View Full Version : Your favourite band sucks.

This should be fun.
Basically, the rules are very simple. You have to 'buy' entry to this thread by listing twenty bands that you think encapsulate your entire music taste. Don't leave anything out. And if you try to fool us with an obscure band no-one's heard of, we'll look it up on myspace and use it as our entire basis of mockery. If they're not on there, we'll asssume you've made them up and you'll have to replace them with a REAL BAND.
Once you've done that, feel free to rip apart anyone else's music taste in the thread. Compliment, flame, humiliate, there are only three rules.
1) you have to have listed ten to twenty bands in one post BEFORE you start commenting, at all.
2) You have to back up your arguements with ACTUAL REASONS. 'LOL NEW FOUND GLORY SUCK HOWZ MDDLE SKOOL??/?' won't cut it. even if you're Audioslave. Say WHY you don't like a band, your reasons behind it etc.
3) Don't judge a person by a couple of bands they like. Take stock of their ENTIRE music taste, as a whole. That said, feel free to take the piss out of specific bands, just don't assume that just because they've put down 50 Cent, for example, they're a chav or wannabe gangsta.
PS I was going to put this in Media, but it has a survey element to it, and it has rules that need to be enforced. Also J-Rex makes funnier ban/infrac reasons.
So, I guess I'll get this under way
1. Anti Flag
2. Adequate Seven
3. Less Than Jake
4. Jesse James (The Uk ska band, not the rapper)
5. Big D and the Kid's Table.
6. Blink 182
7. Brand New
8. Fall Out Boy
9.Jimmy eat World
10. Lightyear
11. Lostprophets
12.New Found Glory
13. NoFX
14. Pickled Dick
15. Reel Big Fish
16. Rise Against
17. Sonic Boom Six
18. Sum 41
19. Taking Back Sunday
20. Weapons of Brass Destruction.
Have at it.
J-Rex Edit: Keep it between 10 and 20. It doesn't HAVE to be 20, but atleast list 10 so we can see a variety of your taste.
Quadros Edit: Okay from now on people who can't count are banned from the thread. No-one care about a four year old's opinions on anything.

Quadros, all your music is the same. Its like you picked one genre and listed every band who plays it. Ska, Skacore, whatever it gets called, it's all annoying 3 chord, 2 1/2 minute punk rock songs with empty lyrics. Those guys lack real artistic ability with their instruments. I mean, do they even solo?

Quadros, you never cease to amaze me. Fallout Boy? Really? I know it's kind of the cool thing to hate on Fallout Boy, but I don't even care, I never once liked any of their songs period. I heard the songs before I heard the hype, and I can safely say that listening to Fallout Boy ranks somewhere below having a nail hammered into my ears or listening to a Hoobastank concert. I mean your playlist is fine...if you're 13. I'll admit, I have some songs by a few of those artists, but I listen to them maybe...once a week? If I had to listen to What's My Name Again every day, I think I'd paint the walls Kurt Cobain style.

I have a theory, Audio, that you're so obsessed with dodging the mainstream that you dodge the good just to be safe. You're so scared of being labled a sell out bandwaggoner that you just found your niche in bands that would say 'well, you know man, it's all about, like, the music, and how it speaks to you, you know? Cos it's all like different, and you know, stuff...' And figured, ah fuck it, YOU'RE not stoned or depressed, right? So it can't be ALL bad, right? There are always two guys in any friendship group who sit around smoking and talking about bands that no-one else has heard of, just loud enough for everyone else to hear how cool and developed and different their music taste is. My group of mates both at home and at uni have them, and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you are one of those kids. See, I recognised most of those bands because I went to Reading with the two guys I think of when we discuss music, and I'm suprised you've not put Youth Movies.. and Biffy Clyro on there and really gone for the clincher. Oh wait Biffy had a magazine cover, didn't they. I guess they're out then...
In no particular order:
The Presidents of the United States of America
DMB
Rage Against the Machine
CLAPTON
Black Sabbbath
Ben Folds
The Notorious BIG
Pearl Jam
Cold Play

Iron Maiden
Bob Marley
The Traveling Wilburys
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Beatles
Incubus
I really dont think you guys have bad taste in music. There are som e questionable bands up here so far. Like DreamTheatre. Seriously? I mean i know they're talented and they just blow people away with their music, but how many times can you listen to the same sweeping guitar solo in f# minor? While they are good, i just feel that they're one of those bands that should just come out with a greatest hits, tour one last time and stop.

