As your average music-loving, CD spinnin' joseph, I like to think that I have a half decent opinion on the difference between good music and horse bile. Frame of reference; I love collecting CDs. Sometimes I just buy one on a whim, not knowing who the band really is. Theres no finer hobby than spending £14 on a piece of plastic, only to find out that its actually a piece of hog shit (imagine my delight when I bought Metallica's St Anger, in that case). I have hundreds of albums; some I like, some I’m not so keen on, but hey, there’s something for everyone in there. I try to keep an open mind as far as music goes- if I’m not personally keen on it, then that doesn’t mean it sucks. Horses for courses, no?
With that fresh in mind, rare is it that a band comes along who will make my blood genuinely boil. I may sneer at some of the more hack acts out there, but rare is a band so hatefully woeful that they make me want to hack off my ears with plastic spoons and feed them to a gaggle of rabid ducks. So naive was I that finally a band has come along to rewrite every notion I ever had about how all music has at least some value. Folks, meet Aiden;

So, first impressions then. We've got a goth band who want you to think that they're dark and mysterious. I dunno what comes into your head when you first see this picture, but I'm pretty sure its not "dark" and "mysterious." In fact judging by this photo, I'd wager the only thing dark and mysterious about Aiden is their basement full of starving eight year old boys. And aren't they ugly? I thought most poseur bands of this kind at least had the looks to appeal to grotty teenage girls who dress like Tim Burton, but these guys actually look like they haven't bathed in weeks. Or at least if they have they've been bathing in old man's ball vinegar.
Get a wash lads, seriously. At least wash your hair, or buy some deoderant. Noone wants to listen to your music when you smell like a shark's vagina. And what about the two particularly horrendous looking guys at either side of the frontman? Lets look at that photo again;

Who hires people that look like this, seriously? Hands up if you think that these guys look cool. No? Obviously someone down at Victory Records thought they were a great addition to the Aiden image. I guess they were trying to corner the fat, sweaty and pasty market. Why so smug looking, you fat idiots? Die Romantic? More like Pie Romantic, amirite?
So these two guys are immediately hateful simply because of their ghastly features, but they're nothing compared to the singer. His name is Wil Francis, and he's the human equivalent of getting your fingers slammed in a car door. Observe:

If Robert Smith took a shit, then picked off some of his pubes, combed them and put them on it, it'd look like Wil. I bet mummy and daddy are proud. Imagine this sitting at the end of your dinner table, scrutinising your cooking. This guy is 26 years old. Grow up dude. You're not some sort of creepy scarecrow, you're a fully grown adult. Wil also has a horrendous line in singing, with a grade eight in out-of-key whinings and a general tendency to act like he's some sort of spooky spiritual force onstage. Last time I checked, singing ability wasn't foregone to try and act all creepy. If all bands used Aiden's logic in hiring vocalists Jeffrey Dahmer would've been a member of Led Zeppelin.
I know what you're thinking by now. "But Daev!1 Daev!! What about the music?! You're just focusing on their image. Talk about their music, you shallow fool." Ah yes, the music. You'd think an image as 'extravagant' as Aiden's would warrant some pretty shredding music to back it up. Sadly Aiden seem eager to prove themselves as shitty at writing music as they are at looking in the mirror. Not only do the recordings sound like muffled crap, but their music is horribly uninspired, awfully played and woefully structured. Sounds enticing eh? Lets break it down; time to take a look at some of Aiden's singles releases. Follow me cautiously kids!

Die Romantic (2005)
Die Romantic is a song taken from Aiden's 2005 second album (which means they should've known better), Nightmare Anatomy. Alarm bells start ringing as soon as you discover the title of this song, but they're nowhere near as loud as the sound of your ears screaming for mercy as the opening bars of this song kick in. The video accompanying the song introduces us to some junkie dude lying in the street whilst uninspired metalcore riffs penetrate your hearing hole like a swordfish's boner. Now, most people just ignore the homeless when passing them in the street, but not our Wil;

Wil Francis from Aiden is the last thing you need to wake up to when you have a killer hangover. I don't care if this video is completely acted or not, no human being- real or make-believe- should have to suffer this kind of mental torture. Wil seems more than content to annoy, touch and gibber incessently at this unfortunate soul whilst flashes of kewl goff imagery such as bats and churches flicker by. Oooh, spooky biscuits! But wheres the rest of the band?

