Well, the monotony of summer has finally gotten to me, and I need something to do. Does anyone know a good quality, free RPG that I can play during my free time? Don't suggest Runescape. That was only kind of fun back in 2003 :indiff:
I've already played Ragnarok, Dragon Raja, Gunbound, and Gunz, flyff, and several others not worth remembering. Only Gunbound and Ragnarok held my attention, but Ragnarok was boring because it consisted of nothing except getting killed by maxed out players 24/7, and repetive grinding in the same areas over and over to get your level up.
Also, I don't have an Über computer so don't suggest anything that has crazy high graphics.

I remember playing this a LONG time ago, and I had no fucking idea what was going on since I was a pre-teen. Apparently it's free now, although you can pay for more features: http://www.astonia.com/
It's pretty much like Diablo or something (which I never played). I'm sure you'll at the very least get a good few hours.

Looks a lot like Dragon Raja, just with a different camera angle. Probably made by the same people.

Dragon Raja (http://www.3000fr.com/forum/3000-img-foru/scr_games/dragon_raja/dragon-raja.jpg)
I'll look into it some more though, anything's better than coming home and not having anything to do.
EDIT: Planeshift looks like it might be good, like a free version knock-off of WoW. The last time I played a game with graphics like that though, I would lag horrendously any time I went to heavily populated town.

I played AruaROSE (http://www.aruarose.com/index.php?act=downloads) a little bit over the summer. I remember playing the Beta version of this game a few years ago and quite when they started charging you to play, but apparently they made some private free servers. The only problem with it that I found was that it's one of those games where you can buy some things with real money that you can't get in the game. But as far as I know the things you can buy fulfill only aesthetic purposes.

Minions of Mirth is kind of decently entertaining... Okay no it isn't, but you can fly and control where you go.

I've tried looking for good, free MMOs but the games always disappoint. Hence I've given in and bought a subscription to WoW. But if you want to "try" a game, feel free to "try" www.tibia.com although it costs money to be able to do the fun stuff ^^

There is a free trial for EVE online, I know you have to pay after but geez so expensive hey! Anyway, 14 days should be long enough to see if it is worth it. It's very different and in space!
Or Maplestory...

EvE probably requires the highest graphics capabilities of all MMOs (I could be mistaken) and he said his computer isn't the greatest.

I knew this thread was going to end up with everyone telling me to play WoW. I've tried it before, and while it is kind of fun, I couldn't get into it enough to want to pay for it, and I really tried because one of my friends kept tellling me how great it is.
Oh well, I guess I could always go back to playing FPS games.
EDIT: Minions of Mirth looks promising, and I'll probably download it. There's no way in hell my computer could run Eve Though.

There's one that you can try called Rappelz (http://rappelz.gpotato.com/). It looks a lot like the other ones out there like Knight Online but this one is a bit better and the people on it are supposedly very nice. It takes a 1.7gb download though last time i played it.

Perfect World.
Pretty damn good for a free mmorpg. A lot of the people on vent played for a bit, we even had our own guild. Pretty much a shittier version of WoW, but still fun.

That was fun, I was addicted to it for a day or two. I actually spent money in it for in-game items and stuff. It's probably only fun with friends though, soloing would be boring.

Not true. You can actually play EVE-Online with an 'okay' computer. But if you have a good computer you can upgrade to the premium graphics option and such. It really doesn't require that much strain on your computer if you turn off some of the visuals.
I wouldn't recommend EVE if you're the casual gamer. It has a big learning curve and has a deep background story. But I personally love it, and it's not that expensive. (But this thread is created for FREE MMOs anway, but I'd definitely try the trial out.)

Anarchy Online is free for the most basic version, but even on that you can have loads of fun as long as you make sure to buy items you don't need a subscribtion for. It is rather complicated, but I personally think it is worth it.
Another good game I found is called AirRivals, but only if you really like flight sims. You essentially fly a customisable futuristic hover-jet called a gear. Whats really nice is that this game requires skill as well as good gear. A noob with good flying skills and crap gear could theoretically beat a high level player with awesome gear but terrible flight skills. The missions also are a great help, even if they are "Kill X monster, return with Y amount of Z" they take away a lot of the grinding in earlier levels by giving you good XP.

