Number 3 is in the final round, so instead of sitting around watching the other thread until it ends, I'm gonna take charge of Number 4.

I'm aiming at 8 people to sign up, but if more people want to join, I'll let you.

Start signing up!

1. savotage
2. Zebbs
3. Vortex
4. I Ate Your Pet
5. Lynley
6. Veeduck
7. MechanicalKarasu
8. ganondorf

I'm in.

Zebbs

I might be in depending on what the first task will be.
I didnt like the first one, but i wouldve wanted to do the second.

PyroOwned
09-05-2007, 11:32 AM
Ok, I'm thinking of the first task at the moment.

Zebbs
09-05-2007, 11:32 AM
PM it to me, so not to spoil it

Vortex
09-05-2007, 11:33 AM
Same as Zebbs. I'm in, I just hope we don't have to do a whole scene from something again.

Count me in! I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

PyroOwned
09-05-2007, 11:38 AM
I'm not gonna make you do a whole scene from a video game. Just a simple object with a certain colour in it somewhere.

Zebbs
09-05-2007, 11:39 AM
Oh cool, I'm in.

SODA
09-05-2007, 11:45 AM
Uh, pyroowen you can't tell them what it is before you start the competition. That gives them like a 2 day head start.

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
09-05-2007, 11:46 AM
I'm in but for crying out loud try and make the deadlines less stupid, 24 hours is seriously pushing it especially since almost every is back at school now. Try 2 days, maybe even 3 some times.

Vortex
09-05-2007, 11:50 AM
It just depends on the objective, IAYP.

Cool, PyroOwen. I think a whole scene in just 1 day was too much for some people :wail:

PyroOwned

I'm not stupid. I'm not revealing it until I get enough people. I'm starting the competition in 2 days time from 5pm English time.

Lynley

As long as the deadline is longer, and there aren't any scenes involved, I would be willing to join. There's no way I would be able to keep up with a 24 hour deadline with all the classes I'm taking. Forty-eight hours sounds more reasonable.

EDIT: As an added note of my skill (or lack thereof, depending on how critical you are), see my avatar. Done at 80x80 size, took me probably a grand total of 2 or 3 hours done over two days.

I'm out.

Please don't bow out cause of me. He might choose a task that I'm bad at. There are a lot of things I can't draw well.

PyroOwned
09-07-2007, 10:50 AM
Zebbs, don't pussy out because you've seen one person's Sprite. I'm keeping you in. :P

We need at least 3 more people to start.

Veeduck
09-07-2007, 11:41 AM
I'll give it a shot. I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

PyroOwned
09-07-2007, 1:32 PM
Nice to have you on board Veeduck. :douchecock: Two more and we can begin. I'm going now, I'll start it in a few hours.

Zebbs
09-07-2007, 1:35 PM
Ok then, I'll give it a go. Don't expect anything special.

PyroOwned
09-07-2007, 5:50 PM
Ok, the first challenge is up. These challenges are gonna be longer seeing as we all have school now and shit. :argh: So, here we go:

I want you six to create a video-game character. Be creative, but don't go too far.
Then, make a basic enemy, like Mario vs Goombas, but not that easy. I want the colour yellow in it, I don't care what tone.

If anyone wants to suddenly join, feel free, but take the chance while you can.

You have 48 hours, go!

Meh, just for fun (I know I'm going to hell for this):

It's Juan the Mexican plumber, and the Koopa border patrol! Run Juan, run!

Lynley

Gah, damn you. Drunk and full of delicious Thai food and late at night, and then I find out you post the contest... Size limits, please?

This Juan looks familiar and his mustache seems awfully Italian.

Also, totally lame of you to start the contest on a Friday night and then ditch us. I was planning to do this tonight if you replied with the size limits, but if I don't have any size limits, I can't start cause then I might draw something too big. *shakes her fist*

Kry0gen

I'm in.

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
09-08-2007, 5:59 AM
Well Lynley i'd guess a size of about 100 x 100 would be a good size to have as the maxiumum, seen as most game sprites are small.