Nice try, had you tried that on me say...3, 4 months ago, you would have had me more or less pegged. Unfortunately, you did not actually check out most of those bands, because if you had, you'd know that most of those are pretty much party bands (maybe 3/4ths)
And no such luck with the whole shying away from the mainstream thing, either, I have more than my fair share of cliche'd classic rock, and stuff found on the radio. Kanye West, the Killers, some My Chemical Romance, oh yeah. I've got some real radio-play stuff. Try again, though. And feel free to rag on me for MCR, too (then again, they're probably on your playlist, right after Fallout Boy)

Not all of the bands he listed are that far from mainstream Quadros. I mean it's not like he's into bands whose music stopped developing 10 years ago.
There are so many bands of so many styles that I enjoy, here are just some ones I could name off the top of my head:
Frank Zappa
Devo
Pink Floyd
Danko Jones
Beck
Slayer
Thin Lizzy
Judas Priest
Mr. Bungle
Blackalicious
Air
Grandaddy
Talking Heads
Parliament Funkadelic
Johnny Cash
Orbital
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

Just going to get right in here and say...

18. Brian Adams
Holy mother fuck. The only way this could get worse is if you had Fallout Boy and Bon Jovi. I'm not even kidding, we need to get you some serious help. Do they have music rehab? It's not even a thing where they can't play their instuments, or they can't sing. They're both pretty decent. Their song writing skills are tired as hell, but that's not it either. These two men embody what it is to be lame. If you ever meet a child who says "I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE BRIAN ADAMS" dropkick that kid like he just raped your sister. I figure in about 20 years, the highest form of insult will be "Dude, you're so Keith Urbaning right now."

You're allowed to assume I have MCR from the fact I have FOB, if I'm allowed to assume you have FOB because of MCR, deal? I mean at least back in 2003 Fall Out Boy were labled pop punk, and have changed in their third album into full on wannabe emo. MCR have ALWAYS been shit, with stupid over sensivie lyrics and a pretty boy leadsinger who seems to have formed a band around himself without really giving recognition to the fact that more of the members than him really matter. And When you say 'party music', you mean music musical snobs put on AT parties which everyone else has to endure whilst the snob has a loud conversation with someoe who's just about feigning interest about how 'This band are REALLY good, you just have to understand it, like I do...' I've endured that, more than once. The decemberists aren't party music, Unless you're celebrating being boring.

Hah, you're not serious? Man, I'm aware MCR are not musically that great, but at least they're trying to be something decent (Queen, anybody?) Fallout Boy are trying to be Blink 182 meets the Cure in a suicide pact.
And when I say party music, I'm talking songs with lyrics like:
On the patio, on the patio
We're playing disco on the patio
And at the record store, at the record store
We show up retro at the record store
i was a teenage ice machine. i kept it cool in coolers. i drank until i dreamed. when i dreamed i always dreamed about the scene. all these kids look like little lambs looking up at me. i was a twin cities trash bin. i did everything they'd give me. i'd jam it in my system.
Some people say that 40 bucks is too much to pay
When you're out drinking the night away
But I say it ain't
What am I gunna keep it for?
Trying to be rich seems like such a bore
Anyway, what do I want to be rich for? I'm out looking for love
:emo: Depressing, innit?
And believe me, I didn't count the Decemberists.
Out of the artists I put, I'd say... The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Neutral Milk Hotel, Silversun Pickups, Iron & Wine, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Regina Spektor would be shitty party music. Though each has upbeat songs, I probably wouldn't dance to them.

yeah, but compare that to REAL party music:
Sixty feet stomping (Noise Complaint!)
Yeah the souped-up vinyl spinning (Noise Complaint!)
Well laughing is a reason (Noise Complaint!)
We're all spaz cap drinking (Noise Complaint!)
Well it's a sure shot, we can't be stopped
Twenty bucks says there's a noise complaint
Well ever since we introduced the Boom with Sounds To Consume
Can I presume you ain't assuming all this doom and gloom?
All these kids that go to gigs in Halloween costumes,
You used to play a fucking trumpet now you're flying a broom knob head.
If i get drunk well, I'll pass out
On the floor now baby
You won't bother me no more
If you're drinkin' well, you know
That you're my friend and I say
I think I'll have myself a beer
THAT is party music!