There was decent one I played a while back called "Lunia". It was still in the Open Beta stage when I last played, so some of my info might out of date, but you pick a class (When I played they were Knight, Mage, Thief, and Healer, but I think they added more.) and then you go into a town. The town is where you buy stuff, and get quests; all of the boring stuff basically. Then, when you want to go kill something, it takes you a stage, and you run around killing monsters in an action game kinda thing, where you control your character with the keyboard instead of just clicking like in most games. It's probably gotten better since I played it last. You should check it out.

I used to play silkroad online, it was fun for a while playing with friends, but the quests are tedious, monotonous and boring, it's just grinding mobs there's nothing special about it. Though once you reach a respectable level, have understood the mechanics of the game and wear your thief/hunter/merchant outfit, it becomes fun. This game is pvp based, mobs are only there to provide leveling and sometimes loot, but the main objective is to steal from merchants and kill hunters (if you're a thief) kill thieves and defend merchants (if you're a hunter) or make money by trading between cities (if you're a merchant). You can switch roles, you can be a thief hunter or merchant at any time of the day (though there's wait time when you remove one outfit).

Maplestory is actually pretty okay. Sure, levelling is as slow as anything, but the graphics are cutesy and the game provides a decent challenge.
Mind you, I gave up on my level 30/40 (can't remember which) Fighter. Like all MMOs, it's really much better with other people.
Does anyone know if Gunbound is still popular nowadays? Last time I went on for a casual look, it was pretty much deserted.

I was in a net cafe once and saw these 8 year old kids playing it, so I guessed there are still some people that play it. I never liked it anyway, I personally preferred WORMS!

I suggest ArchLord. (http://www.archlordgame.com/)
It's kind of like WoW or Perfect World. But I kind of like it better. Mainly because of the Orc and Moon-Elf classes. Orcs can have badass 'hero' armor. and Moon-Elves are just too cute. In-Game it seems a little buggy now and then, and there's supposed to be a new free expansion soon. One thing I don't like is that the resolution doesn't go up to 1440X900. But it still looks great, to me.

RF-Online (http://www.rf-onlinegame.com/) is nice free MMO by Codemasters, who are getting into MMOs more seriously, as they recently announced. It reminds me a lot of WoW, but most mmos do.
Oh and you should pick the robots race, if you decide to play it.

It's a zombie MMO that's still in beta but is planned to be fully released in September. It's not hard on the computer either. It's pretty fun as is though. Check it out if you're still curious.
Perfect world is like a better Rappelz. It's really awesome especially since it's free, but the english is fucking horrible. Description of burn status is something like: "continue the damage of fire system". It'd be cool to hop back on if people from here played.
Admittedly, I do think MapleStory is fun. You're kind of gay if you play it, and you do have to fork over a shit load of money for the pay-for-cool-items system though. I've been kind of on and off it since it came out like 3 years ago. :indiff:

I tried and died right away the zombies take about 20 bullets to kill them. Maybe its just me but the game seems a little unrealistic.

I've played maplestory for a few years with a few of my friends. It's fun as hell at first because everything is brand new and you can experience a new adventure every day. then when you get high leveled you realize that it's just another generic korean anime-themed mmorpg grindfest. but, they have added a lot of new stuff since I joined and I got back into it and its actually even more fun now. so I have to respect how they keep trying to make the game better and more fun.

Another criticism of Maplestory I had was the lack of choice in gear. There's, generally, one full set every 5 levels. If you don't like it, tough.
The only real customization is only cosmetic and costs real people money. So bother that nonsense.
I'll eventually get into it again, though. It's inevitable.

You can "play" any game with almost any type of computer that isn't more than 5 years old (or a shitty apple) but it's not even worth playing EvE unless you have at least 1 GB Ram, 128mb Dedicated VRAM and Pent 4+. Even then you still experience shitty fps etc. I'd imagine it'd be really fun if you had unlimited time/money to waste.

I highly reccomend Guild Wars. One of cost of for the installation and account then no subscriptions at all. The great thing about GW is the really low level cap. You can easily get to it in about 1 month very casually playing so no level grinding at all. This means that from that point on everything is based on your own skill at the game not the amount of time invested in it. PvP is also very easy to get into but for top level stuff you need to be very good at playing.
Even with the low level cap character progression and custimisation is still very important giving players alot of freewill. The storylines are alos quite good (well as good as an RPG-MMO can get)

I don't know what you're questioning. Most Macs have game deficiencies and even most of the earlier models (even 6 months ago) don't have the graphics capabilities to handle a game like EvE online... pretty simple I thought.
