I recently bought myself a Macbook Pro, loaded with Garage Band of course. I found a MIDI controller to hook it up with and started playing around. From this playing about I have come up with a short little tune. Check this tune out at www.myspace.com/nathanrogersmusic ; There is no ending to the song, it just stops. Any critique is appreciated.

Boy, do I loathe garageband. The stock sounds and presets are ass. Mixing is a dick because the peak meters are inaccurate and you cant do stuff like grouping effects or sidechaining.

There's a fix timing button somewhere near the piano roll thing (yeah it's been ages since I used GB), you should set the grid to 1/16th and fix the drum and synth lines. I'm not going to critique on production or synth selection or anything because it's a bastard in GB.

If you're serious about making electronic music you should get a better software host than Garbage Band. FL Studio, Reason, Albeton Live, Orion are all good but there are others. Listen to LOTS of different types of electronica from many different artists and listen for techinques, styles and sounds. Get involved in a good computer music community (http://www.sectionz.com) which is built around reviewing, constructive crits and generally sharing combined knowledge of production, songwriting and what not. Just practise a lot and try out many different styles of music.

Alright, thanks for the input. I'll check out some of these other programs and see what I can do.