Social, despite seeming fairly intelligent and articulate, you're still just an angst ridden teen. Perhaps if you spent less time reading Maddox, and more time refining your musical palette you'd actually have something that could be considered taste.

Having similar music tastes to social, and also being fairly articulate and intelligent, I'm gonna take that as a cut on me as well.
I listen to music that I find enjoyment in. What I find enjoyment in is intense, heartfelt music that the artists are making for the sake of music, not to sell another album. Which is why I didn't include Dream Theater or Avenged Sevenfold.
Jiggz, I know about half of the bands on you list, and of the ones I know, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is the only one I don't really care for at all.
Notorius PIG Fabz? The guy never made any decent music, and his one claim to fame (other than be obscenely and disgustingly overweight) is being shot.
The Notorious BIG is quite possibly the greatest rapper of all time. His lyrics and music has influenced so many current artist it's not even funny.
For example the song, "Juicy." "Juicy" is a rap anthem and is basically what every single rapper talks about today. Living the dream, going from the projects to the mansions.
His double disc, "Life After Death" had so many great songs on it that Puffy is still living off the royalties. They will always be looking for the next BIG Poppa.

Yeah sure, I liked Blink and Sum when I was what... in 4th grade? But I've grown out of them because I realized it was really all the same fake-edginess. Now, I'm not gonna assume that you're Emo; but Fallout Boy is just never a wise choice. First of all, they're sell outs... second of all, their music is Radio-Friendly (if you don't know what that is, I'll explain later) and just flat-out sucks. :ahe:

Social, despite seeming fairly intelligent and articulate, you're still just an angst ridden teen. Perhaps if you spent less time reading Maddox, and more time refining your musical palette you'd actually have something that could be considered taste.
Well I'd be ashamed if I wasn't an angst-ridden teen at some point, that would mean I'm missing vital hormones =].
Jiggz, you're just an existential-anarchist with a disestablishment disorder and governmental paranioa. Fatmike would love you =P.
As for you SoulInferno, saying that Billy Talent have a bad singer when you listen to Cannibal Corpse is pretty funny. And Spit it Out by Slipknot is a thrash masterpiece, so no to the pre-teen demographic.

Alien Ant Farm
Breaking Benjamin isn't that bad.
30 Seconds to Mars is okay.

Well most the bands on my list dont make it on the radio but they still rock.
Im sure if I listend to a Hard Rock/Metal station I would hear most the bands you mentioned and at one time werent all bands played fifty times on the radio?
A Perfect Circle
A Fire Inside
Incubus
The Arcade Fire
The Pillows
Muse
My Chemical Romance
The Killers
Tegan and Sarah
The Blood Brothers
Alexisonfire (I've actually hardly listened to them, but from the few songs I have heard, I love them.)
I'm going to criticize my own taste in music because I'm too lazy to read everyone elses.
The Pillows - They're fucking japanese. I can't fucking understand the words.
The Arcade Fire - The vocals get really annoying sometimes.
Muse - Everything sounds the same.
Tegan and Sarah - Everything sounds the same.
My Chemical Romance - Everything but the first CD sucks.
Also, the Blood Brothers are fucking crazy. I guarantee if you listen to them, you'll most likely hate them. Or you'll love them. Either way, they're fucking crazy. Also, they're not even on myspace, so you can't listen to them.

I only had like 5/23 metal bands on there. Most were regular rock, and a lot were jazz. Try finding Herbie Hancock on your Rock/Metal station. Plus I don't really like Pantera that much... shouldn't have put them on there. And yes, a lot of the bands on your list aren't on the radio, but I went and listened to them. They are not good. At all. Also, I don't listen to the radio. So, maybe. But that doesn't have to do with anything. Have fun with your three power chords and emo lyrics.

