View Full Version : So my 360 starts hissing at me...

A couple of days ago me and a friend were playing some Half-Life 2 on the Orange Box for the 360. During a loading time, he slightly moved the 360 and it started making this noise. Not like an error noise you hear from a computer, it was more of a hissing, grinding one. So I restart my 360, and I noticed some character models are really glitched up, and it looks like rebel with blue jump suits are made out of confetti and rebels in uniform have this changing confetti camo depending on how far away I am (oddly, the women are perfectly fine). Also, medpacs and certain crates are made up of the glitched confetti. There are also some glitches in TF2, such certain classes like the Medic and Sniper being made out of said clothing of confetti. The game is still perfectly playable, though, everything looks normal (although hilarious) but I was wondering: should I be worried? Like is this a signaling for the Red Ring of Death to come? Or is it probably just my disc?

Sounds like you may have scratched the disc to me. Or possibly damaged it when your mate moved the xbox.

I accidentally lifted my 360 while trying to plug in one of the cables and it make a horrific grinding sound. Guitar Hero 3 no longer works. I haven't had the red ring of death. I guess it would depend on how scratched the disk is cause mine was pretty fucked up.

Yea you scratched your disc. If you try to move the 360 when its running a game the disc wobbles and gets scratched up pretty bad.

When did you buy your 360? Has this problem been fixed?

No it hasn't been fixed because its not really a problem. Almost any kind of dvd player will do this since its because your moving the system when its running.

A small percentage XBox 360's have mistakenly been shipped with Copperhead snakes installed in lieu of hard drives used for storage on the gaming platform. Several courses of action have included self-removal of said reptile, assistance by a professional animal handler or local police, and easiest though most time-consuming, simply waiting until the snake dies.

I had the same problem recently, me and my friends were having a LAN playing some Halo 3 when we all decided to see if we could fit our dicks in the CD slot. The Xbox began to "hiss" and I can understand why. Just keep your penis in your pants and you should be fine.

Mine didn't hiss, but apparently when I moved the console (which I'm pretty sure I didn't), I got Laser Burn on my disk. This is when the console is reading the disc, the laser moves out of position slightly the laser burns the disc. Check your disc carefully, my damage was hardly noticeable. Most games stores carry disk repair facilites now for a small charge. The hissing could just be caused my the console struggling to read the disc.

I managed to do this with my PS2 and GTA San Andreas, it seems like a pretty common problem for consoles and whatnot with disc trays rather than the older style system ( Like in PS1s or Gamecubes ) where the disc locked in place.

I would assume the hissing may have been the disc moving out of the tray and spinning.

My XBOX doesn't work unless I hear a massive whirring noise like louder than the actual game, god my 360 is fucked.

Yeah, 360's have that problem. If you move it while it's loading, you risk laser-burning or scratching. If your 360 happens to be standing upright, and you accidentally knock it over pretty hard, it will make chainsaw noises and permanently kill your disc:

Best not to touch it. I read some people get slight whirring and mild scratches when the system is vertical to the ground and lying it down fixes all problems.

This is possible with all 360's, but the Halo Edition is the worst. If you have it on the floor, and someone jumps near it, it'll knock the disk out of the tray. And it sounds like a pissed off cat stuck in the machine.

First game I got for the 360: Devil May Cry 4.
I was decidin which way up to have it, and now I have one less game.
I'm so pissed off that I can't play it.
So yeah, it's just cos you tilted it while the disc was spinning. Pretty dumb idea when you think about it.
