So these guys at http://www.thespeedgamers.blogspot.com/ are doing a 72 hour gaming marathon with live streaming video of Metroid games, among others, and a donation for St. Judes children's hospital for cancer research.

It's a good cause, and pretty decent waste of time. They have about 25 hours left in the marathon, and they're over halfway on their donation of $5,000.

That's pretty awesome of them. If I had some money I'd donate.

Let's just hope they don't die of exhaustion like that Asian guy playing Starcraft did...

I hope Jack Thompson sees this. He probably wont, and if he somehow does, he'll probably pretend like it never happened.

It's a nice thought, but, erm.. isn't $5000 a tiny amount in the grand scheme of cancer research? I was under the impression that millions and millions, maybe billions of dollars have already been donated.

They are also raising awareness at the same time. But yeah, it is a somewhat small amount.

Awareness of what? Everybody already knows about cancer.

It should have at least been a specific type of cancer.

Well, again, these are really a bunch of kids just doing this for the hell of it. They get no profit from running it, in fact, they lose money from it. They're not that much older than us. Do you have millions and millions to give?

This is really just a chance for the small fry people of the gaming world to feel like they're doing something good.

that makes more sense. I was under the impression this was some kind of organization or something.

I like that you came in with 1/6th the total donations at $1000.

Charities are generally always good, so not much can be said other than "Great work."

Great work.

Yeah no kidding, that's a lot of dough. There should be video game tournaments in this manner, where a percentage, if not all of the money made goes to a charity.