I am sure you have some kind of more specific reason then "they just sound like crap." I say this because I happen to think that the sound of a cat being dragged down a black board and then under a car wheel sounds like crap but no one has said they like that kind of music yet. So, I have not had a chance to give that unhelpful piece of input. Maybe you could expand seeing as this kind of music has more then one sound?
And cool another Funeral For A Friend fan. I just have Hours at the moment, am thinking about getting their new album but I don't know if is very good yet.

I stopped listening to these bands back in the 7th grade, thats when I started to get into heavy metal.
Really the reason why I stopped at My Chemical Romance was becuase seriosuly they sold out to emo. Not only that but I accually read the lyrics and there pretty shitty.
Green Day just was really a fad, I quit listening to them becuase I just got tried of there sell out album "American Idiot"
Nirvana was really becuase I could play "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
FAILout Boy really sucks ass, I just wanted to shoot my self in the face after "Baby Were Going Down". I saw a interview in the Guitar Magazine and they said they wanted to play Pop not Rock. But again they sold out to emo.
You are either some guy in their midlife crisis or your still in middleschool. But you need to get in to some heavier shit, like Killswitch, Dragonforce, Children Of Bodom, or atleast some Metallica.
JohnThePersonGuy: You have Rap.. which is "The Thing" to like now-a-days for kids who wanna be cool.. and you have some bands that are now super-popular on MTV (Fallout Boy, Plain White T's, My Chemical Romance); If I never met you, ever, and saw this list; I would assume you were trying to be that kid who wants to fit in by listening to crap he really doesn't like. :ahe:

Psycho's list of bands was probably the only one I could actually stomach. Old 80's hardcore punk like Minor Threat, Crass and Descendants plus the pop-punk This is My Fist totally make up for the shit like Rancid, Authority Zero, and Green Day.
Side note: Everyone that even wants to post in this thread should go learn what emo is before they classify it as Fall Out Boy and MCR. Shit is not emo in the least. Wikipedia can help you out in that field if you actually want to stop sounding like a dumb shit.

Jimmy Eat World = Emo
MCR = Hard Rock first, then became power pop.
Anyone who has a problem with Jimmy Eat World can suck my e-penis.
Well I'd be ashamed if I wasn't an angst-ridden teen at some point, that would mean I'm missing vital hormones =].
Jiggz, you're just an existential-anarchist with a disestablishment disorder and governmental paranioa. Fatmike would love you =P.

For the love of Criss Cornell, thank you! Every Audioslave fan I talk to will not shut the fuck up about Out Of Exile. Piss off! That bunch of over-produced, under developed garbage is not worth fitting in my c.d player.
But why the fuck is Tenacious D on any lists? I mean, c'mon, they're comedians who really aren't all that funny. I saw the movie, I really didn't laugh much. Sure, it was a bit funny, but they're hardly the best comedy act ever. I mean, the movie/c.d is just Tribute, rehashed into 20-odd tracks.

And cool another Funeral For A Friend fan. I just have Hours at the moment, am thinking about getting their new album but I don't know if is very good yet.
Get Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation before Into Oblivion. It's good, but the old stuff is amazingly better. Bullet Theory, Juneau, Bend Your Arms, 3 out of my 4 favorites on that album.

Fitting that Audioslave knows his band well :hf: I agree entirely with that, everything after their debut is saved only by the fact that Morello is the guitarist. And on the note of Audioslave, I'd rather listen to Rage and/or Soundgarden any day.
Also, to anyone else who put Atreyu on their list: Do you like Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses/The Curse better, or Deathgrip On Yeasterday/ Lead Sails Paper Anchors? Cuz I've noticed that there's an inverse proportion between how good the band is and how horrible Vark sings.
And I never really considered Jimmy Eat World emo. I consider emo more like Bauhaus and Circle Takes the Square.

