View Full Version : New Year's Resolutions v.2009!
jewishjosh
12-30-2008, 6:33 PM
There's a thread from last year but I figured it would be cleaner to make a new one.
Has anyone made resolutions yet this year? What are they? Each year, do you actually follow through with them, or is it just a list of things you come up with off the top of your head 5 minutes before the ball drops so you can pretend to yourself that you're working on things you'd like to change? How successful were you with them last year?
Last year, among other things, I resolved to run more, which succeeded, and read more, which failed. I will be continuing both. My main focus for 2009 is to restore my time management skills, which I guess is a convenient catch-all resolution and may sound like a cop-out in lieu of coming up with something specific, but it sums up what I want to fix in my life right now. I don't mind, in fact I want to keep my resolutions simple this year. I never come up with anything new or life-changing for my resolutions, I just take whatever is on my mind and make it concrete at this arbitrary time of year out of habit. New Year's resolutions don't actually affect my resolve to accomplish my goals, for better or for worse, they just serve as an annual snapshot of my goals that I can look back on this time next year.

Normally mines just a quick list - but this year's different :)
I actually thought them out. Though generally their more like guidelines than actual commitments, something I should stick to, but it won't kill me to not follow.
Resolutions:
-MAINTAIN my grades and possibly improve
-Meet my honor deadlines
-Cut out sugar... (typical girl one)
-Stop being fogada (it's a brazilian term, almost like lazy but not as bad)
-Spend more time outdoors and less on the internet

I've decided to try a diet free of all refined sugar and never smoke another cigarette in my life. I am also going to call my friends to hang out more often.
I'm going to try to stop being a bitch, but I've been trying the same thing for the past five years.
I'm really making an effort this year though!

- Gain weight (I'm underweight... and seriously I just can't get heavier no matter how much I eat)
- Clear up as much weekly time as I can
- Read 2500 pages' worth of books
- Get a job
- Win 5 Wi-fi matches with Ness
Lose a bit of weight,
Cut down on being a dumbass,
Bring up my grades,
Try my best to stop forgetting,
and stop being an asshole.

I intend to gain weight, in muscle.

I try to keep my resolutions simple, they are easier to keep that way. This year, my resolution is to lose 12 pounds. Typical girly resolution, I know.
The only resolution that I've ever actually kept, and still do, is not ashing cigarettes in sink drains.
Do better in my classes(this is really more of a resolutions for this semester than for 2009). For the year, follow through on any travel plans I make.

I will never change.
1)Start inviting people to my place. I seriously have to start doing that, I feel selfish.
2)Tell my parents I drink, and that my friends smoke.
3)Take sing classes
4)Re-start Muay Thai classes
5)Improve a little bit on school (Im good actually, but I know I can be much better)
6)Spend like 10 hours less on the internet weekly.
7)Don't just get out of my house at night, also when the sun is up.
8)Be more polite. I am a good person, but I'm definately not polite.
9)Keep being a "people person"
10)Paint and decorate my room in a very artistic and abstract way.

1. Spend more time playing bass, through my amp especially.
2. Spend more time playing keyboard.
3. Continue going to bed and waking up at reasonable hours.
4. Continue working out daily.
5. Run more; increase aerobic fitness.
6. Do well in Uni, which I start next year.
7. Do more with my band.
That's really it. Mainly want to get fitter and have the band stand a chance of taking off. That'd be sa-weet.
Like your avatar?
Haha, yeah, hopefully. I was actually thinking about throwing glasses full of paint to the walls.
And for the ones who want to be more sociable, all you have to do is to pretend you like people you dont, be nice with them, even if you don't really know them. Then you can start choosing who you like most and they will end up being your friends.