Aahh, there they are, jamming their inane shit in differing locales around the church. And whats that in the second picture there? I thought skeletons had no flesh, but thats the fattest skeleton I've ever seen. Awful Misfits rip-offs in both image and songwriting style abound in this video, except devoid of any charisma or sense of creativity. If Glenn Danzig were dead he'd be breakdancing in his grave right now, and probably pretty surprised about being able to do it too.
Sadly the video never really changes from here (minus a couple of visual references to self-harm and anorexia- just so gothic), with Wil jabbering nonsense and annoying other people for the next agonising two and a half minutes. Guitar and drums stumble into each awful metalcore cliché like a rhino with inflatable legs, but Wil's jabbering really hammers the final nail into this Aiden-shaped coffin. Check out these lyrics:

"Your eyes went cold and all." Seriously, what the fuck? Wil might as well throw a line like "and then you died n' shit" in there as well. The lyrics are this fucking atrocious, I swear to God. I could hardly believe my ears. And as if this wasn't bad enough, Wil sings the lyrics as if he'd just written them on the morning of the recording and decided to completely ad-lib them to make them fit in. He stutters and babbles through the verses like one of those kids back in school who never quite knew when to stop talking at you about nothing whilst being oblivious to the fact that they're weirding you out a little. You know what I mean. Add to that the fact that Wil sounds like he's harbouring a 500lb snotter up his nose and you have his vocal style in a nutshell. People have paid money to listen to this on a CD. Lets us move on quickly to a more recent single...

Lets see if Aiden have learnt anything one year on. I don't want to get too detailed into this one since the video isn't all that interesting, other than Aiden have now morphed into AFI;

On a serious note though, these guys have actually raped AFI's music down to the ground with We Sleep Forever. Specifically they've ripped off a song from AFI's 2003 album Sing The Sorrow called Girls Not Grey. Don't believe me? Compare these two songs;

Same half-time intro, same beat on the verse with a standalone bass
and same dopey crowd woahs on the chorus. Aiden never did this in any of their previous stuff. These hacks can't even write their own music, so instead seek to change their music just to fit in with whatever fad they seem to think is popular at the time. Great job boys, how do these fuckers even sleep at night? There's kids starving in Africa and these guys get to live the rock and roll lifestyle by practically singing someone else's song! All whilst dressing up and acting like John Wayne Gacy's circlejerk buddy. Oh well, lets see if the lyrics fare any better this time;

This kind of self-harm glamourising rubbish can't be good for people, can it? What the hell does "take this sadness and close your eyes love" even mean? Argh, maybe now you can understand my anguish every time I get a glimpse of these guys. But wait, it gets even worse. Lets take a look at one of their most recent singles, being released only last year.
Actually before we do, I should probably warn you about the huge dip into immense gayness that this article takes with the next video. Seriously, it caught me off guard the first time I saw it on TV, like being smacked in the face with a big fluffy purple pecker. Trust me, this is gayer than a storm cloud raining cocks into your mouth, and just as sore on the teeth. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Want a summation? Aiden are possibly the worst band I have ever heard, definetely the worst band I have ever looked at and probably the worst band I'll ever smell. Thats three senses offended by this band already. Stop encouraging this inept shit by buying into it, people. Please. You're ruining the music industry. If you see or hear anyone endorsing this kind of crap then do them a favour- slice off their ears with a broken Slayer CD and set them on fire. These kids need to stop being exposed to this kind of inane vomit before their brains turn into sawdust.
Boycott bullshit record companies like Victory Records and Fuelled By Ramen (a once respectable outfit) who are spoonfeeding you this snivelling crap. It should also be noted that whilst I mentioned buying CDs on a whim at the start of this article, I have never, ever, ever given a single penny to Aiden for their music. Some lines are there to be crossed, and some lines are there for a very good reason. Just remember that every time you give Aiden money, God sets another baby on fire. Until next time...

Sadly, I've seen them play live a while back at the House of Blues in New Orleans.
I was there mainly to see HIM play...even though I don't really care for them. It was for my dumbass girlfriend at the the time(she is into retarded emo music).

If a person can not play music well, then you can say they are bad at playing music.

Hi, I'm new here, and when i saw this topic, i gotta say i was a tiny bit mad.
Aiden tbh, are my favourite band, and they have helped me out loads. Fine they might not look like the happiest men ever (or in some of your opinions, in One Love they do.), but thats just because of the genre they are. If you were in a band like that, and you dressed like that because it made you happy etc, would you stop for the case of some people who disagree with the message your trying to put across?
I'm taking it you've only heard Die Romantic etc, and yes i agree they arent the happiest songs again, but people like it. If you heard their latest album, Conviction, then you'd actually know what a great band they are.
I saw them earlier this year in April, and it was the 2nd time i'd seen them, and they were absolutely amazing. I saw them April 07' aswell, they were a support band, and i'd never seen the crowd that wound up tbh. They are an amazing band live, and they have amazing lyrics to their songs, and im sure you'd all recognise that if you stopped judging them on their looks and judged them on their music. Like wiL Francis, your blatantly judging him on his looks, when if you actually read interviews etc with him, you'd realise he's a totally different person from how he looks.
and Umbra, 'die hard fans', if someone had slated your favourite band as much as they have with Aiden, i'm sure you'd do the exact same thing as people are doing now.
And now i reckon i'm just gona leave you all with a wiL Francis quote, just so you can actually see that he's not a stupid depressed piece of 'trash', that he's actually a person and one that has influenced so many people, obviously not you lot.

But the first thing which came to my mind when I saw the 4th page was:

I dont know if you play and instrument. But there is no way you can say a band is bad at playing music. and lyrics. why do u you even bother writing about how bad the lyrics are. Some of the best bands are gay R.E.M., Franz Ferdinand.