What the hell are you talking about? Rap is "the thing to like now-a-days"? Where do you get off making that statement? Rap has been popular for over 20 years and there is quality rap out there. You're probably listening to that 'gangsta-pop-ringtone rap' that plays on the radio and BET. Do some research and you can find good rap/hip-hop.

Yeah Fallout boy have an emo bassist that their label pushes to the front of the photoshoots to appeal to the angsty kids. They're actually a very fun and energetic band. Am I a music elitist? Maybe a little. But see, the difference between me and you, Quad, is that the stuff that I listen to once a month, appreciate, then change the song, you listen to every day. I mean, I won't deny I have some Panic! At the Disco Songs. I rarely listen to them, but I can appreciate that the lyrics are fairly well written (better than Fallout Boy, anyway) and they know how to nail an atmosphere. I think the fact that I can listen to just about anything (besides a few choice ones, mostly the ones I listen in the this thread) and appreciate it makes me pretty un-elitist.
Ok, System of a Down is a shitty overrated band. Did anyone even listen to Toxicity? That album sounded like blind, autistic kids hitting dogs with trash cans. Pure shit.
That's horseshit.
The songs that made it to the radio weren't the best on the cd. The cd was faithful to the way they have always made music and it was a mix of politcal and schizophrenic rock like they have always made. The didn't start out trying to be mainstream and unfortunately columbia tried to turn them into another generic rock band and it didn't work. I personally like system of a down because they DON'T sound like everyone else.

I think he played a couple songs from it, can't remember them though. And uh, I've been playing jazz since 3rd grade on the electric bass, and since 4th on the upright. Though you're probably a lot older than me. Plus I started with jazz. What instrument do you play? Or start with for that matter.
...and I guess I'm a music elitist too.

Metallica? Is St. Anger your favorite album? If not, how can you like a band who pussified their music over the years, changed their style, and can't live up to their name?
Bach? You're a liar.
Ok, first of all, Toxicity was their BEST album, I didn't like their new stuff nearly as much as what they produced off of that album. They had brilliantly thought out lyrics and the songs were all good imo.
Mettallica: No, St. Anger is not my favourite album, although I didn't mind some of the songs. They have changed over the years, but who hasn't? They have been around for 20 some odd years, of course things are going to change. However, they said they are going back to their roots for the new album that they are currently producing, which should be interesting to see how it turns out.
Bach: I actually like some of that shit! I'M SERIOUS! Not like I listen to it every day, but it's interesting music.

Clearly you don't live in an Mtv controlled area. Once Nelly came on the scene with his cheek band-aid.. every kid started wearing unneccesary band-aids. The only way you were cool is by following MTV; which is now being filled with Fallout Boy and 50 cent.
And Hell No.. I don't listen to Rap in general.

Really I don't find anything wrong with System of a Down. I really liked their first album expecially the songs P.L.U.C.K, War?, Spiders, and Sugar. But then again I was in the 8th grade :indiff:. They have changed like all the other bands, especially attracting emos with their song "Lonely Day". I really just stopped listening to them but I still consider myself a fan of them.

Lemuria/Daggermouth/The Ergs! pop-punk. If you can't find something in that list of 20 bands you suck. Sorry I didn't list shitty metal like Cradle of Filth. I can't say anything bad about Wu-Tang I must admit.
So you posted a band in a thread of favorite bands that you think sucks? Contradiction much?
The fuck? I never said I liked Mae, I said they sucked.
And I made a different list as well.

Alright, first of all, stop putting Tenacious D so everyone will think you're as funny as Jack Black. Second, why is EVERYONE listing 6 death metal bands? It's getting old, and I mean the music. Sometimes a band has to grow up and venture from the same chords and lightning fast garage playing and the same lyrics over and over, such as, "It rains bloody bloody death on my blackened soul of sadness which lies in a black abyss of depressed lonliness." Sometime you have to realize that all of that is the same thing over and over, and you might want to listen to something/someone that has a lot of talent. I'm not saying my musical taste is far superior, but you have to admit, most of it is pretty original for what most of you listen to. Also, FOB is not that bad, in fact the lyrics for a lot of their songs are pretty decent. I just...I...I'm sad, so much to say.

