"Go to latest post" Button does not work correctly.

I'm sure most of you have used this http://forums.explosm.net/images/x_buttons/lastpost.gif handy little button to go to the most recent post of a thread. Well 50% of the time it goes to the second to the last page instead of the most recent post. Is this a bug or is it really meant to do that?
