Heya!

I turned 18 two months ago, and I'm going to college in two more. This means I will be living on rooms in a different town, therefore needing a laptop for college work/keeping in touch with mates/whatever.

I was wondering what I would need as to specs; I'll be buying something pre-assembled, I'm not sure on budget since it's my parents paying for it. I'd like to stick to Windows since I'm familiar with the programs and all by now.

Now, the college stuff as it is shouldn't require too much special things: I'll be studying languages so I'll probably have to write a lot (laptops with good/easy-to-work-with keyboard?) but I probably won't have to run any heavy programs for school. However, I'm somewhat of a gamer, and although I know laptops usually aren't perfect for it, I'd like to be able to keep playing a wee bit during the week (e.g. I'd be happy running GunZ: Site (http://www.ijji.com/downloads.nhn) ==> GunZ ==> System requirements).
Also, I'd like the laptop to have a webcam (though I can buy that apart if not available with other "needs"). Another rather big plus would be bluetooth (for exchanging information with cellphone, possibly bluetooth headset, etc.). May people seem to complain about it, but I don't mind the laptop running on Vista since we have it on our pc at home and I've not encountered any real problems with it (though the constant asking for permission gets annoying).

Now, I was wondering if anyone could advise a certain laptop that would fit my (not excessive, I think) needs while being somewhat affordable since I don't want to ruin my parents or anything. Please take into account that I live in Belgium and I kinda seriously doubt my parents will have me ship anything over.

Tl;dr version: Belgian student needs laptop: good keyboard (lots of text processing) gaming, bluetooth, Vista/XP (don't care), reasonable price - Suggestions?

If you're going to invest in Microsoft Office then wait until you get to college. My college had all sorts of connections and I got a special student copy really cheap, I guess this would go for most software too.

Dell have excellent offers on laptops for your needs.

And they get you all sorts of good deals as well. Take a look at the Studio and XPS lines.

The Dell XPS M1530 is a pretty kickass 15", which you can get for something like 2,300 - 2,400 euros.

Thanks for the responses, but I don't think my parents are spending that :x

I'm quite sure my sister got her laptop three years ago at ~1000-1200 euros. And I don't think they'll spend much more on me :D

Macbooks are super sweet, but can be a little price heavy.

Remake this as a good thread if you want. Closing this.