Yeah, Jimmy Eat World are the nice guys of emo, anyone who doesn't agree should listen to "Sweetness" again.
Can anyone who hasn't posted their list of bands fuck off please?

For gods sake, of course all the music in one genre is going to be the same. You can't be serious.
Maybe everyone writing love songs should grow up?
Maybe everyone writing about getting drunk and partying 'til 3 am should grow up?
You know what happens to bands that "change their chords" these days? They get accused of "selling out", that's what.
And don't tell others to take bands off their list, it's not your place.

Well, social lawnmower, maybe people should expand their variety so everything they listen to DOESN'T sound the same. Atleast I had some kind of diversity. Rock, pop, blues, instrumental, metal. I could understand if a person said that they have listened to all sorts of music and just didn't like it, but that's not the case.
Could you help me understand the love songs thing? That was rather random and retarded. By the way, I'm not saying people have to take away and add things to my liking, I'm saying people should try new things, homo.

No you weren't, you were saying, "Get Tenacious D off your list". You didn't encourage anyone. How do you know what they've listened to? Rock, Pop, Blues, Instrumental (which isn't a genre) and Metal aren't really a wide enough diversity to make you an expert.
You were the one who said people should "change their chords", not me. Maybe you should do the explaining.
And as for the homo remark: If I was I wouldn't care, and because I'm not I don't care.
Basically, I don't care what you think.

I'm not even going to argue about the Tenacious D thing. I know what they have listened to because they are all of my friends just in a different body. People who listen to one genra of music are very hard-headed and most of the time won't even consider liking something that they haven't heard over and over on their ipod. By the way, if instumental isn't a genra then neither is "Post-Hardcore" or "xSpookyxxCorexx." If you can find a more diverse taste in music on this thread then please, find it for me.

Cobalt, whether or not you won any kind of argument is open to question. The fact that you're closed-minded about music you don't like (i.e. metal) is what makes you fail. I also find it funny that you accuse metal bands of having little or no talent when I see Jack Johnson on your list. Slipknot's guitarists play better than Jack Johnson, for Christs sake.
Problem is, the only metal you're referring to is death metal. Power metal owns the shit out of death metal, try listening to it some time. Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Gamma Ray, some Amon Amarth (they're closer to death metal I think). Know what you're talking about before you flap your jaw.

Yeah just by looking at your list I can tell you don't listen to anything that isn't mainstream. A group of pure awesomeness like Judas Priest should in no way shape or form ever be listed in the same as Fall Out Gay, 30 Second to Snore, and The Academy Isn't.

I grew up listening to Savage Garden, they were one of the best bands of their time before they broke up. In my own personal opinion I think Pop-Rock bands have just as much skill musically then most Rock and Metal bands, sure they do easy to play 3 chord songs but in some cases they can make it sound good.

You could be correct when you say Slipknots guitarist plays better, because honestly I've only heard one of their songs. But I do know that Jack Johnson is fully capable of making a great sound with his guitar, he studies a lot of chords, when he got bored with the ones he knew, he had someone teach him how to play with a little european style. But this is more of an opinion than anything, because you probably enjoy heavier music than I do, so...of coarse anyone who plays an acoustic guitar is icky. Also, he's actually a decent lyricist, not the best, but definatly better than most.
You actually sounded intelligent until you said something OWNS something else, then you just sounded like you wanted to get wasted.
What am I supposed to know before I talk about it? Death metal? I don't understand, I think you meant to teach me something before you said that.
P.S. I'm not close-minded at all, I would actually listen to those bands if you sent me a link to one or two, I don't mind. Fag.

Whenever I say that I like them, someone says, "leik omg, i luv dat 1 song Swng lif3 awy...". My only solace is that is wasn't written by Tim. It was a good song when it first came out, but after ten times I just went back to good ol' State of the Union. I know this is long winded, but every song off that album but Swing has been my favorite song at some point.