1. Get my bass player to show up to practice.
2. Decide what the fuck I'm going to do with myself. (took a year off before uni, took a trip to Liverpool to see relatives, and then Japan, haven't done shit since.)
3. Possibly quit smoking, if I can be assed.
4. Find friends that aren't so into hallucinogenics. Seriously, it was cool for a while, but not anymore. They're not as "deep" as they think they are.
5. Walk 10 miles in every direction from our apartment, just for the experience. (almost done with this one)
1. Find a hobby.
2. Go outside more.
3. Find a way to manage my pet rabbit. (He keeps chewing up all my stuff and peeing everywhere)
4. Wake up before 2 on weekends
This is probably the first time I've made a list. That's bad.
1. Spend more time playing bass, through my amp especially.
Fuck me I forgot to add this.
1. Try harder in school
2. Learn guitar
3. Go outside more often.
4. Go to sleep before 3 on school nights
I usually forget about these a couple of days after New Years so it doesn't work out every year.

4. Stop being so passive-aggressive.
5. Eat healthy stuff.
6. Learn how to use Adobe After Effects.
7. Do something somewhat productive with my time.
My New Year's resolutions never work out so I'm probably going to ignore this list after a couple of weeks.
*Improve health.
*Improve discipline.
*Improve morale.
*Improve magical powers.
*Improve management of owned cartels in the tropics.
*Play basketball with Barack Obama.

Become fitter, happier, more productive,
comfortable,
not drinking too much,
regular exercise at the gym
(3 days a week),
getting along better with your associate employee contemporaries,
at ease,
eating well
(no more microwave dinners and saturated fats),
a patient better driver,
a safer car
(baby smiling in back seat),
sleeping well
(no bad dreams),
no paranoia,
careful to all animals
(never washing spiders down the plughole),
keep in contact with old friends
(enjoy a drink now and then),
will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in the wall),
favors for favors,
fond but not in love,
charity standing orders,
on Sundays ring road supermarket
(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants),
car wash
(also on Sundays),
no longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows
nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate,
nothing so childish - at a better pace,
slower and more calculated,
no chance of escape,
now self-employed,
concerned (but powerless),
an empowered and informed member of society
(pragmatism not idealism),
will not cry in public,
less chance of illness,
tires that grip in the wet
(shot of baby strapped in back seat),
a good memory,
still cries at a good film,
still kisses with saliva,
no longer empty and frantic like a cat tied to a stick,
that's driven into frozen winter shit
(the ability to laugh at weakness),
calm,
fitter,
healthier and more productive
a pig in a cage on antibiotics.

Anybody that is a real friend, you'll most likely see again. I figured I wouldn't see too many people from my high school but I still see all of my high school friends over breaks.
1) Swim and work out (more) regularly
2) Not fail any of my spring classes
3) Figure out what the hell internship I want to take this summer

I'm just going to concentrate a hell of a lot harder on my studies, seeing as the HSC actually means something.
Stop smoking, to all reading this who dont smoke or might be playing with the idea or "casual smokers" stop while you can. Those old farts who told me that once upon a time were right, but I didnt listen. Now i plain and simply cant stop (and I do want to). I dont even enjoy smoking anymore, I just smoke because I have to smoke. Not after tonight though (I hope).

My new years resolution (as stupid as it seems) is to no longer drink pop and drink more water. It seems easy, but I love pop, and its half the reason why I ever gain weight cause of all the damn sugar in it.
If I were to say I had a second one, it'd probably be to work out more. I have a gym membership I use once in a blue moon, and I honestly wanna get back into the swing of things. I also have an audition coming up for a cruise line(Royal Caribbean) in February that I've told myself I HAVE to get.

My new years resolutions from last year were kept until about August so I'm determined to try harder this year. I have quite a few though:

3-Pay attention in school and make Dean's List again.
4-Practice my guitar and piano more.

All you guys say "get accepted into college/ university". But here in NZ if you have a half decent year 13 (12th grade/ 7th form) then you're automatically accepted into all the but the most competitive courses, and most of them have an open first semester or first year (after which it is competitive entry to the professional programmes). Vet has a one semester trial, medicine has a whole year of health science first, shared with dentistry, physio, lab science, etc. I feel lucky, I dont have to fight to get in... Just pass.
