Looks like someone has put Harry Potter and Mario in a blender.
The hand-drawn style looks quite nice. How's the gameplay? Is it like a simple platformer?

Partly.
Its alot like Mario when you first play it, run around jumping on the little brown guys, but with some fun features like the ability to hold X to rewind time when you die / fall of a platform. It eventually get's trickier, as in the Trial there were level's where moving right advanced time, standing still paused it and moving left rewinded it, producing some interesting levels to say the least.
I loved the trial, in no small part due to the art, and im making a note to buy it as soon as I get some money.
Braid is played by solving physical puzzles in a somewhat standard platform game environment like Super Mario Bros. with jumping and enemies. The main innovation is the player's ability to reverse time and "rewind" one's actions, even after dying. The game is divided into seven worlds, including an overworld in the form of the main character's house. The worlds are entered through doors in the house. Each world has its own time-based gimmick such as objects that don't rewind with the rest of the universe or "ghosts" of the players previous actions that appear after rewinding, resulting in complicated puzzles. Each stage contains puzzle pieces that must be collected to create images that tell the story, as well as to unlock the last stage.
I usually hate puzzlegames, but holy fuck this is fun. The challenges are so ingenious and it's very rewarding when you finally figure them out.

I was gonna buy this, I had like 2600 points to get this, Bionic Commando n Castle Crashers.
I thought it'd be 800, but now it's 1200 an that's threw a spanner in the plan :/
I played the demo and it was pretty fuckin ingenious/fabulous. Especially the GO RIGHT TO PLAY GO LEFT TO REWIND thing. God knows how you design a puzzle like that.

Shit, this game is fucking awesome. It can be pretty complicated and there are some pieces that seem impossible to get. I hope I'll have enough points soon to but this

I've got it downloading now, but I was wondering, when you rewind, does it reset any parts of the puzzle that you might have upset or moved, or does your little guy simply fly back along his previous path?

Fiddle around with it. The rewind can go as far back as you want till you start in that level.
On one part, I had to rewind it all completely but at this one spot where I don't go back in time in order to finish this one puzzle.
It's freaking ingenious.

I'm capped for a couple more days, but I am considering downloading this.

Things that glow green aren't effected by the rewind.

I bought it! It can be tough as fuck. I'm at world 4 with the rewinding stuff, and it's hard. I love it.

I got the trial and I'm not sure how to get the puzzle pieces above doors. There's nowhere to jump onto to reach it.

Beat this game last night, after about 7 hours of gameplay. A little expensive for how short it is, but I must say that it's the most engrossing 7 hours I've spent since I got my 360.
Puzzles are brilliant, there were 2 in particular that really irritated me (one each in worlds 5 and 6) but I was able to get it eventually, and every puzzle is simple enough that you think 'Damn, why didnt I think of that sooner' if you spend more than 5 minutes on anything.
About the story:
It's also a metaphor for the construction and detonation of the first nuclear bomb

Who here has discovered any of the stars yet...
..without the help of Youtube or GameFAQs? :indiff:
At first, getting them was a pain in the ass because you had to restart the game or wait 2 hours for the cloud to go by but then some people say that's an insight about gamers today. Nice to know that even when having to start the game over again, it makes you think.

Just purchased and finished Braid in the span of about 3 hours. Also, can someone please explain to me what the fuck just happened? I understand what Iiro said, but on a less metaphorical level, I only get bits and pieces. So far as I can tell, this guy left his wife to hunt down a princess, who it turns out he is actually stalking, and in the end she is saved from him by some big viking looking motherfucker. I found the hidden books at the end and pieced together that he was abusive to his girlfriend beforehand due to his obsession, or something? I don't fucking get it. :wail:

When you get the first 7 stars, two levers in the last/first level have the green aura over them, so they're not affected by the rewind. So you activate them, rewind and the princess goes a bit further. This lets you jump onto the broken chandelier as it goes back up. Once it does so, the princess goes all glitchy and a white explosion happens. Some people say that no matter how hard you try, the princess isn't real.
Also, the constellation when you collect all the hidden stars is the Andromeda constellation at a certain angle, which represents a chained princess or a princess free from her chains, which probably represents Tim's obsession with the princess or his partner's suffering from Tim's obsession.
Braid has one deep story.

I think I wasted my 1200 on this game. My brain isn't too smart to handle this shit. About the viking thing. All I got was to when the dino said 'Are you sure she even exists?'. What do I do then? D:

If anyone is interested, these is a very detailed and (as far as anyone knows yet) accurate recounting and synopsis of the plot at this link. (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/file/943284/53842) Be warned that if you haven't beaten the game yet this will ruin the entire storyline for you, and even if you have beaten it and want to figure out all the intricacies yourself, don't go there. There's still a few secrets yet to be found out, too.

IMO it's a story about Tim's youth and his relationship with his mother, him stalking some girl (or trying desperately to find some perfect soul mate and then realizing that it never existed in the first place) and finally about his obsession with building an atomic bomb. The overworld looks like a city that has been nuked.
"On that moment hung eternity. Time stood still. Space contracted to a pinpoint. It was as though the earth had opened and the skies split. One felt as though he had been privileged to witness the Birth of the World…"
"She stood tall and majestic. She radiated fury. She shouted: “Who has disturbed me?” But then, anger expelled, she felt the sadness beneath; she let her breath fall softly, like a sigh, like ashes floating gently on the wind.
She couldn’t understand why he chose to flirt so closely with the death of the world."

Actually, he was never trying to stalk a girl or find a soulmate, that whole part is a metaphor for the bomb. His entire life got wrapped up in creating the bomb, yet he had so much trouble creating it because a huge weapon with the capability to destroy EVERYTHING was never meant to be created. It ate his life away.

Yeah, world 4 was a mindfuck.
I agree, 200 years from now philosophers will sit back and wonder whether anyone ever passed it with their sanity in tact.
And yes the game is very good. Its hand-drawn and slightly kiddish graphics might fool you for a bit, but it really is a good game.
I especially like when the dinosaur says the princess is in another castle (Super Mario? :P)
Hate to revive an somewhat old thread, but instead of making a new one, i figured I'd post in here.
Last night I got the trial of Braid and quiet enjoyed how genius it is as far as gameplay is concerned with the rewind and whatnot. Then I bought the full thing and though I'm not too far, its really crazy. I read up on it and the cloud that is moving to the left, but just VERY slowly. I was like, 'holy shit'.
The guy Jonathan Blow is really genius to making it, and the story behind it all is something else, I mean, the whole metaphor behind it, whichever one is true or not. All theories work regardless and just make it mind-boggling.
I will say this, here's one person who completely understand what Braid is all about.

For the record, Jonathon Blow officially confirmed the 'Nuclear' metaphor is the true one. To those of you who know which one that is.