I absolutely abhor Fall Out Boy. Namely, Pete Wentz and now Ashley Simpson for allowing herself to be impregnanted with his spawn.

Once I started watching the "One Love" video I initially turned my volume up so that I could hear the lyrics and criticize/laugh at them myself, but not long into the video I thought to myself "Oh my god. I can't let anyone hear this or they may think that I actually listen to this music." I then hastily turned the volume down to a barely audible level (which did not help in preventing me from shuddering in revulsion to the audible and visual atrocities this video made me bare witness to) and glanced around nervously to make sure I was alone.
I really thought that you were joking when you said there was a mostly naked black guy in the video, but lo and behold he isn't just seen once but is actually a main theme in the video. I have no problems with gay people but when I see someone/something this flamboyant it's just annoying. Yeah, I get it, you're extremely gay, I don't care. I couldn't help but think of the Crab People from that South Park episode while watching the video.
I have noticed that all the people defending this band have all avoided defending or even acknowledging the part of your rant where you criticize them on copying the song structure of AFI's song. The only reason I can imagine why they haven't is because they can't come up with any argument against it, because you are absolutely right. They are almost EXACTLY the same song, just with different lyrics. I was really quite amazed at how similar they were. The fans must have realized this and so instead of trying to argue against it they have instead chosen to ignore it completely.

I saw Aiden in concert when they opened for H.I.M. here at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale about 2 years ago. I had no idea who they were. I couldn't understand their insane ramblings and the music was just awful. I thought I was the only one who just detested Aiden.
At the time, I noticed that a bunch of the underage girls at this venue were puking. I had just assumed that they were all suffering the nasty fate of doing too many jager shots after sneaking out of their parents house's wearing tragically cliched "goth attire". I am now convinced that the attrocious opening band probably caused the mass puking hysteria.

Amusing article, Dave. I'd never heard of Aiden before, and I can tell you I wish I never had - I almost gagged when I saw the lyric snippets...how much more crap like that IS there in the music industry? How can musically glorifying self-harm do the world ANY good at all? It's disgusting what some losers will do for money...

Aiden is one of those bands that Kerrang! are all too eager to push upon the world with all the verve that having huge amounts of money from record labels calls for. Quality is never a consideration.
Having said that I was watching Kerrang! TV the other week in the hopes of seeing some kind of good music. They had a count down called 'The Fifty Biggest Bands in the World' (or something like that) and I was horrified to see that this Aiden rabble turned up on it - placed higher bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The worst of it is that it was apparently voted for by viewers.

Wow. This is just another gay (and for that last video I really emphesize "gay") Emo/punk band that is so bad that its just hilarious to listen to only to make fun of them. I probably don't hate it as much as Dave does, but its basically the same gayness level as FoB/PATD/Taking Back Sunday. None of their songs that I've heard are good at all. Well, Aiden is the perfect backdrop for a hilarious emo story. I live near a small lake in the middle of town. About 2 years ago I had a friend who was having a really hard time over a breakup, so around 2 AM he couldn't sleep and I told him we should take a walk around the lake, get some air. About halfway around, I saw what looked like a fight happening up in the distance. As we got closer, it turned out that they were emo kids, dressed all in black and plenty'o'makeup, and they were having a slap contest . . . that's right, they were trying to see who could get more slaps to the face on their opponent in a specific amount of time. As we were passing, apparently one of them got bold and closed his fist, to be instantly rebuked by his friends with the "hey, no fists!!1!" I couldn't contain it any longer, and I had to laugh my ass off at the pansies.
2AM, in the park near a lake, slapping each other for fun. Emo's... I don't care if they die romantic, I just hope they die.

in the last probably 6 years there has been nothing but stress in my life. Even more so in the last 5 months. Being a teenager royally blows. I'm 15 now, and i really want to put a bullet through the back of my head. Basically nothing goes right anymore, and im really fucking sick of it. The shit that ive done has always come back and fucked me up. Again and again. Today is no difference. I was dating this chick for about 2 months. Before that, i was kinda with this chick. I broke up with girl #2, and i was trying to get back with girl #1. Things were so much better with her. But i really hurt her. And i can't take that back.
The stress is so fucking much that i've had a constant surging headache for the past 48 hours. It moves from side to side in my head, and i really fucking wish it would go away.
I feel physically ill, and i havent been able to eat for a few days.

I actually didn't mind Die Romantic that much, but yeah I agree the rest of their stuff really sucks ass. Photographer most emo kids don't actually cut themselves, they're just following a fad. People who self-mutilate will a lot of times seem normal except maybe just depressed and you are definitely not a psychiatrist, my mom is though so I do have a tiny bit of credibility on the subject.

I dont know if you play and instrument. But there is no way you can say a band is bad at playing music. and lyrics. why do u you even bother writing about how bad the lyrics are. Listen to the tragically Hip their lyrics are bad but they still kick ass. Images of bands change all the time it's nothing new at all. And whats wrong with the gay image thing (im not gay myself). Some of the best bands are gay R.E.M., Franz Ferdinand.

