View Full Version : Moderatin' and shit
I think threads in the GF and some threads in the media forums should be dumped or closed after a number of pages, like 4.
Usually by then the joke is dead or the topic is over, or it is one of those long and boring debate threads.
Or worse still, it is one of those fucking 'give your opinion' threads that reach 10 pages that nobody reads.
Oh and I might take this opportunity to say spame memes should be bannable and bootable, because nobody anywhere thinks 'so you're notafan' or 'REPORT IT AND DON'T REPLY' is funny at all.

You err when you assume the point of SPAME is to be funny and nor just blind repetition of shit that was funny once. And I also think censoring the opinions of people in the GF to a 'first come first served' system is silly. Threads should be given life based on their continued merit, not have a one size fits all restrictive formula attached to them. What you're advocating is effectively removing some of the prime characteristics that make an internet forum an internet forum.
Well pretty much my reasoning behind having threads cut short was: after a few pages people stop contributing.
If they continue to contribute it is only because it is a survey kind of thread asking them what they want for christmas or Weird Your Body Can Do or Delicious Food Combinations and nobody reads those threads anyway because nobody cares about opinions on such useless shit.
If anybody did want to know a delicious food combination, they'd read the first page or two, three tops. And I can't think why anybody would want to know weird things people can do with their bodies.

Well yeah, but those threads should arguably go into the G&S anyway. i don't think you should curtail threads which have the potential for discussion, as opposed to the ones which are clearly just the internet version of a bunch of children wildly yelling their crappy anecdotes over the top of one another without giving a shit about anything anyone else has to say while simultaneously assuming they're the single exception and some one will listen to them. Which is of course what the G&S is for. It's like the playpen of explosm.
I agree that threads which revolve around a gimmick can get tiresome after a couple pages.

See, this is what I think should happen to most of those 'Give your opinion threads', just move them to the G&S if they aren't terrible. Problem then being that they would shit up the G&S (even more), and since the only mod in there was permabanned months ago, I don't think that it would be a very good idea overall.
EDIT: Please don't make this into an annoying 'Mod Me!' thread.

Doesn't Tranny handle the modding though?
G+S is generally the shit hole of Explosm anyway, with the exception of the big games. (when they are well-run, that is)

Well, she does, but nobody really ever goes in there and approves anything, really. I mean, supermods take care of the usual bad posts, but things like not contributing and circlejerking get by alot.

Nevertheless they have a life cycle and come back around all fruitful again. I could never tire of is it semen? If I wasn't locked in this dingy basement by my Danish Godparents I'd actually be tempted to use it in the outside world.

Maybe you could, like, you know, just not read +10pages threads?

Most of those threads just end up as an excuse to post-boost.
Who actually cares about post boosting?
If you don't like the opinion threads then don't read them. But the gimmick/joke threads really should have a limit. Those can get extended and end up ruining the joke.

Well, I don't know about other people, but I want to get it so I don't have the Somewhat New title. That's probably why.
I think you people are over analyzing it. If it's a good thread it won't get dumped, if it's bad it will. No need to really restrict or define things beyond that.

You're kind of doing yourself a disservice by asking for that by the way.
Relax bro is that a threat?
I noticed that bad threads that get one post per day or so just cruise along and never get dumped nor read. Just trying to help you out, silly billies. :flamewar:

Why the hell would you want to mod G&S? It's where all the stupid people congregate.

Yes, but I'm sure it would scare off alot of them if people started to get banned. And I didn't say I necessarily wanted to mod it, I said that someone should be in there.

I think the solution is to really crack down on unfunny cunts who spend their time circle-jerking and petty feuds, but also all of the annoying posters who need to figure out the rythm of the forum.

You should have made a stupid "pretty cool guy" joke.
Also, in before "no Charlie, you can't be a mod"
Edit: I don't really see why old threads need to be dumped. Why bother the mods with that? If the thread is actually shit, it will disappear quickly enough, without the interference of a mod.
Edit 2: Just ignore this, I'm so drunk it's embarrassing and I don't know what the hell I'm talkling about.

This is a completely inaccurate statement. Random stupid people sign up all the time and bump threads from 6+ months ago...

So the thread should be locked, not dumped. An old thread does not equal a bad thread.
Yer, sometimes bumping an old thread is pretty good. Loads of threads that were made ages ago seem to have a lot of renewed interest after a few months. So it's kind of nice rather than having the forums go in a large cycle with people going "AHEM I MADE THIS THREAD *LINK*".

Really, we shouldn't have to close the threads after the threads die. We do all we can to try and force you guys to be consistently funny, but sometimes you just can't train a dead horse to gallop.

I disagree, when things like this (http://forums.explosm.net/showthread.php?p=953573) are going on, it makes me think that there should be more in force. Not that anyone reads the Lit forum, anyway.
There either needs to be Lit Mod or get rid of the Lit forum.
