View Full Version : Very sad Bootlegs.

So I was outside near a dollar Store and I happened to peek through the display window. What I saw was to good to be true, I though, and I was right. What I saw was a clever little device known as the POP Station cleverly desguised as a PSP.http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1304/1391161814_9426467266.jpgFrom far away it looked like the real thing, but as i walked closer all excitedly to take a closer look, I was suddenly dissapointed when I saw that I was yet again let down with another bootleg.
And that's not all.
For a second time I feel for the conniving tricks of yet another bootleg when my eyes set on a "Nintendo DS," or should I say "Ne Double Games." http://selectroclash.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/image_00320.jpg
So despite having been let down twice by seeing my two most favorite consoles
as bootlegs, I further went on and investigated on what these two, shall we say, systems were truly capable of. It seems that the game cartridge was also the screen, so in order to change games, you'd have to remove the screen. The games were just the cheapest of Street Fighter and a lame Soccer game at what looked like played on a calculator.
So I'm just saying. What do you think about these bootlegs and the people who make them? Have you ever ran up on a bootleg before, mistaking it for the real thing? If so, please tell us.

Bootlegs always suck, unless you're the one selling them. Some people will do anything for money. It's like the people who sell rocks of baking soda claiming that it's crack.

They do this with movies too. I read an article where they showed Cloverfield, then the cover of a different movie, almost exactly the same. Same thing with 300 and shit.

Yeah, I also remember buying a bootlegged DVD from some garage sale. The quality was shit and it was off frame. You can hear the people in the background talking and stuff. That's why it's best to just make sure you're buying the real deal and not to get ripped off.

Shitty quality movies with similar names like Transmorphers instead of Tranformers.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm pretty sure half the reason people pirate movies and buy/sell them cheap is because they're getting ripped off in the first place. Fuck paying $60 for a DVD when you can pay $10-20.

Bootlegging here is quite interesting. We have guys with backpacks filled with DVDs of new releases, classics, and trilogies, also music and stuff, running around town. In the more rural areas they go into the restaurants and offer you the CDs. It's actually not that bad, the movies are the ones you can download off the torrent sites, and if it's a new release you can't expect full quality. They cost about $1.50 and if you wanna be cheap with movies it's either that or download it yourself, which takes a while.
Also, I once saw a console called "PolyStation" and it came with some ripoff Sega games.

I used to regularly attend a Car-Boot Sale/Market type thing every weekend and I noticed pirate movies and games being sold back in 2001 on VHS of all things. They later evolved into VCDs, then ultimately DVDs. But now it's become so easy to pirate whatever you want, their trade died, not because the police or government or whoever shut them down, but because all of their customers had figured out how to do it themselves. Why pay $5 for a Pirate DVD, when I can get it for Free!?
I recently changed the area I work in at my factory so I was working with a whole new bunch of guys. I'd guess they'd be around Late-40s, and at break time I was truely surprised how they we're discussing which is the best Torrent Site to use, and passing round Memory Sticks with the latest AC/DC album on it.

By the way, has anyone hear of the CyloDS? You can download NDS games to a Micro SD card and insert the SD card to the CycloDS cartrige and play them. So basically you can get any DS games for free. Well, you do have to pay for the CycloDS and the micro SD card, of course.

A long time ago, my mom got me what I'm guessing was a bootleg game system for Christmas. It looked like a Playstation controller, but the screen flipped out of the center so it was kind of like a DS with only the top screen and the controls outside of the screen. It had some simple games on it like Breakout, Pong, etc.

I spent hours playing it. I'm sure nowadays I would find things like it crappy, but it was one of my favourite things to do. I was so sad when I broke it.

thomas30113
01-04-2009, 11:08 AM
Yeah, lollercaust. I had something similar. My dad got my little brother a bootlegged video game console that came with like 1,000 games from the Super Nintendo and Nintendo. Most games were repeated so there were really only like 20 games in it. It was pretty nice for a bootlegged console.

These and the movies have always pissed me off. Making rip offs is fine, but as was said I feel sorry for the confused people. They make their money by trying to confuse customers. Imagine an older parent who already feels very separated from his child going to the store with a specific idea of what that kid wants, hopefully helping that issue, then getting confused by the advertising and ending up with the wrong thing. They're wrong again, and the situation is even worse.

Of course, that's a less likely example, but the basic idea of cashing in on people's negative experience is pretty bad.

As for the movies, those are called 'Mockbusters'. Generally they hit the shelves the day before the real ones in order to confuse people. Asylum makes most of the recognizable ones.

That actually happened to my cousin, he received a "PS2" for christmas because he had been bugging my aunt to get him one. Poor guy almost shat himself twice when he opened it, first because he thought it was a PS2 and second because he realised that it was a piece of shit knockoff. The really funny thing is he had to sit there and say thank you because he wasnt too sure if my aunt knew it was a fake or not. i would have given my left nut to be there ! xD

But, according to this article, apparently the quality is seriously improving, especially among hi-end consumer electronic goods. Apparently when the I-phone first came out, the Iclone was actually superiour in terms of software, bandwith, and even batterylife. Cloned products are gonna be stronger faster smarter better. cheaper.

Aren't these "clones" designed to fool the ignorant parents into buying them for their kids? What's the point of making them superior unless they're actually trying to compete with the proper brands?

They're trying to make a quick buck, not specifically to rip you off. I don't think they're sitting there thinking of the lamest product to ship, or even the cheapest one. Just the one most likely to generate the quickest profit.

And in someplaces, the available materials and work force are, in fact, superior. True story, read about it in this article I mentioned. About two years ago, Ipod recalled a ton of their 30gb Ipods because they were, in fact bootlegs. How did Apple know?

Because the clones' firmware performed differently. It performed better.

Que consola si no te iba a ofrecer: excelencia, entusiasmo, disfrute y hospitalidad en un mismo pack, y no, no pienses que me invento las características de la maquina, lee la caja y veras." I can understand a few parents/grandparents finding and buying this shit because its "a bargain" and so much cheaper than Toys R Us but surely they cant make that much money off accidental purchases? Or is this world so full of idiots that people willingly buy these? The only way I would ever buy a PX 3600 is as a fucking joke gift to piss somebody off. Everyone knows that old people are mentally challenged when it comes to technology. If it looks the same/similar, has a name that looks the same/similar and has a pleasant looking price tag, old people automatically assume it's the right thing or that their kid/kids wouldn't know the difference. i'm sure most young kids wouldn't even know the difference. Over in China everything was a knock off brand like these. I don't actually think they have the real thing of anything. Even the movies, every single one was pirated. It's cool to get some things as knock off just because of how cheap they were from some pretty good quality fakes. I mean I bought a really nice fake rolex for like 15 bucks. But my friends bought this Opod (Ipod) and it literally fell apart when she got home.

The psychologist in my school(coolest guy ever) He had a Rolex that actually said "Bolex" and had a Jughead crown in the emblem. Also if you go to a flea market over here you can find anything that looks original. I bought some Lacoste Jeans for 20 bucks

I always find it very ironic that the people who paid for the real DVD are the ones that have to sit through that annoying un-skippable anit-piracy video.

It's funnier the pirated DVDs with that one them, makes me laugh every time.
What i also love are the pirated movies that come out of Asia with English subtitles. But the subtitles are so wrong it's funny.

Flip a coin, if heads, you get your opponents deck, if tails, flip until you get heads.

The best move ever.

Dude I only buy Pirated DVD's and everytime I see a movie I see the FBI thing saying that reproduction of the copy of the DVD will lead in X years in prison.

I printed some up for my brother a few days ago. I noticed his deck got bigger and bigger. And he started losing friends.