Alright, I know I am probably going to be bashed for this, but read the whole thing. My intention is not to change minds on whether you like the band or not, that is your own opinion. I just want to point out a few things. And by the way, this is just my opinion. And I understand that the article was Dave's opinion of the band. This is just a look from a fans perspective.
First of all, what does the look of a band have to do with anything? I don't listen to bands based on what they look like. If I did, I wouldn't listen to much. Just because they aren't great looking to you, doesn't mean they aren't to someone else. Also, when does weight have a factor in a band? Bowling for Soup, for example. The guitarist is a big guy, but he's a good guitarist. Weight and look have nothing to do with music.
Second, just because lyrics don't make sense to you, doesn't mean that they don't make sense. For example, "Take this sadness and close your eyes" to me means to take the pain away from me and see if you can handle it better. Someone might have a different interpretation, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Third, the One Love video. The girl is leading him, not him leading her. Watch the video. Second, I think the big muscle guy is in the video for this reason: It's like yin and yang. The little girl represents being small, weak, and fragile. The guy represents strength and resilience. They balance each other.
Fourth. All bands are in it for money. Gas and gear are expensive. If bands didn't try to make money, there would be no bands. And almost all bands change in one way or another. Because they listen to, and are influenced by, more than one style of music. And when did it become wrong to change up the way you look? Is it written somewhere that you have to dress in the same style throughout your entire musical career? Many of the bands that dress eccentrically do so for theatrical effects. Just because wiL dresses the way he does for shows and photo's, doesn't mean he dresses like that all the time.
In closing, yes, I love emo music. I also love ska, metal, metal-core, punk, pop/punk, pop, indy, electronica, classical, acoustic, reggae, prog, rock, new wave, synth, pop-core, nintendo-core, and many other different styles of music. My favorite 3 bands, in order, are Reel Big Fish, Forever the Sickest Kids, and the Matches. I also play guitar, bass, piano, trumpet and trombone, and I also sing. I'm only saying this because I believe I truly have an open mind. For someone to come out and write an article like he wrote saying he has an open mind is just laughable. One of the only comments I laughed at and liked was his jab at Pete Wentz. I love Fall Out Boy, but I'm not a big fan of Wentz himself.
And on an end note, not everyone that protects a band instead of trashing them uses poor grammar or syntax. I do agree that people should double check their spelling and grammar, though, but that's a different rant.

I dress in black and I guess you could say I'm "goth" whatever but jesus this stuff sucks beyond the usual limit. I would rather listen to "I Kissed A Girl And I Liked It" 1000 times before having to hear this worthless babble ever again. I'd never listened to Aiden before today and I realised... I'd made a good choice in not doing so. I think I will continue not doing so based on what I've seen for myself today. And trying to not be biased I went to Youtube and looked up some other stuff they did trying to find out if MAYBE they had at least one song that could be considered worthy of listening to... and no, I found nothing. This is a great post. Probably the best so far in this thread, because I honestly think that both sides in this thread have been quite insulting.
I listened a bit to Aiden after this thread, and I dunno about the lyrics. Nothing in the article made me want to 'hate' this band, but after listening to the two similair songs, I decided to never listen to them again. It's just horrible when a band have to copy that much.

Hi, I'm new here, and when i saw this topic, i gotta say i was a tiny bit mad.
Aiden tbh, are my favourite band, and they have helped me out loads. Fine they might not look like the happiest men ever (or in some of your opinions, in One Love they do.), but thats just because of the genre they are. If you were in a band like that, and you dressed like that because it made you happy etc, would you stop for the case of some people who disagree with the message your trying to put across?
I'm taking it you've only heard Die Romantic etc, and yes i agree they arent the happiest songs again, but people like it. If you heard their latest album, Conviction, then you'd actually know what a great band they are.
I saw them earlier this year in April, and it was the 2nd time i'd seen them, and they were absolutely amazing. I saw them April 07' aswell, they were a support band, and i'd never seen the crowd that wound up tbh. They are an amazing band live, and they have amazing lyrics to their songs, and im sure you'd all recognise that if you stopped judging them on their looks and judged them on their music. Like wiL Francis, your blatantly judging him on his looks, when if you actually read interviews etc with him, you'd realise he's a totally different person from how he looks.
and Umbra, 'die hard fans', if someone had slated your favourite band as much as they have with Aiden, i'm sure you'd do the exact same thing as people are doing now.
And now i reckon i'm just gona leave you all with a wiL Francis quote, just so you can actually see that he's not a stupid depressed piece of 'trash', that he's actually a person and one that has influenced so many people, obviously not you lot.

this is exactly how i feel! how would you feel if someone was completely ragging on your favorite band. aiden has helped me in so many ways you have no idea. just because you don't comprehend the lyrics don't mean that everyone else will not understand them with you just because you never understand the emotion of the band dose not give you the rite to hate bash

I once had a pretty good friend, we listened to the same shit, bands like Machine head etc... then he started listening to Aiden. I told him that it was bad for him. Shortly after I found him listening to Britney Spears and Cascada.
I havn't heard from him in 4 months.
Aiden get SO MANY fucking reviews & articles in the metal magazine titled 'METAL HAMMER' and altrhough i never listened to them, i thought they MUST be FANTASTIC. Then i read your article, and the first couple of para's that ramble on about their looks, but i still thought they still may be good. Then i youtube'd them.... Die Romantic wasn't AS bad as you said, but it's riffs (if one would call them that) were still tasteless, as were the lyrics... and his vocals +o( so overall, i would definatley not reccomend them to ANYONE. do i need to comment on "One Love"?

