View Full Version : First Pork? Now Beef?

Im sure everyone knows about the huge Irish pork scare that dioxins comtaminated the feed that was being fed to the animals.
Dioxins are environmental contaminants that may be formed during combustion processes and may be present in industrial wastes.
( Which in some rare case causes cancers RARE being key) Apperently the levels of this dioxin found were in some cases were 200 times the legal limit!

The Irish government acts fast on this one within hours of this being announced theyve already devised a plan. 400 million pig meat industry is to literally stop. No products were to move from factorys, doesnt even matter if there contaminated or not nothing was to move.

So the second plan of action from the government was a mass recall off the following pork products in Ireland ( Myabe England Wales Scotland may have taken some precatuions too) . These are the products that atm you cant buy in Ireland. Bacon, rashers, pork sausages, sausage meat, gammon steaks, offal from pigs, salami, ham, sausage rolls, black pudding, white pudding, pork pate, pork pies, ready meals, pizzas and sandwiches with Irish pork/bacon as an ingredient ( That means no ham as a pizza topping!).
You can't even get a batter sausage in the chipper! Honest to God. The best bit is this is just a fucking precaution there telling us that even if we were to continue to eat pork products nothings going to happen but we just shouldnt risk it and destroy or return any pork products we have. Unless youve been exposed to this stuff over the past 20 years your certainly in no danger!

Ireland's chief veterinary officer Paddy Rogan said contaminated pork from the Republic may have reached up to 25 other countries. So now its the worlds problem too? And all that will probably have to be accounted for aswell.

So the EU says fair play to the irish government you acted swiftly and took the right precautions. Thats great and all but within three days of the government taking these measures 2000 people have been "Temporarily laid off," Now with fears of no compenstation or little amount alot of these jobs are in the balance theres another 6000 at risk of losing there jobs. The EU have basically said Ireland did well but hump ya's if were going to help you out now! Unless the pig farmers get there compenstation there wont be any hams in ireland this christmas! ( Theres a great thing to put on E-bay this Christmas!)

As if this little recession hit country couldnt fall any lower

Now there saying that beef is comtaminated too!?
Out of 11 herds that were tested, three tested above legislative limits for PCBs in beef. There still currently testing cattle herds but even if any were above the legal limit of dioxins they' wouldnt be taken off the market no way Irelands agriculture sector couldn't survive another blow like that!!

I'd say with how things are turning out Ireland have saved face but in doing so the government has caused alot of problems for people especially coming up to Christmas!
All that aside i dont think i can manage a Christmas without "Ham," :bangkill:

At least you've still got potatoes, right?

Zackariah

Yeah true, but if this beef thing gets serious we wont have any butter to melt on them sweet potatoes:indiff: Really this just gives Irish people more of a reason to drink this holiday with less food variety available, Theres gotta be more alcohol to counteract all this.

No kidding. I couldn't imagine going without ham or beef. At least I live in Alberta, lots of beef to go around.

I agree you should try turkey. We always have ham for Christmas but this year mom's making a turkey which is kinda ruining it :[
So you're not the only one having their Christmas meal thrown off..

Also you can buy that crap at some chippers/restaurants etc., most places have just sourced their produce from Holland or wherever instead of Ireland

I heard about it while sitting in my car scoffing a breakfast roll. I finished it anyway. It was good.

Edit:

Trust the chap from Ireland to be called Paddy.

What about turkey.

Hell, no. Turkey is dry and nasty as hell.

Ham is fucking gold. It's juicy, fatty, greasey. It's PERFECT for the holidays. and, hell, you can't beat the baked skin of a ham. It's sooo chewy and delicious.

You simply cannot beat ham, especially with turkey. Why do you think we get rid of the turkey on thanksgiving to make room for ham for the holidays!?

Really? I always assumed you'd be more concerned about my country's meat crisis (http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2008/08/26/f-meat-recall-timeline.html).

It's PETA I tells' ya!
No seriously, this is quite bad. Let's hope the issue is resolved quickly so the meat-eaters can get back to doing what they do best. Not eating meat isn't as hard as you might think, just try it for a bit. You may actually have to try it if the no-meat dilemma keeps up.

I seriously hadn't heard about this but thanks for bringing it to my attention because I care so much about Irish pork. I know this Sunday when I make my bacon & eggs for breakfast, I'll be thinking of you without your bacon. And on Christmas day when I'm watching my dad carve up the delicious ham, I'll be remember how lucky I am that no one knows what our farmers do and I doubt anyone tested the meat before it turned up on my table.

Update on the pork situation:
Load of bollox essentially. Not dangerous at all, glad I didn't throw out any of my bangers or rashers
See perfectly safe (http://www.independent.ie/health/latest-news/eu-food-watchdog-says-its-safe-to-eat-irish-pork-1570547.html)

Although I did go a few days without any "hang sangwitches"

Can't wait for the christmas ham now.

Find someone who will sell you their old pork. I mean the worst that could happen is you'll get cancer.

Is that so bad?

Is that so bad?

They found average consumers of pork and bacon have no cause for concern to their health.

The reassurance followed data supplied to the European body by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and confirms the original assessment of risk which nevertheless led to the removal of all pork and bacon products.

Nope not so bad at all. Would gladly have that pork if they sold it to me cheaper

The poisoned-pork in Ireland shenanigans has affected places like Burger King up here in Scotland, 'cause the bacon we get delivered is Irish, we can't sell it, just incase.

You wouldn't believe how many customers have complained and how many sales we've lost just because we can't sell our bacon.

If you won't eat a fucking beef burger, without pork, your just a fat bastard.

Nedser2000

The dioxins have been in the pork since before September so a good few people in Ireland have eaten tonnes of the stuff, me included and the fact is its not going to seriously damage your health unless you ate nothing but pork all day every day. If you do that you'll probably die of a heart attack before the cancer gets you, you fat fuck.

I thought the Irish only lived off of beer.

Thats a gross over generalisation JT and I take offence to it. No Irish person lives off beer.
Guinness and whiskey is much better
