I just got my Jackson Kelly KE-X Reverse

and my FullTone GT-500 Distortion/OverDrive Booster set up

Yummy

And I made some riffs to test out some Mathematic metal.

The 1st clip is 3/4 timing with Polyrhythm beats and Hemiola song structure. I had to pull out my handy calculator to calculate the tempo and timing.

The 2nd is standard 4/4 timing with some inversions and some beefy triplets.

I've never tried polymeter timing and i've never used math to make music in any way. So I thought i'd post these and get some feedback.

Dig in and enjoy!

Nice riffage, but the tone and distortion were in my opinion just plain bad.
More gain and a bit more bass and mid (cut down on the high a bit) could make it a bit fatter tonewise :)

What are you listening to it through?

Unfortunately when my room mate moved out, he took his studio monitors with him so i have to get my own set.

Pretty cool riffs. I agree about the Tone, shape it a little more. I am listening through JBL reference monitors. Also, a bit more volume on all the mixes.

I like where it is going.

 Awesome riffs, is there a chance of a download? I want to hear more.

And just wondering, how much did the Kelly cost you? I'm hopefully getting a Jackson soon, and am wondering whether I'm getting a good price for it.

Wow, what music editor did you use? That's a pretty decent drum machine. Sweet riffs.

Nice man, sounds sick, I like the second one best.

How long have you been playing guitar?

Learning is quite high on my list of things to do in the future. Guitar Hero just doesn't cut it sometimes.

Anyways, very good stuff, I liked them both.

They're both pretty good. I prefer the second one though because the riffs are a little more aggressive. Are you in a band and if so have anyone written lyrics to it? If done right it sounds like it could be a great song. :)

I think you should expand and experiment with some more complex stuff. This doesn't sound terribly mathematic but that's probably a good thing because this is quite listenable.

I usually don't comment on a sample's recording quality so I won't go there.

I never understood this math metal thing people talk about, you use a calculator to determine the tempo and timing of what you're going to compose? Not my thing. The riffs themselves were not that great, bland and uninspired in my opinion. First one showed hints of potential but the second one was dreadful, seemed like a pathetic attempt to resemble something as horrible as Inflames (unless you're a fan of Inflames and your aim was to sound like them, in that case I say well done)

I think if you add some progression to the first one it might turn out great, but this math metal thing and calculator usage is telling me there won't be any progression, or am I wrong?

Regardless, I love the drum machine you're using, and you seem like a solid drum programmer.

That was pretty sweet, but i've never exactly gotten the whole math metal concept. All I know is it involves weird time signatures and a calculator.