But if you want good music, check out 3oh!3 they are a couple of skinny pot heads from colorado. You might not think they are good, and they are kind of underground, but their music is effin amazing.

And you know, normally, it's a good thing when music blows my ears out... when it's enjoyable... Well... let's just say I haven't heard right since.

I have never heard of Aiden until now but after looking at those vids and considering all the points you make I now know that if anyone tries to introduce me to Aidan, or puts on Aidan when I'm at their house I can kidney punch them and run for it and few will blame me for it.
As for all the complaints I can see from die hard fans I'd just like to point out: Sticking up for the music you love is fine, music plays a big part in all our lives and each to their own. But other people have the right to criticize it too, saying 'If you don't like them, don't write about them' is moronic.
It becomes pretty damn clear by the end of the first paragraph that this whole article is going to bag the shit out of Aidan so you have no excuse if you read the entire thing and take the time to post a lengthy complaint about the audacity of somebody actually hating something you like. If you don't like what it says, don't read it you DO have that choice. Then you have no reason to get upset.

The point is their songs suck and their appearance is embarrassing. They're unoriginal and untalented. It's bad enough to lack one, but to lack both is a severe disability. They should choose a different career. They are that bad.
Also, what you say about lyrics is laughable. I can guarantee that a band like this thinks of a theme, then uses rhyming phrases to make it work. There is most certainly no actual thought for a "feeling" behind the song. It's the bands that say they try to connect with their fans that really don't. If you're truly connecting with your fans, you don't feel the need to say it in every interview.

And they are, in my opinion, bloody good live.
3.Get;
i- a life and stop judging other people within what he thinks he can justify as entertainment
ii- a girlfriend who im sure would convince him to have more worthwhile conversations and may take his mind of his 'music' collection.
iii- a job -he may become less self obsessed and ignorant if he understood the world aorund him more, not just what he sees on TV and the interweb:)

The song itself was just plain annoying, I know some musicians commonly repeat the chorus like two times or more perhaps but I only heard him "singing" the same thing over and over throughout the song.
Hm. Now about the video.
At the beginning of One Love I thought the girl was a gothic spin-off of the common oompa loompa.
Maybe the random appearances of the oiled buff black guy and Jeffree Star was... well I just dont know.
On another note though, even Jeffree Star seems to look better than Wil with long hair.

Thank god for bands like Machine Head and Slayer, theres still a few bands out there with the ability to write decent songs and the talent to play them.
I saw Machine Head live with Nonpoint and Hellyeah. It was so fucking awesome. If you haven't heard Hellyeah, you should check them out. It was formed by Vinne Paul Abbott, the old drummer of Pantera. It's kind of a super group, the lead singer used to be in mudvayne? i think. I'm not sure, but I know it was a really, really good show. So was Down. Phil Anselmo has such raw energy on stage.

I'm from around there, and I'm convinced that the entire state has absolutely no musical taste.
With the exception of Nirvana, I haven't liked any band that has come from Seattle.

I dont know if you play and instrument. But there is no way you can say a band is bad at playing music. and lyrics. why do u you even bother writing about how bad the lyrics are. Alright, I know I am probably going to be bashed for this, but read the whole thing. My intention is not to change minds on whether you like the band or not, that is your own opinion. I just want to point out a few things. And by the way, this is just my opinion. And I understand that the article was Dave's opinion of the band. This is just a look from a fans perspective.
First of all, what does the look of a band have to do with anything? I don't listen to bands based on what they look like. If I did, I wouldn't listen to much. Just because they aren't great looking to you, doesn't mean they aren't to someone else. Also, when does weight have a factor in a band? Bowling for Soup, for example. The guitarist is a big guy, but he's a good guitarist. Weight and look have nothing to do with music.
Second, just because lyrics don't make sense to you, doesn't mean that they don't make sense. For example, "Take this sadness and close your eyes" to me means to take the pain away from me and see if you can handle it better. Someone might have a different interpretation, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Third, the One Love video. The girl is leading him, not him leading her. Watch the video. Second, I think the big muscle guy is in the video for this reason: It's like yin and yang. The little girl represents being small, weak, and fragile. The guy represents strength and resilience. They balance each other.
Fourth. All bands are in it for money. Gas and gear are expensive. If bands didn't try to make money, there would be no bands. And almost all bands change in one way or another. Because they listen to, and are influenced by, more than one style of music. And when did it become wrong to change up the way you look? Is it written somewhere that you have to dress in the same style throughout your entire musical career? Many of the bands that dress eccentrically do so for theatrical effects. Just because wiL dresses the way he does for shows and photo's, doesn't mean he dresses like that all the time.
In closing, yes, I love emo music. I also love ska, metal, metal-core, punk, pop/punk, pop, indy, electronica, classical, acoustic, reggae, prog, rock, new wave, synth, pop-core, nintendo-core, and many other different styles of music. My favorite 3 bands, in order, are Reel Big Fish, Forever the Sickest Kids, and the Matches. I also play guitar, bass, piano, trumpet and trombone, and I also sing. I'm only saying this because I believe I truly have an open mind. For someone to come out and write an article like he wrote saying he has an open mind is just laughable. One of the only comments I laughed at and liked was his jab at Pete Wentz. I love Fall Out Boy, but I'm not a big fan of Wentz himself.
And on an end note, not everyone that protects a band instead of trashing them uses poor grammar or syntax. I do agree that people should double check their spelling and grammar, though, but that's a different rant.

