View Full Version : Zakk Wylde or Slash?

Which is your favorite and why?

I'd have to say Zakk Wylde in my opinion. Mainly because I haven't listened to all of Slash's material. Don't get me wrong, what I have listened to is down right AMAZING. On a side note, if you haven't heard Slash's version of the Godfather theme, I suggest you youtube that shit now.

My reasoning behind preferring Zakk Wylde over Slash is because I can just get into it. I love his use of pinch harmonics (though sometimes he over uses them, this can be heard in his version of Crazy Train), the crushing sound you get from the bridge portions of his songs, and his overall uniqueness. Example, the Song SuperTerrorizer, off of the Stronger than Death album. He takes his pick and goes behind the bridge of the guitar and strums all the strings. It makes for an absolute killer sound.

Last but not least, Zakk Wylde has the fucking beard!!! Slash's top hat is cool and all; but anybody can purchase a hat. It takes YEARS to grow a beard like that. HE IS A BLOODY VIKING!

Now your turn.

What's with your this or that threads?

I do this or that threads rather frequently because it allows people to make their point and explain why. It gets their point across, and let's them be heard.

Do you not like 'this or that' threads?

I suggest everyone go check this out right now. It's Voodoo Chile covered by both Slash and Wylde playing together. It is insanely great. I would never be able to choose between the two; they're just massive gods.

They're both pretty good, but I much prefer Zakk Wylde. He's so much more fucking hardcore. Holy shit, if Zakk Wylde wanted to take my stuff I'd say yes. He's so fucking awesome.

Sure you can.

Observe:

Kirk Hammett: Very bluesy solos.
Zakk Wylde: All out crazy solos, not very bluesy. Just METAL!!!

(I am a HUGE Kirk Hammett fan. I just prefer Zakk over Kirk.)

You can't compare Slash and Zakk, they are both amazing guitarists BUT they both have their OWN signature style that can't be compared to anyone.

Slash. He hasn't really put out a decent album since he was in GnR but growing up he was a guitar god for me. The man somehow managed to solo after every verse, transition, bridge, and chorus in a song, yet it never seemed like it was too much. Axel Rose has spent the better part of 15 years trying to find a suitable Slash replacement with no luck whatsoever.

I don't deny that Wylde is an amazing guitarist, but most of what he does is just less impressive to me. I've never been much into Black Label Society, but his work with Ozzy is pretty stellar. If I am not mistaken, wasn't he taken on by Ozzy when he was like 17?

Now in terms of who would win in a fight, it's Zakk all the way. He looks like somebody built a time machine, traveled to Scandanavia, took a viking back to our time and put a guitar in his hands.

Have you heard Slash's Snakepit, Android? I think thats where his best work lies to be honest. It's really different to GnR and Velvet Revolver but really has that Slash sound to it. I'd recommend for anybody who hasn't heard it to check out their album "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere'

Yeah I remember when he came out with the Snakepit stuff, but I just wasn't that impressed. Same with Velvet Revolver. I was really looking forward to the first and second albums, but they were just kinda weak balls. You'd think that a supergroup of guys who have been rocking for as long as they have could make some tunes that actually rock.

Yes he was seventeen going on eighteen when he was taken under Ozzy's wing. He wasn't better than Rhoad's, but he is still amazing. That's funny; the 'who would win in a fight' and the 'time machine scandanavia' bit.

Yeah I've gotta say I agree about VR, I like them alot, but there's just something missing considering who's in the band and all. Hopefully things will change when they finally recruit a new vocalist. Scott Weilands voice didn't work as well as I expected with this band.

Rhoads was a god. Too bad the prick had to go and die.

Yeah but he died in a pretty kickass way. He was doing a flyby on Ozzy's house and crashed the plane in the front yard. If that's not rock and roll I don't know what is.

Was he busting a mad solo in the key of B harmonic minor? I bet he was.

Yeah, that's why he crashed. He forgot to fly the plane cuz he was getting really into it. RIP :wail:

They're both pentatonic wankers but Slash actually has taste.

I love Ozzy, and like Black label a whole bunch, but Wylde was my least favorite of Osbourne's three guitarists. He's damned good, don't get me wrong, but both Rhoads and Lee kicked the shit out of him. My main gripes lie with his overuse of the pinch harmonics, and the fact that his solos are just damned formulaic.

Slash, however, has both decent speed and style, as someone mentioned. He could bust out the pentatonics like a fucking blues madman, but that didn't hinder him from being creative. To me, as good as he is, and as fun as he can be to listen to, Wylde is just not creative.

And I agree with Ziggy, for the most part. Both Snakepit albums were great, though the first was a towering inferno (not a Newman pun) of balls-to-the-wall, gritty rock. Velvet Revolver had some good stuff, but the merging with the Pilots of the Stone Temple really put the "velvet" into the sound, and not in a good way. Feels like it pussified Slash's playing. As a matter of fact, I'm going to listen to Snakepit as I drive across a few cities to this bar. That'll get me ready to drink and bust skulls.

its a tough decision,
but i would have to say slash is my personal fav.
i just think hes got a better range in his abilites, and he doesnt showboat alot. not that wylde does it alot, but i think he likes to be the center of attention more times then not.

and he does kinda over use alot of his stuff. alof of his riff and stuff are fairly similar to one another.

That's a good point you brought up there pal.

I'm gonna have to go with Slash on this one. I love GNR and Velvet Revolver. He's just too good not to pick.

Someone already had this idea in mind (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/444151)

I'll go for Zakk. He has that power and skill all rolled into one. That and the look of a viking God. Also, did anyone notice Zakk going "Limp Bizkit sucks cock!" in the Superterrorizer videos? That made my day. And then I was carrying on listening to it and then he went "Limp Bizkit still sucks cock!". I love it.

Ill have to go for Slash over Mr. Pinch-harmonics.

Yeah, he says that in Alcohol Fueled Brewtality, their live album. It's pretty sweet.
