What's up with these rumors on a remake for the PS3? They've been flying around since 2005.
Square Enix has remade the opening scene using updated graphics, though it's a tech demo. I think they might be up to something there since it's a company well known for keeping secrets and having almost no public voice.

They might be just rumors, but they simply can't deny the fact that people want it! This is a game that definitely needs to be remade.
Let me just say that the box art is obviously fake. All the pictures on the back are from Advent Children. :fmita:
I've only really played this game once, though. I think it was when I was 10 or something and I had no idea what the hell was going on. Maybe playing this version will clear things up for me or something. It has potential.
I doubt they will, even Square wants to push forward instead of remaking the past.
Plus they already gave us Advent Children and Crisis Core.
I can see a DS(or w/e) remake someday though.

There was the same thing going around when they did the Final Fantasy 8 tech demo for the PS2. As much as I would love to see FF7 remade, I don't think it is going to happen.
Seeing how many remakes and spinoffs Square-Enix made, on FFVII alone, I'll be surprised if they didn't milk FFVII for the last (maybe) time.

Hahahahah.
You know what's hillarious? That video is the ending of Crisis Core.

Ah, thanks for spoiling the game then, Bainge.

Crisis Core. The prequel on PSP I assume. That would make sense, but you're positive that it's a PS3 tech demo and not rendered using the PSP hardware?

Cloud actually says something in the real ending. And thats not even the real ending, so it's not that much of a spoiler >_>
Crisis Core was better than 7 in about a hundred different ways. I wouldn't want a PS3 remake, but portable would be awesome. I've been forcing myself to play the original on PSP because Crisis Core was so awesome and I want the whole story and crap, but its hard because it hasn't aged well -_-
They won't remake it anytime soon, but I reckon somewhere done the track. I-XI has been remade how many times?

I also wish Square would stop milking Final Fantasy VII so much, and start milking Final Fantasy X some more. Sure, Final Fantasy X-2 was pretty much shit. But Jesus I wanna know more about X's universe and backstory (especially Kimhari's and Auron's).
I read somewhere that although a remake has not been confirmed it has not been denied either. All they said was that it is a possibility but not at the moment because the majority of the FF7 team is split up and working on different projects. It would be great if they could do it though and if they want to milk it, go right away and milk away!!

There have been countless remakes and rereleases of 4 and 6, so it's just a matter of time before they do it to 7. Possibly when the PS1 version simply cannot be played on current generation consoles.

Instead of a Ps3 remake, I'd like a patch to make the Ps3 play the original Ps1 FF7. I'm yet to experience what everyone is going on about. I'm really surprised that Sony haven't sorted this out yet, the biggest selling game to come out of their franchise and they're abandoning it?
It would be nice to be able to play the original on PS3, maybe they could release a classics series or something. I reckon it would be better if it was a remake though purely because the graphics are now very dated. It is still playable though, considering the fact that I am currently about halfway through it (again) as I still have my PS1 and all my games. Only thing that concerns me is that they would have to remake the game and still retain most of the original, only make it look and sound better. The music in FF7 is very important and needs to be improved on but not changed. Also all locations need to be made visually pleasing but for those who played the original it must be easily recognisable from the original.

Sony didn't make FF7, Square Enix did. All PS3's can play PS1 games just fine. No patch required. It just needs to be manually set to 480i NTFS and 4:3. That's never been a problem. Here's a real challenge: can you get your hands on the game? They sell for $100+ on eBay.

I have 2 of these. I had the NTSC and PAL PS1 so I bought the NTSC version and permanently borrowed the PAL version from a friend ( that was easily 8 years ago so I reckon it is mine now). Do they really sell for so much on Ebay? For a PS1 title that is crazy, no matter how good the game is.

It does. Kind of insane. A shoddy one with a beat up case and so-so discs average around $70. Ones in mint condition go for up to $200 and brand new ones with the factory seal can sell for $350 or more. This is the original version of course. Greatest hits editions sell for a bit less. It's a game that most people would want to replay, and everyone wants to keep, so the demand has gone up, along with the value.

Yeah I'll steal my mate's copy. We tried it many a time and it keeps crashing on the intro video. Will, what you recomend remedy that? Also, would that same trick get FF8 working too?

You could try a disc scratch remover. If that doesn't work, then you can just buy whatever disc doesn't work. I think the discs go for like $30 each on ebay. Haha.
That trick works for all PS1 games. It's not required to do 480i and 4:3, but unless you want the game to be stretched and skewed to blocks of shit, I recommend you do.

If you're lucky, you can find a copy of FFVII (or even FFVIII) at a car boot sale for dirt cheap. Now that's a bargain hunt [/dickinson]
It's fair to say that a lot of people want this game to be remade. Square Enix could even make a petition and thousands (if not millions) would sign it demanding a remake. There's a lot of money to be made there.
I'd also pay good money to play FFVII on my PSP. The other FFs would be sweet too.
On the topic of disc repair, a few game shops and Blockbusters have a disc fixing machine. Shouldn't cost more than a quid/buck.

If you're refering to my 'crashing on the intro' problem then it is certainly not the disc, it works fine one 2 different Ps2s, but crashes on both 40 and 60GB Ps3s we tested

I don't know what you guys are talkin about, I'm lookin at it on ebay now for like £8.
WOAH- Checkin out the American ebay, you guys sure do pay alot for PS1 games.
Seriously though, do you want to see a HD Cloud dressed as a lady, then have to fight his way out of a gangrape? This game's all kind of dumb when you start to think about it.
Riding a dolphin around an electricity pilon, then jumping it like 50 feet in the air- With today's graphics? It'd just look dumb.
Talking dog. Standing on two legs. Disguised as a sailor.
Not only that, but it happens to be a pretty successful disguise.

Hmm... I have no idea. Try updating the console software?

Do any other PS1 games work on your PS3? I recently played FF9 on mine ( 60GB ) and didn't even have to change any settings for it to work.

There are petitions out there, google final fantasy 7 petition and start signing away on all of them like I did!

FF8 crashes before the "Playstation" logo at the start, and FF7 crashes on the intro video. Any other Ps1 game I tried works fine. We've tried this on both my 60GB and my buddie's 40GB. I'm in England so I have a PAL console, that might make a difference.

I'm in Ireland so I'm PAL too. I'll look for my copy of FF7 and see if the same thing happens to me.
EDIT: Found it and it seems to be working fine. Fought the first couple of battles no problem.

Must be the disc then. No worries, thanks for all y'all help. I guess I'll just have to get a copy somewhere else. I really want to play it on Ps3 because then I can Remote-Play it on PSP.
Also, can someone test out a copy of ff8 f me? I've tried 2 different copies of it on separate PS3s

Yes, pop any Ps1 game into your Ps3 then switch to remote play, and you can play any game wirelessly via PSP. I discovered this with Tony Hawk Pro Skater, theres a slight amount of lag in the controls, but that shouldn't matter with an RPG

Ah, thanks for spoiling the game then, Bainge.
Really isn't spoiling much when it's just the opening scene of FF7 re-done with better CGI.