Man I was so close to putting them on my list for the fact that Revolutions Per Minute is one of the best punk rock cds ever (Black Masks and Gasoline nnnnggghhh).
But then they released Siren Sounds which was a disappointment.
Then they released that new one which is just... well, I threw up a little just thinking about it.

magicjism: You put all four bands that every person who really needs to define themselves by being a metal head make a huge point about listening to- Rammstein, Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir, and Cradle of Filth. You made a sarcastic remark about encapsulating all of your musical interests in 20 bands, and then stated that your tastes were a "motley metal crew." You could have easily done a better job of showing your musical taste in 20 bands if you didn't need to prove that you were so into metal.
Everyone who put Plain White T's: they really don't have much musical depth.

To be fair, yellowcard aren't exactly emo, Lights and Sounds is a bit mediochre, but it has some good songs and besides, Ocean Avenue was always going to be tough to follow up.
I think yellowcard sounds emo, but their lyrics aren't all too melancholic.

I F***ING HATE Nine Inch Nails. They are just retards trying to get publicity because nobody really likes their music. I also hate As I Lay Dying because the sit there the entire song screaming senselessly and then go emo for a verse... WTF IS THAT?!
I also hate Dragonforce. They are poor excuses for Iron Maiden wannabes that play guitar really fast and rip off fairy tale songs to get fans, but it isn't real music.
I also hate emo music but, that is just because I hate emo people.
And for people flaming dimmu borgir I don't like any of there death metal songs (sensless screaming) only the black metal (glam rock covers and some songs without too much screaming)

AZG, there are some decent bands there. But Linkin Park never went emo..There was some songs but definatly not emo. Once Jefferey Star features in one of their songs then I'll consider calling them emo. And I hate emos too, but some of the music is good. But nirvana is on your list, and I consider them on my top 20 list of horrible bands.

I might have been over board calling them emo, but they definitely lost the originality that was on the first album. The only emo song I ever like was "dead" by MCR but that was only in Guitar Hero, I wouldn't listen to it just to listen to it. I'm surprised anyone would hate nirvana that much, but hey, not my decision.

Firstly, no. Swing Life Away isn't the main reason I like them. I did, however, first start liking them when Ready to Fall came out, which is just as bad. On the plus side, I do know more then those two songs by them.
Secondly, you probably don't even know half of the bands on my list, so how can you possibly judge them that way?

If they're "retards trying to get publicity because nobody really likes their music", how do you explain the 6 studio albums, 2 of which went to #1 on the billboard, and another 2 which were #2? All their albums went platinum, and The Downward Spiral went 5x platinum.
All these bands just want to make me punch babies. Really all these bands are Emo/Goth/Gay. Try listening to Real music, such as Metallica, In Flames, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22 ETC. Oh god, i didn't even get to the 'The' bands (of which there are 15 :pop:) But to sum up the best of those i'd say The: Dandy Warhols; Cribs; Knife; Horrors; Rakes. Oh, and Tokyo Police Club / White Rose Movement at last place.
To be honest, i'm not appalled by everyone else music tastes (no wait, Alrightdarling made me rupture a kidney.)

And you call Fall Out Boy a real band? They are just a group of boys who was taken away from a random mall and put together by a major record label to be the next Backstreet Boys.

Fall out boy have been around for years. Their first two albums are incredible pop punk, but their lable spotted that their bassist was a good looking emo kid (lul oxymoron) and played that angle. So I guess they sold out. But fuck, their first two albums still kick ass, and they still storm up the stage. And I never said the white stripes were incestuous with each other. White Stripes, on the other hand, well;
We started living in an old house
My ma gave birth and we were checking it out
It was a baby boy
So we bought him a toy
It was a ray gun
And it was 1981
We named him Baby
He had a toothache
He started crying
It sounded like an earthquake
It didnt last long
Because I stopped it
I grabbed a rag doll
And stuck some little pins in it
Now were a family
And were alright now
We got money and a little place
To fight now
We dont know you
And we dont owe you
But if you see us around
I got something else to show you
Now its easy when you dont know better
You think its sleazy?
Then put it in a short letter
We keep warm
But theres just something wrong when you
Just feel like youre the hardest little button
To button
I had opinions
That didnt matter
I had a brain
That felt like pancake batter
I got a backyard
With nothing in it
Except a stick
A dog
And a box with something in it
The hardest button to button(x7)
*background: The hardest button to button (x3)
What the fuck? It's like they chose the rhymes before the semantics! That song makes zero sense. None at all.
deirdre!
09-12-2007, 6:23 PM
what i get from that song is that it's a story about an only child who's mom then had another kid, and jealousy struck in. that's pretty much the gist of it to me, and i do understand what you mean about some of their lyrics. sometimes i listen to a song of theirs and i just go "wtf?" but they're still a good band, even if some of their lyrics are completely whacked, they more than likely have a meaning to jack himself.
and plus, people listen to screamo, and you can't even hear those lyrics.

