I've tried posting a forum for people who want start bands and I've had no success so far.
I was in a Thrash metal band for awhile but that never worked out and I'm having trouble finding people with the same musical tastes in the same area, so I was wondering if anybody had any tips for starting up a band?

Sure, just join my band. I'll go second guitar. If you can play my mad basslines, that is >.>

In my experiences, trying to start bands is enar impossible, especially for a bass player who doesn't sing. Your best bet is to wait until a band that fits your taste has their bass player leave, then jam your foot in the door. Or wait for someone else to start a band and invite you along. Which is why it's good to make sure you know a lot of the musicians in your area.

I've tried to form a band several times in the past, and none of them have worked out long-term. I find that mostly the reasons are:

-The skill levels differ widely; some people are gods, others can't play for shit
-People have too many other commitments
-People aren't dedicated enough

Peli gave some good advice, and if that works out, then great. If not, then I would say find the members one at a time. I have a very good friend who plays bass at the same level as I play guitar, and we jam a lot. If you can find a guitarist, jam with him, write some songs. Then pick up a drummer, and finally a vocalist. It could work out.

Good luck!

Really? I always thought bass players had it the easiest as they're smaller in number.