I have to admit the videos posted in this rant are pretty damn pathetic. I've never really listened to any Aiden recordings, but I saw them at warped tour, and they were pretty good live. Alot more metal and alot less emo.

I have been reading this comic for a couple of years now but never signed up for the site becuase... well because I was lazy but seeing this made me register delete 94 pages of unchecked email because again I was to lazy to check it, so I could register because I had to reply to this. I'm sure no one really gives a shit about that just though a back story was kinda neccasary.
It kills me inside to see this band making money when there are great band like the Oholics, The Grip Weeds, The Chevelles, The Chesterfield Kings, The Wolfmen, ect that are out there and barely known. This band is absolute shit along with that Topaik Hotel or whatever. I heard their cover of John Lennon's Instant Karma and died a little inside. Not only did it make my ears bleed but somehow people thought John's version was horrible. The people who like the music for the most part only like it because someone tells them to and their so fucking spinless the just go with it. Really its just sad how horrible music has gotten that a band that 40 or even just 20 years ago would never even get a gig a small club let alone a record deal. Music has got so shitty that a band thats subpar is considered amazing. Its just painful to hear people say they actual enjoy this shit. And then they get so used to hearing total shit when they hear good music they think its bad cause they are used to the noise they call music they don't like the good stuff. I saw them first live at a Zumiez Couch Tour a few years back, and they sucked THEN, when they were just getting STARTED. I think the best part of that little free concert (thank god) was when someone through a relatively full water bottle at the singer's head.

I'm not sure if anyone will really see this, or care, but I decided to watch the videos on the YouTube site and see what some of Aiden's fans really thought of them, and how smart they were. Of course a ton of traffic from Explosm caused an uproar and I decided to chip in on the action and had two separate arguements with two fans. I am here to post one of those arguments. I started by replying to a user's comment on a video, and here it goes, unedited and uncensored.
Someone started by saying: "This is soooo bad. Why is the bassist going mad on his guitar near the beginning when the music is going at a really slow pace?"
Idiot: "why r u a faggot sam? .. why dont u read this comment.. its supposed to b proving a point... about drugs and emotional.. trust i met wil the singer like 2 and i know his side.. so dont say shit.. its amazing .. can u play like them..??? i guess not.. whosever with me.. commment me.. Well part of the reason It didn't make sence was because it was four in the morning and I was fucking tired, but I know somepeople who really only listen this shit becuase they hear it on somewhere and think they need to like to mix with certain people. And I know I haven't been corrupted by bad music becuase a large majority of the stuff I listen to has stood the test of time.

I don't know if your a fan of Lennon's solo career, but if you are you know that Instant Karma is definatly one of the great songs to come from it. Well I went to watch it on youtube and saw that a band called Tokio Hotel had covered it. Initially I ignored it and just wached a live version by John. While listening I scrolled down to look at the comments. Of course there was the normal stuff, praise towards John, people giving respects, wishing he hadn't been murdered, ect. You know the normal kinda stuff but I noticed some stuff saying how the song was horrible and Tokio Hotel's version is so much better. Obviously the idiots thought that it was an original song by Tokio Hotel and were just pissed to see it wasn't. I was gonna start bashin' them but figured, what the hell, I should have an educated opinion and actually hear the other version. I listened to the whole thing I think mainly because I was in shock and couldn't move. I died a little inside and felt that if your going to butcher someone's song you might as well make sure he's alive to defend it. They might as well have destroyed his grave and memorial. I simply could not believe that people could actually prefer that absolute shit when the original was such a jem.

I've seen them live twice, once when they were opener, once when they were headlining. They are one of my best friend's favourite bands, we often conflict on music tastes (she pretty much is the song "Sheena is a Punk Rocker"), and the only good part of the show was this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Swr4gIVBc0) .... Primarily because I actually enjoy it and could sing along. Angry music makes me happy.