Anyway, I noticed a lot of you have the very bands I've hated since I heard them on the radio.
AFI, MCR, Fall Out Boy, etc.
But you all have smaller shitty artists that are mostly copies of those shitty bands but not as popular so that you cans ay you don't listen to them.
Bright Eyes is SHIT.
I checked him out once and seriously couldn't get through a song.
My mom asked me to turn it off [[not so politely, either]] 'cause she didn't like it.
And my best friend gave me shit for having downloaded it in the first place.
I don't understand how you can listen to it and not want to kill yourself. Not because of his lyrics or 'beautiful' playing, but because he sucks so much ass.
Rly now.
EDIT:
14. Coldplay
15. Enya
16. Three Days Grace
I think Seth Rogen said it best:
You know how I know you're gay?

Daaamn. I don't even know how to put it.
But damn. Coldplay is like masturbating to images of the devil.

Let me see, these are the bands you left off of my list:
Cacophony
Brad Paisley
Racer X
Rolling Stones
Beatles
Rush
Stevie Ray Vaughan
I'll assume you left off the Beatles, Stones and Rush because you hate them, because I can't imagine not knowing who they were. The only band from this millennium on my list is Brad Paisley, I like his chicken pickin', and he's pretty mainstream country. Other than that I guess you have to like the blues or be a guitarist to know the others; Cacophony and Racer X are both 80's shred bands, and SRV of course a bluesman.
I actually cannot imagine he doesn't know who Stevie Ray Vaughan.
He's a wonderful musician and unless you're music illiterate then you should at least acknowledge his wonder.
Derelict, I'm afraid you have a case of I-Listen-To-Shitty-Bands-And-Don't-Know-It.
Although there are a few good bands on your list.
You should open up your ears, ya know.
Try out some bands from a different genre.

We're only allowed to list 20 of our favorite bands. I listed about one sixteenth of my range of music genres. Rock just happens to contain my favorite bands.
Just because you recognize some of those bands as great, or whatever, does not mean that they are. Sure a lot of people have said they have wonderment, that just means those people are fans.
Never get a jazz critic to go to a metal concert. People have different tastes. My ears are well open.
I really should have phrased my post better, though, I'll give you that. I left off bands I don't know or don't like. Hate was a bad word to use in hindsight.
_____________
One thing I love about metal heads, is that according to them no one gets why their bands are so great. We're all idiots.
Although I did have Amon Amarth, Vae Tertium and Opeth on my list before removing them for more immediate favorites.

Because you haven't heard of the music i listen to doesn't mean its 'fresh' or 'breakthrough', or that i think that.
I'll admit, most music i really like is quite unknown, but thats mainly because the radio and popular culture overkill all the other bands for me. I had to ban Radio 1 in my household, early this summer so that i wouldn't tear off my ears when i heard the 'Klaxons'.

I don't get why there so popular myself, but there certainly not shit. I'm guessing your not into there high-voices which is fine, but i like them ifor it, it offers something a bit different.
As for the 'Can't play' remark I think if they had no musical talent they wouldn't be as successful as they are. Musics not about stupid amounts of technicality or 3 minute guitar solo's (or at least the music i'm into isn't.)

No, music is about the producers behind them who tidy it all up, alter all the imperfections and then add parts to make it sound half decent. And then it's down to marketting and advertisement.
Really, in this day and age you don't need talent to be famous. Just the ability to side the big cock of corporate death down your throat and smile like a shiteater when the cameras point at you.
