Okay, so my friends' friend is going off to college. Fortunately for me, he has to thin his herd of 10+ guitars he had collected and restored throughout high school. Here is the deal he is offering me:

Jackson Rhoads (Restored, Modified)

1 Pignose Amp

Pickups
Phaser(maybe), Wah, and Distortion box/pedal
20 ft. Input cable

For 160 dollars. I'm new to the guitar scene, and don't know much about Jacksons and where they are priced. Is this a good deal? (Keep in mind he played the fuck out of it, it's playable but worn down a bit.)

That guitar looks gay.

I wasn't asking you Junglebunny.

To tell you the truth, I don't like the design either, but I really desperately want an electric.

Then you should get something that doesn't look so gay.

You weren't weren't asking me. Why would you waste your money on a gay looking guitar. You'd buy it and then regret it in a couple weeks when all your friends (assuming you have any) tell you how gay it looks.

And be honest, you probably thought that it looked "bad ass" and got so excited you went on an internet forum and made a thread about it.

Whatever. I hope you buy it.

In all actuality, junglebunny and I just helped you save face to your friends. Just go and buy an acoustic guitar and forget about the amp. It's better to learn on an acoustic anyway.

Junglebunny is a retard, don't listen to him. If you saw a picture of him you'd be laughing right now anyway.

Yes, it's a great deal. I say go for it. Chances are you won't find a better price.

However, if you are just learning, DubiousCrow is right. It'd be a better idea to learn on an acoustic. Your fingers gain more dexterity quicker, and you can impress the ladies anywhere.

The thing about the pignose amp is that you can impress ladies anywhere with an electric.

If prices for music gear where you live are anything like they are in Australia, 160 dollars for the pedals alone is a great deal as long as they're not cheap Behringer sort of shit.

If you could tell us the kind of pedals it'll be easier to tell you if it's a good deal because to be honest, that guitar's pretty gay.

It's a pretty good deal, though by the sounds of thing's he's played it beyond the point of exhaustion. Spend the same amount and get a starter pack, in my opinion.

Or, buy his pedals and then get a starter pack (which will almost certainly come with a bigger amp).

My bad, didn't see the pedals thing, I only looked at the pretty pictures. Yeah, do this.

Okay guys, I will take that into consideration. FYI, I've had n acoustic guitar for about five months now. It is the lowest of the low in quality, and I really wanted a decent electric. I can play basic chords, power chords, note combos, and the like. I can decently play a normal song with a little practice. Thanks for the advice.

(By The Way by the way, why do you think the design is gay, InTransit? I don't think it's the most awesome design in the world, but I don't see how bad it is to be gay.)

Or ask for a better guitar. With 10 guitars, theres bound to be a Les Paul or Strat among them.

For 4-500 dollars. I can't make that much in two weeks. :wail:

Although I would infinitely prefer a Stratocaster.

Do you play sitting down a lot? Because if you do, a V is not a good guitar to have anyway.

I don't care if that's a good guitar or not, for $160 you can't go wrong. That's like £80 over here, I'd snap that up in an instant if that came past me.

lobster bisque anyone?

Great deal, go for it.

Wait. You said that's a Jackson Rhodes? Those metal machines run for over two grand. And I don't think they look gay at all. Ask your friend what kind of model it is, you may have a chance of a lifetime here.

You have to take into account not everyone is going to like every guitar design. It just so happens the posters in this thread don't like the Rhodes, but it's OK to like it yourself. Definitely take the pedals, though.

Also, what kind of acoustic do you have? Get a Cort if it's anything but that. They're cheap and definitely better than what you have now (if it really is lowest of the low, anyway). Cort's have excellent sound and will last you forever as long as you don't literally toss it around. I've had my Cort since my fifth birthday. It was my first guitar and I still find myself jamming on it from time to time.

I think that's a fantastic deal for what you are getting. The guitar isn't to my taste, but for that price? Goddamn that's good.

2,000? HOLY FUCK I HAVE TO BUY THAT RIGHT NOW!

I have a Johnson acoustic guitar. I got it for $80, but I've seen them go for $35 on eBay. :blanky:

I'm just not a fan of the v-shape. And before you get excited about the whole $2000 thing, find out the actual model type first and google it. Some Jacksons can be EXTREMELY cheap. Still you won't get it cheaper than he's selling it to you. Buy the pedals and then send them to me.

Cakelord

It's a lot cheaper than the guitar, pickups, and other gear would cost new. I'd buy it, in Aus Jackson necks sell for $150, and you could sell the pickups and amp and other crap to actually make a profit, if you can find a buyer.

I have an MH-50 I got for $600. Here's a page with the retail price.

If that is an actual Jackson Rhodes flying V original, they are going on Craig's List and E-Bay for about $1500. That is a good buy regardless of style.

You can also learn "Diary of a Mad Man" have a psychopathic, drugged out singer pick you up in the air while playing the outro.

Don't listen to the naysayers. $160 for all of that is a great deal. Jacksons are kind of the unsung heros of guitars. The body style is a matter of personal preference.

Go for it, this is a great deal that you really won't find anywhere else. Hell, I'd pay $160 just for the guitar in this case, but you're getting a shitload of other stuff that I really wouldn't pass up if I were you.