See, if they took an extra 10.67 seconds to type out real sentences with proper sentence structure, correct spelling and punctuation, I would understand them and have some for of respect for them. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO they have to be quirky and different. It only goes to show that the human race is getting dumber and has no chance of survival. Thank God for things such as Cyanide and Happiness to produce some form of laughter in my life.
And for that matter, on a critical standpoint, this music is way too simple. They just take power chords and simple bass patterns and add a touch of simple drumming, of course not forgetting the lyrics that make no fucking sense. Now let's take a musical composer who worked his ass off: Mozart. That man has done more for music than anybody I've ever seen. And not because he wrote complicated pieces, but because he could take a simple piece and make it absolutely beautiful. He would take a basic cello melody and add in a single high note from a flute or violin and let it ride for a while, and it would just show you the world from a different standpoint. He was a true musical genius.
So all in all, the band sucks, and whoever likes them should either
a. start paying attention in school
b. discover artists such as Mozart (or fucking even Guns N' Roses, anything other that piece of shit).
c. kill themselves

Alright, I know I am probably going to be bashed for this, but read the whole thing. My intention is not to change minds on whether you like the band or not, that is your own opinion. I just want to point out a few things. And by the way, this is just my opinion. And I understand that the article was Dave's opinion of the band. This is just a look from a fans perspective.
First of all, what does the look of a band have to do with anything? I don't listen to bands based on what they look like. If I did, I wouldn't listen to much. Just because they aren't great looking to you, doesn't mean they aren't to someone else. Also, when does weight have a factor in a band? Bowling for Soup, for example. The guitarist is a big guy, but he's a good guitarist. Weight and look have nothing to do with music.
Second, just because lyrics don't make sense to you, doesn't mean that they don't make sense. For example, "Take this sadness and close your eyes" to me means to take the pain away from me and see if you can handle it better. Someone might have a different interpretation, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Fourth. All bands are in it for money. Gas and gear are expensive. If bands didn't try to make money, there would be no bands. And almost all bands change in one way or another. Because they listen to, and are influenced by, more than one style of music. And when did it become wrong to change up the way you look? Is it written somewhere that you have to dress in the same style throughout your entire musical career? Many of the bands that dress eccentrically do so for theatrical effects. Just because wiL dresses the way he does for shows and photo's, doesn't mean he dresses like that all the time.
In closing, yes, I love emo music. I also love ska, metal, metal-core, punk, pop/punk, pop, indy, electronica, classical, acoustic, reggae, prog, rock, new wave, synth, pop-core, nintendo-core, and many other different styles of music. My favorite 3 bands, in order, are Reel Big Fish, Forever the Sickest Kids, and the Matches. I also play guitar, bass, piano, trumpet and trombone, and I also sing. I'm only saying this because I believe I truly have an open mind. For someone to come out and write an article like he wrote saying he has an open mind is just laughable. One of the only comments I laughed at and liked was his jab at Pete Wentz. I love Fall Out Boy, but I'm not a big fan of Wentz himself.
And on an end note, not everyone that protects a band instead of trashing them uses poor grammar or syntax. I do agree that people should double check their spelling and grammar, though, but that's a different rant.
I'm just going to throw this out there, mind you, it's just a few thoughts.
I personally don't discriminate when it comes to genre. I do hate this "type" of music, but that is not why I am disregarding this band as "hog shit" and being gayer than a "storm of cocks raining down into your mouth."
However, on the comment about "Who cares what they look like." ... Because I have to look at them, you dolt. It's that simple. I go to see bands I like on occasion, and if they look like blubbering vaginas, I'll be less inclined to want to "see" them (Although, I do love some vagina... but not when they are men). Also in that paragraph, you mention "as long as they play well" or sound good or whatever. Point is, they sound TERRIBLE. First off, "wiL" has no variation in his voice, A.K.A., he is to music what Steven Seagal is to acting. He's really fucking good at being wiL Francis, but can't be anything else. So his change over from Die Romantic into One Love was terrible. You can't go from screamy/yelly/"Boo hoo, I'm a bitch" to "Lalala, dance with a giant oiled up black guy." On a side note, the instrumentals aren't spectacular. Also, the fat guy with skeleton bones, Nick Wiggins, has shitty back up vocals.
Last and least, read your last paragraph, could probably have comma'd off "instead of trashing" while you were spell checking.

Oh. My. God. You hit the nail squarely on the head with this review. I split my side open just laughing at all of the gayness that these cocktastic retards were taking so seriously. Wil is inspired by the Red Hot Chili Peppers? I am a major fan of them, and needless to say I was shocked and appalled. Oh, and BTW, I think I threw up a lung laughing when I saw One Love (Wils look was clearly influenced by Chris Crocker). There should be international laws in effect to kill the people that make this SHIT on sight. That would make a blow to the economy, as half of the music industry would cease to exist if this were a real law.

They do indeed suck, are quite ugly and have no musical talent whatsoever but the truly sad thing is that they, at least the singer, get to fuck some pretty hot chicks.
A friend of mine in fact, told me a few months ago that she saw them live at some concert, went backstage and fucked that horrible monstrosity of man. And trust me, she is no disgusting goth chick, she's actually quite hot and really could do better by fucking anyone BUT him, 'tis a sad world we live in where even the ugliest and most untalented musicians are banging beautiful women. And I'm not just being a jealous dude, she's just a friend of mine and after she told me that, I looked up the band because I never heard of them before, and witnessed how fucking ugly that dude is.

