth and awesomeness I would expect from a game. The PS3 exclusives are better, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Warhawk, and many more.
On top of that, the PS3 has browser capabilities, I can copy movies from my computer to my HD, free Wifi, and there's no red lights because of Microsoft's tendency to make bad hardware (anyone have a Zune go bad lately? I know I have).

It seems the more similar a games console and it's games get, the more heated the debate about which is better. Wii is clearly the winner in this
Cause you can't do that on the PS3 for free. :indiff:
I'm not a fucking idiot. I thought it was pretty obvious that my friends had an Xbox aswell.. You tell me how to play with them from a PS3, and I'll listen.

Yes, but that's an awfully specific reason for an X360 vs PS3 thread

It does touch on the larger point that X360s are much more widely played online, even if Live isn't free.

Thats because Xbox Live had like a 5 year head start.

So if the PS3 was more widely used it would be a better console? What?

No, he just said that the psn community would be bigger if it was released prior to the Xbox. He never said anything about a better console.

Xbox purposefully released their console first, to get the jump on PS3. There was no way PSN could of been released before it.
And even if it was released earlier, it still wouldn't of come close to Live. PS3 is more of the solo gaming console, in the way it doesn't focus on online play. PS2 was the same way. The 360 was made for online play, and Live is one of the major reasons people bought the console.

But live dates back to the original Xbox. So it had a way big advantage. It wasnt necessarily that the PS2 was designed for solo gaming. It was just that online gaming in consoles was virtually nonexistent before Xbox. The only real reason Live is more popular than PSN is because it 1. Has a more developed community and 2. Has more content. Both of which are due to its head start.
But Sony does have some tricks up its sleeve. Home will be a good boost to it. And the recent launch of the video store should bring PSN up to par with live.

I agree. Xbox Live was there first, and online was not the thing back then. Nintendo didn't have it either, right? I mean, even Halo was not online yet...

Yeah you can do online for free on the ps3 but it doesn't come close to xbox live. PS3 is a more serious gaming system for serious gamers and the xbox is for more casual gamers.

Well yeah, because there'd be more people playing online and you'd be able to lend games n shit off your mates. You can never do that with a PS3, because there's only ever like one guy who's got one, an nobody wants to play with him cos he's a lonely cunt who spends crazy money on games.

I heard rumors (word of mouth) from a couple of geeks at the local game store that some nerds on the east coast wrote an emulator for Fedora, the PS3 operating system, that lets their PS3 play 360 games. It's possible, since the PS3 can read DVD9 but I don't know how Xbox Live would work for that matter. Probably wont.

Doesn't the x-box read games counter-clockwise?
(making it impossible?)

It reads it from the outside to inside rather than inside-to-out (correct me if I mixed that out).

Nintendo still doesn't have it. That crap thing called WFC doesn't deserve to be called 'online'.
