I'm not really into indie, but I find this band to be a great group with lots of excellent songs and fun, easy guitar work. They only had one hit (in the U.S.) in 2004 and after that sort of faded out. They're coming out with their third album in a few months and I was wondering whether any of you were fans, and if you're getting the new album. I am, and anticipating it anxiously. Their usual funky, dark riffs are now apparently going to have traditional African influences. I don't know about you, but I can't wait.

Anyone else into them?

Their singer made me want to rip my ears off.

They've always been kind of hit and miss for me. Sometimes the singer gets really fucking annoying, other times it's not so bad.

I love them. They're so fun. There's nothing like drinking beer in the afternoon and dancing like a hippy in the sun to Franz Ferdinand. And Alex Kapranos is fucking tall.

They're a pretty decent band. I listened to them a lot when their first album came out. I liked their second album, too, but they've kind of fallen out of rotation. I may ge their third album if I remember. But I'm not likely to just see it around here, so I'm likely too forget. Also, I kind of hate Alex Kapranos, because I want Eleanor Friederberger to be my girlfriend. That bastard stole my woman. :argh:

I've always been a fan and have both albums, and am seeing them at the dawn of 2009 at the Falls Festival in Victoria, Australia. Which is fun (and awesome, the lineup is dreamy, especially for an Australian festival)! It's catchy, you know. I don't consider them to be amazing musicians or anything but they do what they do better than most.

If you ever get the chance to see these guys live I really really recomend it, they had loads of energy and the crowd was fucking huge (about 5,000 people at a capacity Alexandra Palace in london).

They were touring their second album at the time and I thought they'd died out. Cheers to Laurence for telling us otherwise!
Enjoy your gig man, they'll be awesome.

Yeah I really like them. I love their first album but never really heard the second album.

I enjoy them a lot and love the song "Jacqueline", but then again I'm a sucker for those British indi/alt. rock bands e.g. Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand, Keane, The Pigeon Detectives etc.

I love them! You Could Have It So Much Better was one of my first CDs. I still listen to it and I got it like 3 years ago, when it came out. That's the only album of theirs I have. I'd go buy another but that's far too expensive.

You really need to buy the first one, it's a hundred times better than YCHISMB. (In my opinion)

Yeah I'm really looking forward to it because I'll get to hear new material, woo! I also remembered about this: http://franzferdinand.co.uk/lucid-dreams/index.html, which is one of the songs from the forthcoming LP. (and if you use the 'Dig Again' function there's even more! I didn't know that!)

I would have to agree. I wouldn't say 100, maybe 4, though. 40 Feet was probably always my favourite track.

Thanks Laurence, I didn't know that's what the Dig Again button was for. I thought it was for Digg, or something. All of the new songs are really funky, something tells me I'm going to love this album, perhaps more than the first.

EDIT: I FUCKING LOVE TRIGGER 8

Ok, this is very, very exciting.

Their new single (Ulysses) premiered in the UK on the weekend and it is now streamable on their MySpace... I love it already, and have been playing it repeatedly. It does strike me as quite different, much in the way Lucid Dreams was, but it really has that anthemic dance/rock with a dash of indie feel to it - which was basically that it wouldn't have cohesively fit into either of their previous albums. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a hit, it's just damn catchy.

"Take Me Out" ruined it for me. It's one of those songs that while it's catchy, you wanna tear out your eardrums hearing it every time on the radio.

Thanks, I enjoyed that.

The vocals seem really rather different in some parts, compared to their earlier stuff. What irks me in this song is the whispering. Ugh.

I liked that a lot. Different from their last album, but it still sounds like them. I'm definitely looking forward to this album now.

they're alright but the singer's voice gets on my nerves sometimes. some notes i'm kinda like oh hell no...but for the most part, i guess i can tolerate the music. maybe it's time for the singer to get a career change.

The vocals set them apart, but I think it does polarize people - some people will like it and some people won't.

If you can only 'tolerate' a band, should you be listening to them?

I've liked Franz Ferdinand for a while now, I really love the stuff they do. Its pretty close to which album I like better, but I think its You Can Have It So Much Better. Most of the songs on there just kick a lot of ass, and they didnt get terribly overplayed on the radio (I cant listen to Take Me Out anymore.)

They're one of those semi-indie bands that got absorbed by the mainstream. See: MGMT, Kings of Leon... etc.

Oh my. Has anyone else heard the full of their new album (Tonight: Franz Ferdinand)? It's...well, there are typical flashes of brilliance (Ulysses, No You Girls, Twilight Omens) but the rest is boring filler that isn't even that fun to dance to or anything. And they absolutely killed Lucid Dreams by changing it up and added some strange pseudo-rave ending to it that goes for about 4 minutes that is incredible overkill. After that the two closing songs (Dream Again, Katherine Kiss Me) are just boring piano-ballad type deals which just do nothing.

Franz Ferdinand! I had such high hopes, but after about 7 runthroughs I'd have to rate it about 5 out of 10. Maybe it'll grow on me but it certainly doesn't have as cohesive a feel as their debut or YCHISMB, nor the same level of consistency. Seriously disappointing.

I just picked the album up 2 days ago, and my first thought was that I missed the guitars. It does have its good material, but I have to agree with Laurence, it didnt live up to the first two albums.

First album was awesome. Listened to it a ton.

Second album sucked shit. The Fallen was the only okay song.

Might get the third album.
