Well, many movies these days are going to made into 3D movies.
Toy Story 3 (Pixar) is one, but also 'Aliens and Monsters' are going to be 3D.
'Beowulf' was allready 3D.

There is also a buzz going on that the 'Hobbit' movie is going to be in 3D (how cool would that be if Smaug attacks you too?)

Patriotic as I am, I have to tell you about 'Fly me To the moon', the first animation movie that is made entirely for 3D. (no other formats available, as was Beowulf)
It's about three flies who go to the moon with Apollo 11.

Here's the trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/flymetothemoon/

This movie is made in Belgium (Oh yeah!) and it has it's US release this august.

Comments on this evolution? Or on any of the movies I talked about.

There was also "Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D" with Brenden Frasier.

Beowulf definitely wasn't available only in 3D.

3D movies are quite great, though. I watched Journey to the Center of the Earth recently, in non-3D, and I was quite disappointed that it wasn't. It was a decent family-adventure type flick, but you could point out every scene that was intended to be 3D.

The only thing that might hurt 3D movies is when too much work is put into making the visuals appealing. Just because a movie looks neat doesn't mean every other aspect has to be shitty.

I prefer 4D. When shit actually happens to you in the movies.

I think 4D is actually what he meant?
Sort of like "Shark boy and Lava girl"

No he meant 3D. 4D is in those amusment parks where if someone like, throws water at someone else(and by someone else I mean he throws it at the camera, you see the water come out in 3D)but the audience gets water splashed on them as well, like from somewhere in the theater.

Until they get rid of those stupid glasses, 3D will always be just a gimmick.

The gimmick is done really well in 4D, though, at amusement parks and whatnot, where they spray water at you and shit.

Oh i see! So 3D is more like just when it comes out at you but the visual is the only medium used?

Yup, 3D films give the illusion that you're seeing things in three dimensions, including depth.

So apparently the fourth dimension is spittle.

The Fourth Dimension is time. :ahe:

4D is a gimmick in of itself to get shitty retard children to want to experience it. It's basically "lets fuck with the audience while they cant see anything wearing those shitty glasses."

I suppose 4D could work as in "this was a waste of time" but that's it.

I know. It was a joke, in that 3D movies are only an illusory depiction of three dimensions, so the fourth dimension, movies in which add in the emulation of spittle, must in fact be spittle. :facts:

I think 3D is a gimmick we need to keep at amusement parks, similar to what Roger Ebert says, summarized by Alex Billington:

http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/08/21/even-roger-ebert-doesnt-like-3d-take-that-hollywood/

http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2008/08/dminus_for_3d.html

The point I agree with the most is that 3D takes you out of the illusion of the film, which is only acceptable if it's intentional, like breaking the fourth wall, a la Mel Brooks (Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles for example).

They're still going to want to use 3D as much as possible, because this is just about the only thing that theatres can do that ordinary people can't get in their own homes, what with their widescreen monitors and their DVDs/BluRays (or torrents). They want to try everything to draw people out.

I guess the NEXT gimmick movies will try to pull would be involving the sense of smell in their entertainment. That'd be fun.

I hope it was water though, I mean if I had the chance to throw something at a theater room full of people not paying attention it would sure as hell be piss.

But I have to say I have not a care for 3D movies, they are just a gimmick to get you watch their movie, Besides Fly me to the moon looks like crap anyway.

I blame Robert Rodriguez for this shitty trend, to be honest.
