I'm a huge fan of Modest Mouse, maybe because I like mellow tunes with the occasional song with a great beat.. The smooth sounds and guitar strikes me as brilliant.
They've got a decent selection to choose from, especially because they tried something new(er) with Good News for People Who Love Bad News, but my favorite album remains Lonesome Crowded West, mainly because of hits like Trailer Trash, Shit Luck, Cowboy Dan, and Doin' The Cockroach.
Incidentally, The Moon & Antartica is another winner, and I'll post some listen-tos as I find 'em, and you can help, too.

Dark Side of the Universe - http://www.iforgetthenameofthatsong.com/ (This will vanish eventually)
Dashboard - http://www.last.fm/music/Modest+Mouse/+videos/+1-M7cXvjEaeJU (A favorite for sure)

How about you folks? I don't hear much hype about Modest Mouse.
I think they're worth some hype...

The heaviest band to ever come out of Issaquah! and if you've ever been to Washington you know that's not saying much.

I'm a fan, and I had a chance to see them at the Sasquatch music festival, but they were the only band I was interested in and I didn't think it was worth the investment.

They've really changed over the years, but unlike the pompous pricks on the youtubes, I don't consider it a bad thing, and actually like the direction they're going. Their newest album is probably my favorite. It seems to me like the just used to do "Burnout" music.Fire it Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6DjyXQl7L8), The Ocean Breathes Salty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n4Sd-USFkQ), and Night on The Sun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MKyBBiKlQg) are currently my favorite songs, but they change all the time.

Missed The Boat used to be my all time favorite song. The lyrics are just awesomely written. We've got Everything is a notable mention as well. All their music just makes me want to stop whatever I'm doing and chill.

I know what you mean. I'd jump at a chance to see them live. We Were Dead Before the Ship Ever Sank is an amazing album, mostly Missed The Boat and Dashboard. The only album that I didn't like that much was Building Nothing Out Of Something, and even that had Grey Ice Water.

Yeah I'm a massive fan of Modest Mouse favourite songs are undoubtedly Bukowski and The World At Large. Good News For People Who Love Bad News is an awesome album but I do love their newest one We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, Johnny Marr and Isaac Brock fit together brilliantly.

I bought the Dashboard single. Good thing, too, that I didn't buy WWDBTSES because I was rather unimpressed with the songs.

No, it's a good CD. Dashboard is my least favorite song on that album.

I heard their song on Rock Band 2 and thought it was mediocre. So you can say I'm not a fan.

Seriously? What do you listen to?

I got hooked when I heard Tiny Cities Made of Ashes.

I mean, if you're going to listen to Modest Mouse, you have to listen to older stuff. That's when they were in their prime. The Moon & Antarctica and Lonesome Crowded West are FULL of great songs that can really get you to understand why they have so many fans.

Check out Little Motel and Night on The Sun.

Night on the Sun is one of my favorite songs by them. That whole EP is quite good, they have a quality discography that brings together ambiance and chaos. I dig it.

I love pretty much the whole album Good News for People Who Love Bad News. I haven't really listened to anything before that album though, I should probably do that.

We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank only has a couple songs that I like.

I fucken love Modest Mouse. Every album of theirs I own (with the exception of This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About) has several great tracks on it. They've got a fuck-ton of brilliant songs.

Good News For People Who Love Bad News:

The World at Large
Ocean Breaths Salty
Bukowski
The View
Satin in a Coffin
Black Cadillacs
One Chance

The Moon & Antartica:

Gravity Rides Everything
Perfect Disguise
Paper Thin Walls
I Came as a Rat

We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank:

March Into the Sea
People as Places as People
Steam Engenius
Little Motel
We've Got Everything
Missed the Boat

Float On is also brilliant, but I can't remember which album that's on.

Possibly one of the best songs they have.

I know this hasn't been posted in in awhile, but I might as well put in my opinion.

Modest Mouse is by far one of the best bands I've ever heard. While writing this, I'm listening to Missed the Boat. We Were Dead is my favorite of their albums, but I have yet to look into a few of them. I'm sure they will be great.

I'm disappointed at the lack of mention of Lonesome Crowded West outside of the original post. It's a great album, and Bankrupt on Selling is probably one of my favorite songs by them.

I didn't really care too much for that album, but Dramamine is definitely worth a listen.

I have Good News for People Who Love Bad News and We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Any thoughts on the next one I should buy?

I'd go for The Moon & Antarctica, Claudio, it's quite different from Good News and We Were Dead, sort of softer and more controlled, but it's definitely worth a listen.

I am a huge Modest Mouse fan and have all of their main albums (Long Drive, Lonesome Crowded West, Moon & Anarctica, Good News, We Were Dead.) including the more minor Building Nothing Out of Something. There are two albums that haven't exactly been mentioned here that I would recommend, which are:
*Albums are underlined.

1. This Is A Long Drive For Someone Who Has Nothing To Think About. It has the songs:
Dramamine
Custom Concern
Beach Side Property
Head South
Tundra/Desert
Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset
It may seem a little too slow-paced, and somewhat druggy, but it is a blueprint for much of Modest Mouse's later music, and if you like The Pixies you will probably love it.

2. Building Nothing Out of Something. It has the songs:
Never Ending Math Equation
Broke
Workin' On Leavin' the Livin' (That is how its spelled, trust me.)
All Nite Diner (Mentioned before.)
A Life of Arctic Sounds
Other People's Lives
This album is basically a collection of Modest Mouse singles before they started getting singles off their actual albums in Good News. It is kind of hard to find but it is definitely worth a listen or two.

Other songs to note are Calculus Man and Karma Payment. You should also look into a side project by lead singer Issac Brock, Ugly Casanova.

If I ever feel like crying immense amounts of tears, I'll listen to Little Motel
It's absolutely beautifully written
My all time favourite song is probably Invisible though, that's the last track on We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