PyroOwned
09-08-2007, 7:53 AM
I don't care about size limits. MK, that was good, and sure you can join in Kry0gen.

MK, are you joining or just posting that? I would be good seeing as then we'd have eight.

Mr. Crow
09-08-2007, 8:45 AM
Sure, why not.

Lynley
09-08-2007, 1:40 PM
Meh. Flamebuddy and Waterbuddy. Flamebuddy is the hero, who has the ability to become a larger flame to evaporate Waterbuddy.

http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/3965/flamebuddyfinishedlb5.png http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/9378/waterbuddyfinishedmi5.png

...That shading took forever, by the way. It's all smooth and stuff, and that takes a while to do in Paint. I also had a hard time thinking of an idea for this that wasn't already used a bunch.

Veeduck
09-08-2007, 2:26 PM
Mine is taking forever. I didn't expect the design to be as complicated to shade as it turned out to be. :/

ganondorf
09-08-2007, 4:04 PM
can i still join???

PyroOwned
09-08-2007, 4:15 PM
Yep, deadline's until tomorrow late afternoon.

Veeduck
09-08-2007, 5:43 PM
Okay, done finally. I've found that working on a smaller scale is easier than a larger. I used a photo reference for the character's shading, to make sure it didn't turn out totally wonky. And I'm pretty happy with the results.

Character: Lookout at Fortress Greenvyle.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/battywolf/gamechar.gif

Enemy: (From a different game) Moth Tyson.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/battywolf/enemy.gif

I hope they didn't have to be from the same game.

Good (Guy in armour plating) - Bad (EVIL MUSHROOM-THING!)

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w216/v0rtexx/spritecontest4vx1.pnghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w216/v0rtexx/spritecontest4vx2.png

I put them against those colours so they stood out abit better. Both turned out pretty bad, but took far too long so I gave up on them. Might touch-up abit before the deadline.

7 hours left people, the ones I've seen so far are really good.

ganondorf

EDIT
and done:clint:
I rushed them a bit becouse of the time limit
but i think they look decent enough.

Good Character-

Sort of a mix of Mega Man and Metroid Prime.

Bad Guy-

Little flaming eyeballs, these are just meant to be basic enemies that float around everywhere.

I clearly did not put as much effort into mine as everyone else. You all did very well.

PyroOwned
09-09-2007, 1:17 PM
Ok, winners of round one are: Veeduck, IAYP, ganondorf and Vortex. Sorry MK and Lynley, they were still really good.

Round 2:
Draw a sprite!
Yes, I mean literally, the fairy kind: http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q136/pyro-gyro/images.jpg
Max area of 200x200px.
Here's the twist: it's got to have a background. Like a swamp or something. So don't make it too big. :P

Vortex
09-09-2007, 1:26 PM
Good pick. Looking forward to this one. Time limit is 48 hours again? Or less this time?

EDIT

There's a bit of sprite breastage happenin' in mine, so i'll link it rather than img it, just incase its too NSFW for anyone.

Holy shit, you guys are all awesome at this. It was tough, but the two winners of the semi-finals are Vortex and Veeduck.

So, now for the final challenge!

If you watch Dr. Who this will help. I want you to design a Tardis (http://www.otherlandtoys.co.uk/images/tardis800.jpg), the outside and the inside (http://www.drwho-online.co.uk/pp-co-console-1.jpg).
Make it bigger than 75x75px.

Things that will impress:

-Neon lighting
-Technical Shit.

Have fun, you have 72 hours. If you post before I don't mind.

Vortex
09-11-2007, 2:22 PM
Hoorayyyy! Too bad, Kry0gen and IAYP. I thought your sprites were fantabulous, anyway!

I don't watch Doctor Who, so I can only hope Veeduck doesn't too, so i'm not at a big disadvantage! I guess google will have to be my friend, for this one. (What the hell is that picture you gave for the inside? I don't understand.)

Good luck have fun, Veeduck! :hf:

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
09-11-2007, 2:26 PM
The tardis is a normal looking object (in doctor who its a phone box, i suppose you have to make it something normal like a car or something for the competition) which is bigger inside than outside, it's also a time travelling spaceship, so you should have a normal object you'd expect to see anywhere (so you can land anywhere and it won't look overly suspicous) and the inside should be like a spaceship interior.

