This hands down is the best site I have found to show you how to Run vista the way you want it, Improve system performance and I cant even begin to tell you how much i love these tips.
They do play around in registry and I have tried and got most of these to work and my computer remains stable so they aren't trying to ruin your computer.
If you have Vista I absolutely recommend this
This is not my site, this is a site i found spending quite a bit of time trying to find
Enjoy

Any sites like this for xp ?
Somebody good at computers tell me if this shit is safe or not so I don't make my computer explode.

It's safe Shmuh, but only if you know what you are doing. Don't mess with your registry if you don't know what you are doing, or else you could fuck something up big time, without knowing how to fix it.

I could look for a xp equivalent site, but xp is out of my life so its going to be the last of my priorities. I dont think vista is that bad, I have had no problems with it. You just have to have a half decent computer, I'm running 3gb ram , 2.2ghz dual core, and a 8600gtx so I guess I have a little easier time that other people would. But that site works good.

Reposting this for emphasis. You can cost yourself hundreds of dollars if you randomly fuck around with this stuff.

It's usually 100% safe until you touch the BIOS. As long as you can restore Windows, you're good. The BIOS though, if that gets fucked your comp is toast (from experience).

Is your seat comfortable on the bias bandwagon?
Yeah actually, my mom decided to fuck with the BIOS on my new computer and she fucked them up. FORTUNATELY my computer was just a lot slower, and she didn't fry it or anything. She bought so BIOS off of this one site or something (i don't know) and now it works fine. Don't ask me why she was fucking with the BIOS.

...why would she buy a bios?
...why would she buy a bios?
Because she broke the old one?

The BIOS is generally attached to the motherboard, that would be why it's a strange thing to say "My mum bought a new bios".

I'm a total computer noob(hardware-wise) and I was thinking that BIOS could mean like a chip or flash drive kind of thing. Sorry if I was wrong and look like a total idiot.

Well, I'm not very good at hardware either. But look at a motherboard and you usually see a little chip labelled "BIOS".
Also, will someone explain how ReadyBoost on Vista ACTUALLY works?

ReadyBoost works by using a flash drive as a RAM stick. It writes information and reads information from the flash drive as if it was a stick of RAM (granted not as quickly though).

I can imagine my flash drive would die pretty quickly too from use of it. Much the way hard drives die quicker if you don't have enough RAM.
There is a lesson here - At least 2GB of RAM in Vista Premium (especially if you want to run Aero) so that it uses the RAM instead of using the hard drive, because they have a shorter life span if the computer is constantly using the hard drive as RAM.

I ran Vista Ultimate on my PC with 512mb of RAM. It actually didn't do too bad. But the terrible file operations and poor gaming caused me to go back to XP.

Well shit dude, they recommend 2gb of RAM to run Vista. No wonder you had a shitty experience with it. Also if your computer only has 512mb of RAM its time for a new computer

I wouldn't even touch Vista Basic with 512MB of RAM. It's silly that they sell computers with Vista basic and 256/512MB of RAM

I'm running Vista on 1GB ram (going to upgrade to 2GB in about a week) and gaming/file operations works just as well as it ever did for me on XP.
All I did was turn off UAC (user account control) and turn off all of those pesky notifications. The only problem I still dislike about vista is the incompatibility with certain drivers. For instance my wireless adapter driver firmware doesn't work with vista (It's a D-Link go figure right) so I have to unplug/replug it every time I restart.
Fun.

I just want a new shell program. I hate the way Vista looks. In fact, I hate the way most Windows look. XP was too bubbly and gay, and now Vista is all round and shit. I use blackbox at the moment, but I want something I can easily figure out how to get a fucking background for. What the fuck, blackbox?
Any ideas, people?

TBH I couldn't care less what my computer looked like I usually just end up putting the default theme on (from windows 95), its still does the same stuff and my computer now runs much better.