And to whoever it was that said, "You can't play like that!" Name any song by Aiden and I will look up a tab for it and record myself playing it if you need any proof of how ridiculously simple the guitar on those songs are, go ahead, I really will do it.
And to recommend a few good metal bands because I pretty much always do whenever I'm given the opportunity, a few are: The Black Dahlia Murder, Machine Head, The Red Chord, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Unearth, Children of Bodom, Beneath the Massacre, Winds of Plague, Parkway Drive, Protest the Hero, and like that other guy said, 3oh!3 is pretty good too. A lot of people might not like most of those bands because most of them are in the vein of Death Metal but the musicianship in those bands is very respectable, actually takes some talent to play, and doesn't rape your ears, it fucks them in a very heavy, sort of loving way.

Hi, I'm new here, and when i saw this topic, i gotta say i was a tiny bit mad.
Aiden tbh, are my favourite band, and they have helped me out loads. Fine they might not look like the happiest men ever (or in some of your opinions, in One Love they do.), but thats just because of the genre they are. If you were in a band like that, and you dressed like that because it made you happy etc, would you stop for the case of some people who disagree with the message your trying to put across?
I'm taking it you've only heard Die Romantic etc, and yes i agree they arent the happiest songs again, but people like it. If you heard their latest album, Conviction, then you'd actually know what a great band they are.
I saw them earlier this year in April, and it was the 2nd time i'd seen them, and they were absolutely amazing. I saw them April 07' aswell, they were a support band, and i'd never seen the crowd that wound up tbh. They are an amazing band live, and they have amazing lyrics to their songs, and im sure you'd all recognise that if you stopped judging them on their looks and judged them on their music. Like wiL Francis, your blatantly judging him on his looks, when if you actually read interviews etc with him, you'd realise he's a totally different person from how he looks.
and Umbra, 'die hard fans', if someone had slated your favourite band as much as they have with Aiden, i'm sure you'd do the exact same thing as people are doing now.
And now i reckon i'm just gona leave you all with a wiL Francis quote, just so you can actually see that he's not a stupid depressed piece of 'trash', that he's actually a person and one that has influenced so many people, obviously not you lot.

sure there where alot of comments about how the band looked. and granted us the listeners shouldnt be judging a band by the way they look.. but if a band obsesses over there style and not what there music actually SOUNDS LIKE then we the listeners are also going to obsess about theyre style
and once again u make a valid point that it is theyre genre and they should dress for theyre genre. but theyre COMPLETELY OFF! the first song in that topic was at most a really REALLY shitty punk song wanna be. and wiL dressed like THE MADAF@CKIN JOKER! and talked to HOBOS while prancing about a F@CKING CHURCH WITH BATS FLYING OUT OF IT! the style and the music dont match. also can u define what GENRE of music they ACTUALLY PLAY! bottom of the barrel punk for song 1. absolute CRAP not to mention RIP OFF for song 2. and i dont even know what to say for song 3.
so dont dare think we are judging your precious little band according to looks.. cuz we arent. we hate their music and because of it we will make fun of thier looks.

Why is everyone so worried about disembowling Aiden based on their malignant-tumor-scraped-out-of-my-anus-esque looks? If a band sounds bad, then they better look like the love child of Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie, so when you mute their miserable excuse for melody - you have something good to look at. Aiden provides neither looks nor music.
Ultimately, their noise-making isn't worth the CD we didn't buy.
So I guess the lesson to be learnt is that when you are feeling like necking yourself remember the following.
No matter how misfortunate-looking you are, no matter abysmal your experiences - you can get comfort from the fact that you will never have failed at life quite as admirably as Aiden.

I completely agree with this article. Aiden blows, but that aside everyone here that either hates or likes aiden it is all OPINION. If you like aiden that's fine. But why reply to an article that is flaming the band? There is no point. I don't know if anyone else noticed...I was watching the One Love video and i think it was even in some of the others but during the slow verses the band is like ROCKING in the background running around like idiots. Reminds me of a wanna be rock band.

I'd have to say I agree with you 99.9% Dave. They're pretty pathetic, and the douchebaggery knows no bounds. Occasionally, though, and I'm sure most would agree, a semi-edible chunk surfaces in the sea of vomit. Being a big fan of cheesy ass 80's movies, I wasted a small portion of my life and watched Lost Boys 2 (mistake). However, Aiden's cover of "Cry Little Sister" wasn't that bad. They didn't change the song much, and they rocked it up a little. And they ditched the circus organ grinding solo, so that scored points with me. But on the whole, I'd have to agree. Aiden reeks like a burning house made of chicken shit and stuffed with dead dogs.

I also like how he says you're a year too late with your review but hardly anyone even knows they exist. Even at the concert I went to there were maybe 30 people tops and half the goth kids there only went to see Creature Feature perform.

This is from the show I saw them at. The audio is extremely shitty so turn your volume down. Check out the cool kick the lead singer does around 1:55! Because, you know, all cool bands do roundhouse kicks when things start to get really hardcore.