Veeduck
09-11-2007, 2:27 PM
Aha, I have seen maybe two episodes of Dr. Who, so we're in pretty much the same boat. :P

Good luck to you, too, Vortex!

Vortex
09-11-2007, 2:27 PM
Ahh, I see. Just the picture PyroOwen posted for the interior kinda threw me. It just looks like a small toy model of.. something strange? I'll manage, i'm sure. Thanks for the info though, IAYP.

Also, I got no time to start it just yet, so you can have a bit of a head start again, you hoe! I'll probably leave this till last minute again, like I did with the sprite, hah. I was scared I was going to miss the deadline! Thankfully, I didn't!

PyroOwned
09-11-2007, 2:34 PM
IAYP said it all. Just draw an ordinary object, then draw the inside as a massive machine transport shippy thing.

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
09-11-2007, 2:34 PM
No problem, and if you're still in wikipedia it. There are loads of DR. Who fans so the article will probably tell you everything you'd ever need to know about it, and a load more stuff you'd never need to.

Veeduck
09-11-2007, 2:44 PM
I was pretty scared I was going to miss the deadline too, hence the rushing. I have no concept of time and had no idea how many hours I had missed with my internet being down and classes.

Hmm, I think I have an okay idea for this.

P0K3M0N_MA5T3R
09-11-2007, 3:39 PM
Easiest way to figure out how long left is to look at pyros post and see when it said it was posted, if it says 1 day ago, you better get hurrying

Vortex
09-11-2007, 3:59 PM
Yeah, I know that much, but the posts should be timestamped or something. That could have meant we had 24 hours left or like, 24 minutes. USELESS! :frown:

Veeduck
09-11-2007, 4:55 PM
Haha, yeah, I read that it was a day ago, but I wasn't sure how many hours exactly that left me.

I finished part one of the newest one. I don't know how I'm going to approch the second part though. :/

PyroOwned
09-13-2007, 1:44 PM
Another day left, I wanna see some good quality sprites you two. :P

PyroOwned
09-15-2007, 4:01 AM
Ok, the sprites are well over due now. Where is everyone?

Vortex
09-15-2007, 6:20 PM
Argh! In all honesty, I got a new job the beginning of this week, and i've been forced to do a lot of overtime already. I've been on the computer a total of about 10minutes in the last few days. So, unfortunately, i'll have to forfeit, assuming Veeduck actually had time for anything either. I hate it when people sign up for a competition then don't follow through, but I didn't foresee this happening :frown:

Sorry, Pyro. :frown:

Veeduck
09-16-2007, 12:07 AM
Ugh, I had a pretty important "family issue" to deal with, and have been home for like, four days without the internet.

I'm still at home, but I managed to set up a computer for my mom and so was going to apologize, so. Yeah, sorry about this. Heh.

Hats of!
09-16-2007, 1:12 AM
I think you should stop calling these threads for Sprite Contest, this is Paint Art.

PyroOwned
09-16-2007, 6:18 AM
Ok, we'll call a draw between the two of you, it was hard deciding between the two of you via your last sprites. I think we should stop Sprite Contests until the next holiday (Christmas), because no-one has time anymore. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted. If you want, post a freestyle sprite and I'll judge those two. Don't worry if you're satisfied with a draw though.

Veeduck

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/battywolf/outside.png

Well, this is part one from the last round. I just couldn't finish part two. It's supposed to be an open war memorial, because I've found that no matter what city I've travelled to, there's always been a memorial of some sort.

PyroOwned
09-18-2007, 10:15 AM
Ok, seeing as you were the frist to post even after the contest finished due a draw, I guess you half-win by default. :P

Veeduck
09-18-2007, 12:21 PM
I just wanted to show that I was working on it, but circumstances arose. :P

Hats of!
09-20-2007, 2:12 PM
In christmas if there are new spritecontest, make sure it's sprites. I think these contribution took it to far.
